White Walls, Designer Dresses: The Fashioning of Modern Architecture

what about the white cube?
And what about the white walls of museums & art galleries. What about "the white cube" (Brian ' O Doherty) It takes Wigley a whole book to show that white walls are far from neutral. So therefore it seems to me a nice contradiction to say the opposite about the white walls of an art galllery. (page 8) In one sentence Wigley seems to forget that there was a very strong relationship between artist & architects in the early modernism. For me, interested in the relationship between art & architecture, this one sentence undermines the whole book. I'm sorry if this reaction is a bit sharp, but this page is too small to give a detailed critique. Wouter Davidts

Thanks for This Great Book!
White-Tailed Deer is a highly-informative and wonderful book for everyone who is either familiar with or wants to learn about the white-tailed deer. I grew up in deer country many years ago and found that this book brought back many good memories and also refreshed my mind regarding this beautiful animal. I saw your book on display at the Book Expo America last weekend in Chicago. After spending some time going through it there, I knew with a certainty that I would order it as soon as I returned home....and that's what I did. Thank you for writing and publishing this great book.

They Know the People
Anyone who wants to know about Northern Ireland should read this book. No nonsense just truth and straight talking. This book does not glorify the Protestant community but makes it clear what they think.

As Catherine Nash said in her review of this book; 'This is a book that should be read'.

Who Are You Stranger?
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Minerva Press (04 March, 1998)
Author: Mark Yaron
Amazon base price: $10.95
Average review score:

I thoroughly enjoyed Who Are You Stranger.
This book taught me a lot about aspects of World War II that are not commonly known. The story line of the first story ( there are three stories)was vivid and I couldn't put the book down until I found out the outcome. There were no tedious descriptions or uninteresting historical explanations. I never once skimmed but hung on every word. The other two stories were wonderful character analyses. I especially loved the final story that has a twist at the end. Although too late, the main character finally learns about herself in a wonderful culmination of truths. I recommend this book to all; it is beautifully written, touching and I dare anyone to start to read it and put it down!

Who is Queen of the Forest?
Published in Hardcover by Essay International (November, 2000)
Authors: Beijia Lin and Mark Thurman
Amazon base price: $16.99
Average review score:

Delightful Little Tale With a Moral, Richly Illustrated
Lin's adaptation of this ancient Chinese fable for young children infuses an ancient tale with an unsurpassed richness and playfullness in the telling.

The story unfolds in the bamboo forests of ancient China, where a clever fox must outwit a hungry tiger bent on eating her. Along the way we meet many forest animals who unwittingly help the fox to trick the "Queen of the Forest."

Written in clear, well crafted, simple prose, the book suits the young and exploratory mind well, providing both a moral: (that intelligent thinking often overcomes great might), and an adventurous and suspensful discovery of that moral.

The book is lovingly and dynamically illustrated, with colourful scenery which leaps from the pages: from the faces of the animals, filled with human personality, to the lush green, inviting backdrop of the bamboo forests.

All in all, a wonderful and passionate little book. I highly recommend it!

Why America Stopped Voting: The Decline of Participatory Democracy and the Emergence of Modern American Politics (American Social Experience Series)

Kornbluh is a great teacher.
Mark Kornbluh was my history professor at Washington University in St. Louis and is the best teacher I've ever had. You'd be hard pressed to find an academic working today who is as good as Kornbluh at tying historical to current events and making historical subjects relevant and meaningful to today's audiences. With candidates gearing up for the 2000 election cycle and the Internet rapidly changing the way we interact with each other and participate in our democracy, Kornbluh does a great service in helping us see how things got to be the way they are.

Back Cover
The God of the Bible is a God on the move. He "comes down" to rescue Israel from Egypt. He "goes before" His people in the wilderness. And He "comes" to the exiles in Babylon, to restore them to their land-and to Himself. David Perry argues that the coming of God is the backdrop to the book of Mark. Mark begins his gospel with Isaiah's announcement of God coming to restore His people: "Prepare the way of the Lord." Then, throughout his narrative, Mark opens scene after scene with the coming of Jesus: Jesus comes to the Jordan, He enters a house, He comes to Jerusalem, He enters the temple. These "arrival references," the author contends, are more than incidental details. They are the key to the story, highlighting Jesus' arrivals as the unfolding fulfillment of God's arrival. And like God coming to the exiles, Jesus comes to restore: He heals the sick, He teaches righteousness, He cleanses the temple, He dies for sinners, and He rises again. He is the coming of God for the restoration of His people-and all peoples. And that is why He is good news.

"Informed, entertaining, and encouraging. Full of thoughtful reflections and earthy anecdotes. This book will give you food for thought and inspiration for worship."
Aled Griffith, Principal
King's Bible College
Oxford, England

"Scholarly and yet easy to read. It speaks to the heart and to the intellect. I highly commend it!"
Barney Coombs, President

"The gospel of Mark is pithy and immediate-and so are David Perry's meditations on it. They are scholarly, clear, and devotional all at once-a rare combination."
Steven Thomas, Senior Pastor
Oxford Community Church
Oxford England

David Perry is a graduate of Beloit College and Providence Theological Seminary. He is a teaching elder at Gateway Christian Community and academic dean of The King's Commission Ministry Training Institute. He lives with his wife Velma in Winnipeg, Canada. Great Book!
This story is about a little girl who lives in an old house where her parents are the caretakers and tourguides. One day, while trying to escape a horde of tourists, she accidentally wakes the mischievous ghost of Wild Robert.

This was another great story by an author I truly admire. Read it! The illustrations are great, too.
