Love & Friendship - not quite as good as rest of the series
The Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul series is a wonderful series written by teens for teens and this book is a spin-off, if you like, of that very successful, popular series.

However, I found the stories and range of topics to be not quite as good as those found in the other teenage Chicken Soup books. The Friendship section had some beautiful stories in it as is to be expected from this series but I found some of the stores in other sections such as Growing Up to be cliched and boring. While I found it hard to put the other books down, this one was quite easy to put away.

If you are looking for a really good Chicken Soup book I would recommend Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul II or even the first or third books rather than this one. Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul - Love & Friendship lacks the same edge and originality as the other books.

Pure excellence
This is an excellent book. It is so informative of real teenage problems on love and friendship. It has helped me to understand that I am not the only girl who has to deal with bad relationships between friends and boyfriends. And you can tell this is a good book because I love to shop and when I went to the mall I baught a book (this book) which I NEVER do, but I just wanted it that bad. This truly is a great book and every parent who has a teenage daughter just has to buy it!

Chicken Soup is the best!
This book was awesome. I love reading stories written by teens, especially true stories. I would definately recommend this book to anyone who loves to read and is just looking for a good book, or even someone who dislikes reading and just wants to read the romance stories. From romance to helping people, CHICKEN SOUP FOR THE TEENAGE SOUL ON LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP IS THE BEST!

Rock and Roll Zen Masters Save the World!
Bad Wisdom is the hilarious account of the two author's (one of whom is better known to discriminating connoisseurs of Heavy Metal as Zodiac Mindwarp) quest to prevent the world's destruction by nefarious forces of evil and chaos (namely Madonna and her Homoschutzstaffel, feared masters of the deadly martial art of Vogueing). The two self-proclaimed Zen masters must face hideous peril from within and without, coming cheerfully to terms with their own misogyny and homophobia as well as surmounting numerous obstacles in their pursuit of the mystic Lost Chord, an arcane harmony necessary to thwart Madonna's diabolical plot. Mark Manning's canny but brutal heavy-metal prose provides a despicably funny counterpoint to Bill Drummond's more introspective- and subtle- recounting of the events of the story. While this book is sure to be offensive many, there are those who will find that to be one of its virtues. Bad Wisdom has the makings of an underground classic in the mold of the Illuminatus Trilogy: I highly recommend it!

brilliant delusions
If you are a fan of the work of Zodiac Mindwarp or The KLF or even if you just liked American Psycho you should check this out. Carrying a picture of Elvis, a doctor's bag and some paper to record a journey prompted by the hope of restoring peace to the world, Bill and Mark and Gimpo set out and record their adventure. Psychotic and brilliant.

An Endless Fountain Of Possibility
Well, what can one expect from Bill Drummond AND Mark Manning together?? It's been a few years since I've read this but I've just gone through it again and it saddens me to see this book is out of print. The insights, perversions, monstronsities and beauty these two can dream up is amongst the most creative and hilarious I've ever read. This book is hailed as a quest to save the world but in all honesty it's just an excuse to use up some record company money to take a trip into the arctic (only these two would choose that part of the world to vacation in). This books real focal point is the search for the ever-illusive lost chord. Finding it, they reckon, will cause massive world peace and loving vibes the world over. What makes this book gorgeous is the pure honesty that pours over every soul drenched page. Drummond and Manning play dueling authors and take turns writing about the same experiences (Drummond is always very inward-looking and pretentious while Manning is downright disgusting and hilarious). They make a great and horrible team and the editorial balance is perfect all the way through. The real gem is Manning's writing though. He can go from being the most disturbed and sickening individual on the planet (his preoccupation with flatulence and beheadings is just as funny as it is horrific) to weaving the most gorgeous and vivid dreamscapes that have ever been imagined. And that's what makes the book so damn readable: Pure imagination mixed with true feeling. Can't wait for their upcoming book about riding down the Congo River!

Not Pretty Good for USMLE
Texts are not easily to follow. Diagrams and help notes scatters around pages which make readers confused. If you are preparing for Step 1, I recommend you study Lippincott Biochemistry, Board Review Series.

This is the best biochemistry book (easy and comprehensive)
I love this book on biochemistry simply because it was the easiest to read, with diagrams and pictures even dumb people like me can read (gg). I also found that it is very comprehensive also. Some of the other titles I've read on the subject (Lippincott, Harper's) did not go into the detail of this one. Another positive note is that this is a clinical book also; giving you case studies in each chapter to test your knowledge. I can't say enough about this book and even referred it to one of my friends. Although not required in Chiropractic College (Lippincott was), it should have been the standard.

Extremely useful biochemistry text. Yes, USEFUL!!
This book shows how biochemistry courses can be made interesting and pertinent. I love the clinical symptoms and diagnoses boxes. Various biochemical processes are made relevant by linking them to symptoms and diagnoses. Remember in college when biochemistry was essentially a memorization exercise? Not so here. I am not a doctor or med student but I do have 24 hours of bio and take it from me this is a unique biochemistry text. The layout and design of the contents is very good. Well worth the price and deserving of shelf space in your library.

The Bible for Busy People: The Old Testament

Wonderful book
Mark Berrier does a fantastic job of relaying major points of the Old Testament books. Working through each book, the plot is given along with descriptions of important characters and places. Special attention is given to plot structure and character relevance. The vocabulary is easy to understand and I would never cram for a test.

A Very Easy Read!!!
Mark Berrier has a wonderful way of summarizing the Bible in a way that is incredibly easy to understand. He also puts everything in perspective in a way that would be impossible for the average person reading throught the scriptures on their own. A valuable collection for any library!!!

Excellent Perspective!
This book is an excellent resource for gaining a global understanding of the Old Testament. The author is concise, yet thorough. He has added another wonderful tool to the great western tool chest of greater biblical accessibility.

Good intro, lousy reference
This book is very helpful for somebody familiar with C++ and wanting to start using the STL. It is clear and complete if you're willing to read each chapter end to end. But if you're reasonably familiar with STL's concepts, or comfortable with abstract container classes in general, this book will frustrate you to no end.

The book could be very good if the "reference" section really was a reference, and not just a rehash of the description. Instead of just having lists of methods and descriptions of what they do, the reference is written in lengthy prose, and must be read sequentially in order to be understood. Rather than each entry standing on its own, method descriptions say "hardly any change from the similar method in the *blah* class." This makes looking up information extremely difficult.

It was great to get me on my feet. Now I'm really sick of it.

This is -- still -- the best book on STL
The book is kinda old and slighty out of synch with the latest achievements of the C++ standard-makers. And yet! it is the best tutorial book on STL there is: no hype, lotsa code, good explanations. I keep using it and I'm very happy. The only worthy addition to it I'd like to mention is the "Cow" book by Koenig. Not one from among the latest flood of the stl books is even close to the usefulness of Mark Nelson's book--one can only wish he issued an update.

The best of the early batch of STL introductions
Unlike some authors, Nelson doesn't oversell the STL or try to defend its most ill-advised features and peculiar terminology. He addresses the readers as respected colleagues with whom we wants to share some exciting information.

The 21 chapters are orgazized into three main parts:

I. Introducing the STL

II. The essentials: containers, iterators, algorithms, functions.

III. The public interface: reference information If you're a experienced C++ programmer, the first two parts are must reading. The third part is a bit too detailed and repetitive.

The index is comprehensive, and definitions are provided for important terms (exception: "algorithm complexity" and O(n) notation, concepts well known to Computer Science majors but not to every practicing programmer).

strange slice of life
Good news. Hunter S. Thompson has been reincarnated in this radical look at college life. He doesn't have as much talent in this life, but his wit is drier and much funnier. It is a journey to find yourself (and women and booze) in the liberating environment of university life. The book's stream of consciousness style misses here and then, but it has fine comedic timing, and is definately worth reading. Not at all for the squeamish.

tells it like it is
Well written and engaging throughout, College and the Art of Partying humorously reports on the perimeters of the college experience. While the writing is undisciplined and self-indulgent, and the book seems to follow its own literary rules, the reader regardless benefits immensely. Highly, recommended.

Rare find
College and the Art of Partying was a rare reading experience. This book is a book a lot of people won't like for a lot of reasons; for one thing it sacreligiously puts kicks before all else, and rejects everything that gets in the way of them. So the book in turn reject a good part of what makes our culture tick. It speaks to a small college audience who is searching for something far beyond what the others on their floor are looking for, and it doesn't give a red hoot about anyone else. I would enjoy tweaking some sections of it in creation of a more accessible read, but it would probably lose it's soul in the meantime. There are times you get the feeling that the author is just trying to shock people who are easily shocked, and they probably were the worst sections of the book, because the passages could seem contrived. But for all the outsiders out there in college read this book--READ this book. It's speaking to you.

From one who has had colon cancer
After being diagnosed with colon cancer, I started my research by reading books on the subject.

I found this book was well wriiten, but seem to focus more on explaining the disease for family or somebody wanting to provide support for a person with colon cancer. In this respect, it does a good job in explaining the disease and giving points to consider, i.e., the type of hospital, the way to reference doctors, etc.

The book did not fit what I was looking for. I wanted a more technical explanation about the disease and what to expect during the operation and post-operative period. I did not get that comfort level from this book.

Invaluable Reference
Within a week of my diagnosis of colon cancer, I had this book, along with "What to Do If You Get Colon Cancer" by Paul Miskovitz and Marian Betancourt, in hand. Together they provided critical information on the illness, on finding a surgeon and what questions to ask about treatment. While recovering from surgery, and now in the early stages of chemotherapy, I have kept these books by my side to guide me step-by-step. Information is presented clearly and compassionately, so that I know what might be expected as I progress through treatment. Without these guides, I would be muddling through instead of being able to take charge of my illness. They are invaluable!

very highly recommended for patient and spouse
I was recently diagnosed with colo-rectal cancer stage 3 and looked for a single specific reference. I thought this book was excellent. I am a medical doctor with a specific background in critically assessing medical evidence but learned of a lot of resources I had not been aware of, including cancer question list servers etc. I would buy it as early on in your treatment as possible -, things like choice of treatment center, surgeon, pre vs post surgery radiation are all things to try to become knowledgeable about as early on as possible. I think the tone of the book is exactly right, combining technical and lots of humane/quality of life advice (including how to talk with friends and younger family members) . My spouse who is a teacher but has no clinical background has also found the book excellent in answering her questions. I feel Lorraine Johnston has performed a real public service. Good luck to any patients and family, this book will definitely help you give quality survival its best chance!

The complete Beatles recording sessions : the official story of the Abbey Road years

This is a good book but too in depth for most.
Not every fan wants to sit everyday in the studio with the beatles, but if you did you would learn alot about recording techniques. This book helps to show that the beatles were'nt just creative but they got a lot of help from GEORGE MARTIN and the others at abby road studios. It is interesting to learn every exact sound and effect on the songs but does become a bit dry at times.

It may be Out of Print, but . . .
I bought this book a long time ago when it first came out. As a diehard Beatles fan, I think it is great!! It really goes into the little details of the Beatles in the recording studio and gives the reader something of an idea as to what it was like to be there. By the way, Amazon states this is out of print; however, my local Borders store has a lot of copies in their bargain books for a really cheap price . . .between $4.99 to $9.99 (I can't remember exactly) So check out the closeout sections of your local stores.

The Best Book On The Beatles' Recording Sessions
This book may be a bit dry for some but it is the best information source on the Beatles' music and recording processes, especially on the evolution of the tracks. Detailed session information, including performers, recording dates, and recording techniques (especially with regard to experimental pieces) are given as well as a generous helping of pictures (particularly the Sgt Pepper and Abbey Road photo shoots). It is a shame that this book is out of print at this time as this is the definitive book on the Beatles' music. If you are a Beatles fan and you are fortunate enough to find one of these books, buy it immediately.

Very Good!
I loved this book very much, and I was surprised how much information it gives you. I love Mark Cotta Vaz and I read his decription books. The book is exellent exept for one thing, it is not very detailed. It has the best pictures from the Star Wars Special Edition and it covers everything. I would definatly recommend this book.

Pretty Good
This book is a great starter book for the ameture Star Wars fan. It has great detailed pictures and gives a good amount of info of different things that exist in the Star Wars universe. If you want a lot on info (instead of pictures) get The Guide to the Star Wars Universe. I'd rate it 9.9 it's not perfect but it's about as close as you can get! Still if you want picture, get this book.

I agree with JakeH
I very much agree with JakeH. He is actually the one who got me the book as a birthday gift. It has photos and fairly detailed discriptions

Crime of Magnitude - Mediocre rendition
Eighty years later, Mark Lemberger is out to vindicate his paternal grandfather, thought by some to have assaulted and killed his 7 year old daughter, Annie Lemberger, who would have been the author's aunt. The book is thoroughly researched and the reproduction of contemporaneous newspaper coverage throughout the text is interesting. Possibly to avoid allegations of familial bias, Mark goes on and on and on. I got bogged down and put it down.

Fun to share the author¿s obsession
Though the crime being investigated here is nearly a century old, this book shows how little has changed. Rumors, speculation and personal prejudice still sway the press, the public and the law when it come to "unthinkable" and high-profile crimes. Annie was the Jon-Benet of the early 1900s, with her unsolved murder disinterred in the press on every anniversary. Especially interesting is the early role the polygraph played in this crime - 20 years after the fact, Lemberger and the other suspects basically became guinea pigs for the untested (and still controversial) lie detector. Though one reader here thought the wealth of detail bordered on overkill, it's easy to understand (and enjoy) the author's obsession.

Great true crime story
A good read and good detective story. Mr. Lemberger not only spun the yarn but solved the crime.Darn good work.
