Good intro or review book.
This book was wrtten for all level of practioners in the traditional arts of shorin-ryu karate-do. It is a detailed training and instruction manual for those wishing to improve ther existing karate skills. The techniques and excercises have been broken down and described in great detail to make them easier to learn. This book is more specific to the Shobayash Shorin Ryu system and Shudokan system of karate-do.

Dim cymraeg
Old things have their own irrational fascination and I suppose this book is meant for amusement rather than edification. The authors do suggest that these survivals (which in many cases are recent re-creations of dubious historical authenticity) represent someting positive about Britain. They suggest that respect for tradition produces stabilty. They do not address the possibility that this sort of thing feeds into snobbery and class bias.
I was intrigued by the strong Scottish representation and lack of anything Welsh. Symbols of Welsh identity were obliterated by the central government to such an extent that even the flag of Great Britain contains only the crosses of St George, St Patrick and St Andrew. Why was this? Wales was the one country of the British Isles to retain the primary badge of national identity, a separate language.
But perhaps this taking the book too seriously. It's enjoyable and often funny and the pictures are great.

Excellent Balanced Account
This is a very good book which tries to give an objective and balanced assessment of the Kennedy Presidency free from 'Camelot' or 'sleaze' biases.

It succeeds.

I thoroughly recommend it.

Great Book Explaining the "Killer Bee" phenomenon
This book ranks as one of the best books I have read on the subject of Africanized Honey Bees. (aka Killer Bees) This book is easily understood by the layperson, yet full of great data for the serious student of this exotic pest. From Texas to California, we have to learn how to live with this creature - it is not going away! I strongly recommend this book. While I have been teaching classes on the subject of Africanized Honey Bees for the better part of a decade, I still keep this book handy as a reference, and recommend it to my students.

King Leopold's Soliloquy

Is it what's really that bad that makes this book so good?
In beginning Twain's "King Leopold's Soliloquy", one immediately notices how wordy Twain is. Yet, the context plays a major role in portraying the oddity of how the king actually thought his cruelty was well deserved. This book is pure genius when it comes to irony and sarcasim. One of Twain's most horrid yet thought provoking novels.

Something's missing.
All Kithbooks of Changeling: the Dreaming are great, but all of them deserves only four stars. Why? Because they have unique treasures, Kith's story, but I think that these books would be better if wich one inculdes a new exclusive Art for the Kith.

Know the marks of cults

Not for everyone...but has a great message.
This little book was first published in 1975, and has a very good message for Christians. Its entire focus is how fictitious cults are, what many of them believe, and how such beliefs come into existence. The author's definition of a cult is printed as follows:

"A cult is a religious perversion. It is a belief and practice in the world of religion which calls for devotion to a religious view or leader centered in false doctrine. It is an organized heresy." (Know the Marks of Cults, chapter one, pg. 14.)

Many Christians are drawn to a falsified gospel, thus making it no Gospel at all. They are led to believe in a religious leader rather than their Creator and Savior. This 128-page, 14-chapter book informs the Believer of the aforementioned so that they do not become entangled in the type of heresies as the Colossians were (see Col. 2:8-9).

On the downside, the language used in the book is not always understandable. The use of such words as "rectitude" (page 106) and "ecumenical" (page 122) make reading somewhat puzzling. During my reading of Know the Marks of Cults, I kept a dictionary handy. If you want a fuller comprehension of what you are reading, I would suggest you do the same.

Another down-point is the chosen translation of supposedly related Scriptures referred to in each chapter. This translation is the King James Version. Since the KJV was translated over a century ago, its language is not as contemporary as the 21st century person might desire. I found myself perplexed at many points in my reading of this book, thinking, "What on earth does that passage have to do with anything the author just mentioned?"

In my humble opinion, I would recommend this book to an older, learned person. (Though anyone with a strong enough desire and will could read through it) It makes some essential points that are somewhat unheard of in the Christian literature industry. Know the Marks of Cults is a helpful book to any follower of Christ who does not want to fall into a cult's trap.

Korean Adoption and Inheritance: Case Studies in the Creation of a Classic Confucian Society

Confucianization in Korea
This work was well put together by Mark Peterson. Many hours of work went into this text. He dives into actual Adoption and Inheritance documents from 15th to 19th century Choson Korea. He uses these documents to show how Korean society transformed from a cognatic inheritance system to a agnatic adoption and inheritance system within the Choson Dynasty. The text will help those familiar with Korean society to understand the emphasis on male offspring and the current situation of Korean familal structure. Using the adoption documents he discusses several possible causes and factors of the change which occured and; refutes a few of his Seoul National University colleague Martina Deuchler's ideas of when the transition to full Confucianization took place. This book helped me to understand the transition and left me with a good feeling. If you're dealing with Confucianism in Korea, this is a must read. A jolly good read

Returning home
The masterpiece of one of the greater Italian writers of the twentieth century. The search of the own roots and the sense of the own life returning to the origin countryside after emigration in America. Also one meaningful testimony on Italy during and after the second world war (and on the point of view of an Italian on the U.S. in that time). Still today a book a lot being involved.
