Good, but not great
If you are a newbie to both the sims and the sims superstar, I would recomend this book to you! But, I was not impressed. The first 60% of the book was donated to the original sims, and out of the remaining 40%, another 20% was used up with mind-boggling charts and unimportant information. This includes a list of EVERY item on the sims and a picture; you simply didn't need it. Every Sims book they have published has been the same way. If someone had taken the time to do it correctly, they would have a single book for the sims and six different expansion pack book. However, there are some useful facts that make this worth your while. So, the choice is yours. Is it worth it to purchase this book for only 30% of it being truly useful? Or does the 70% useless section force you to stop and not to buy? Since the sims superstar is new to everyone, it may be worth it to buy. But, then again, almost everything in this book could be figured out if you just take the extra time. I finished reading this book in about 45 minutes, by skipping over the unimportant sections. But now, the choice is yours.

Great game
If you like the other sims games you will love this one! I read some of the others and they say it runs slow and etc. It may be cuz you don't have enough room on your computer. It runs fast and just right on my computer. Yes it is a lot of work to get the people to become a star but it is worth it. Even if you don't want to be a star there is so much new things. Like you can swim with fish, new doors, floors, walls, even roofs and much more. Its so cool to see people singing. It's also fun just to go down there and talk to people and even see stars from today! So if your into the sims this is a much have

School Spirits: College Ghost Stories of the East & Midwest

A Mild Thrill
There's much to like about Mark Marimen's collection of college ghost stories. He presents these traditional stories (no New Age channeling or Satan-Comes-A'Calling claptrap) in a straightforward, fairly objective fashion. One of the blurbs on the rear cover commends the book for NOT being "your campground variety of ghosts stories," but that's basically what this book is...and that's not a bad thing. Where better to sponsor a shiver than around the campfire!

The author does a decent job overcoming the basic weakness of the anthology format. These ghosts have nothing in common except that they appear on college campuses, and these colleges don't have much in common either; obviously Marimen used the two geographical regions simply to garner enough stories for a book. Plus, college students are an excitable bunch on the whole; one can never quite take them seriously in matters of the supernatural. That's why the West Point story was so effective: the witnesses were students, yes, but students being trained to not give in to panic or whimsy.

Somewhat distracting are the several typos (not the author's fault, probably) and the occasional patches of verbosity. For example, "The legends are further enriched by the addition of a rumor that still another young woman is said to have..." (page 3) should be trimmed to simply "Another young woman is rumored to have..." Also, the rather lengthy historical lead-in to the Gettysburg College chapter is unnecessary: most people either know their history or don't much care. Jeb Stuart wouldn't really affect the Kline Hall theater goings-on, would he?

Still, I like a good ghost story as much as the next impressionable middle-aged school teacher. Keep up the good work, Mark.

Seismosaurus
An excellent book, but the material is a little outdated, considering seismosaurus is no longer considered the longest dinosaur. All in all very well written and compiled, with beautiful paintings by Mark Hallett, dinosaur artist extrodinaire. Well done.

A bit outdated, but a good book
This is the history of the Sergeants Major of the Army, as of the 9th SMA, Richard Kidd. It was written by a team at the U.S. Army Center of Military History in 1995 and has been "copied" by the current publisher. A new, updated version of this book is scheduled to be released next year, so wait for it instead.

Navigating SIMGolf
A good primer to get you started and knowing some little tricks in designing your golf course and how to maximise your revenue. The section on design is interesting too. A good complement to the web site.

For the discriminating reader
Why did I assign only three stars to this wonderful book? Waymack and Harris need to produce another edition--I'm dying to know what they think of the more recent Balvenie. This edition's entertaining and informative discussions of major single malts and the distilleries producing them whet my desire to know what has improved in the last eight years. The section on how to hold a whisky tasting still stands, and the recipes are great! Read it so that you too can wait with bated breath for a revision.

A good book for understanding Hesse
Soul of Age contains a good selection of Hesse's letters that provide a very usefull introduction to Hesse. The translations are very good, and the introduction is informative and intresting. Some letters between Jung and Hesse are missing, but you can find them in Michael Serrano's book.

Sowing the Gospel: Mark's World in Literary Historical Perspective
Published in Hardcover by Fortress Press (November, 1989)
Author: Mary Ann Tolbert

Insightful, but incomplete.
The author approaches her interpretation of the gospel from one basic line of analysis - the four types of "earth" of the "sower". Even so, the approach is deeply insightful in depicting the theme of discipleship and response to Mark's message. Although promising early in the book to provide an allegorical interpretation of the text, I was disappointed that the allegorical meanings of the "unclean spirits" and "demons" of the early episodes in the story were neither recognized nor explained. Thus, the social context of the implied audience was left virtually untouched in an otherwise thorough treatment of the characters of the narrative. Because the interpretation is based on understanding individual and group characters and not on the social context in which they lived, the overall interpretation left this reader unsatisfied. Not the most highly recommended or complete treatment among the contemporary texts on Mark, but nonetheless worthy of consideration for understanding the theme of discipleship in greater depth than many texts offer.

Good basics, flawed details
For very general understanding of Interior Design and as a study guide the NCIDQ exam this book is quite good. Be aware that as a tool for real world design solutions, it is lacking. The authors design philosophy and methodology are terrific, but the design solutions have problems. (example: A door entering into a two stall toilet room swings into the sink area. Anyone standing at the sink will be hit by the door when another person enters the room.) Although, if the reader has enough understanding of real world design conflicts and can spot the design errors in this book's illustrations, then the reader has gained the skill necessary to provide good workable design solutions. Many of the illustrtions do not comply with ADA guidlines, which is NOT necessary for passing the NCIDQ, but essential for the workplace. North Carolina, the state where I practice, has codified the ADA guidelines. Use this book as a study guide for NCIDQ. Be aware of design flaws. Use it at the office for philosophy and methodlogy only. If you are studying for NCIDQ, good luck, keep it simple, and parrot back everything that is required in your design solution. Do your finished design in black ink and write notes for everything.

Speaking Up: What to Say to Your Boss and Everyone Else Who Gets on Your Case

Good for a Read
The book was not absolutely ingenius, nor the ideas presented here are of any ground-breaking value. Yet, the author delivers a set of pre-formatted rhetorics that can help you "Speak Up" and assert yourself.

Bottom line, don't be a wuss; be strong; don't let anybody else put you down... These are the ideas. Now in order to put these ideas into practice and won't have you come off as a "mean person" - that takes art. Ruskin can be a help in that art - but the art itself is a personal goal for any of you that may be seeking to refine - which I might add, it would take years.

So, all in all, this book won't change your life, but it can help along. It is still you in the end that determines where your life leads, which is why these books are called "self-help." So, help yourself to a copy if it makes you feel better, but either way, Help Yourself in your own personal goals.
