Mark Monroe's real experiences.
Mr. Monroe does an excellent job of explaining how the Native Americans live in Nebraska. His examples are true to life, and are believable. I was also suprised that I know some of the people that Mr. Monroe wrote about, and the troubles that they have had in Alliance, Nebraska, because they were Lakota.

Excellent for the junior doctor or house officer
This book comprises a fast and efficient retrieval system of facts, epidemiology, diagnoses, treatment, and lab assessment for a broad range of infectious diseases and paristology. The organization of the chapters and the conciseness of the subject material is outstanding. It proves to be a handy quick reference book small enough to carry all the time.

Brutally honest, politically incorrect travel adventure
It took me all summer to read this novel, not only because of the dense descriptive writing and banal Biblical references during Twain's travels in the Middle East, but also because of the repeated claims of racial and ethnic superiority by the author. Twain refers to everyone, from the Portuguese to Arabs and even some Italians as savages. The modern reader should be 'understanding', recognizing that this is written in a time when political correctness and the reasons behind it were unheard of, but I couldn't help twinging over Twain's predjudices. Nevertheless, I rarely start a book without finishing, so I kept on, motivated by laugh-out-loud scenarios Twain vividly describes, bold cynicism, and what turns out to be, quite simply, a really good story. It's easy to see why this is not included on most school reading lists, but it has some entertainment value nonetheless. Plus, Twain's writing is superb, like nothing you'll find on today's bestseller lists.

A fantastic reference book to DOS 6.22!!
This book, in my humble opinion, is perhaps the best guide out there for anyone who wishes (or needs) to learn more about DOS version 6.2 (and 6.22). Although not geared towards the first-time user, the book nonetheless does not swamp the reader with much technical jargon, as do many others of this type. Well done!!

Intellectual Property in the New Technological Age
This book is an excellent text dealing with multiple aspects of American intellectual property law. As a Canadian law student I found its approach of using first principles to introduce readers to the basics of intellectual property law very useful. From the first principles of copywright, trademark and patent law the book proceeds to give an insightful exposition of the developments of each of these areas of law in response to recent developments in the sciences. While some attention is paid to biotechnology in the patent section of the book, most of the work focusses on the impact of developments in intellectual property law as a result of information technology. Not only is this book timely but it also gives a very in depth analysis of these timely issues that I have not come across in other texts on the subject. I have just completed my LL.B at an excellent Canadian Law school. I specialised almost entirely in intellectual property law and found this to be my favourite text. Not just amongst my IP courses but amongst all the courses that it was my pleasure to take. If you are interested in IP and you want an understanding of it based Utilitarian first principles this book is an excellent resourse.

I think that a computer based model is nessecary for that kind of book. Because, interactive must be "computer based"

An inventive curiosity, not a genre-sf piece
These three novels are set in a sprawling vertical conurbation named T-City, developed from Tyneside in the the North of England (to a local this can only seem ironic!). They are mainly a satire on the sixties, featuring social innovations like 'flicker knickers' and an ubiquitous building material called Stahlex. But the satire is indirect, and the novels are complicated slices through the lives of the inhabitants' sometimes mundance existences. Interesting and rather good, I wish he had written more.

An Informative Introduction to International Development
I found International Development clearly written and informative. The vocabulary used is not highly technical making the book easy to understand, even for those with only an elementary background in development.

International Development introduces the reader to the different facets of development, including both the theoretical and the practical aspects, but treats no subject in great depth. Therefore, because the book is only an introduction to the topic of development, further reading must be done for a through understanding of the topic.

The text addresses the political as well as cultural, social and economic aspects of the development process. The majority of the information is explained with no evident bias, though the political preference of the authors is made clear as they advocate democratic, capitalist methods of development and condemn Communist practices in some sections.

Internet Dreams: Archetypes, Myths, and Metaphors

An intriguing way of predicting the Internet's future
The thesis of this fascinating book is that there is no longer any technological determinism left for the Internet because we have the ability to make the technology do whatever we want it to do. The only constraint upon its development lies in the limits of our imaginations, so what the Internet will become depends upon how we conceptualize or even 'dream' about the Internet. "These dreams tap into metaphors we all use to understand our life experiences and convey deep and important messages about where we are going and what we are becoming" (p.390). His name is not mentioned but it is obvious that the influence of McLuhan lies over this book. Stefik says there are four basic metaphors which have so far shaped our thinking about the Net: the digital library (publishing and the community memory); the electronic mail metaphor (as a communication medium); the electronic marketplace (selling goods and services), and the digital world (the I-way as a gateway to experience). The selected readings have a huge historical and cultural depth which makes the book useful as an anthology alone. Stefik introduces each piece to place it in context, then after the extract he gives his own reflections. This book has some similarities to 'Information and communication technologies: vision and realities', edited by William H. Dutton (OUP, 1996) but Stefik puts more emphasis on the 'dreaming' of the future than Dutton, and also he has done more to classify the themes. There are also echoes of Ken Auletta's new book "The highwaymen: warriors of the information superhighway" (Random House, 1997) which makes it plain that even the heads of major computer companies don't know where we're heading. Not a book for the keyboard junkies who want to know what can be done on the Internet right now, nor is it easy reading for armchair philosophers. In fact it's hard to say who will read it, despite its intriguing content. Faculty and grad students concerned with technology and social change really must read it, and it will be a very useful book for those whose thinking takes the longer view.

good introductory book
this book is a good starting point for a student who wants to know the basics of mobility. Besides it gives you a good introduction to the cdpd technology. However, this book only presents the basics of this subject. I've started reading this book knowing nothing about network mobility, and now I'm very interested in expanding my knowledge in this subject
