Groo Intelligent? Somethings wrong here...
Groo the Most Intelligent Man on Earth

The wandering Minstrel encounters one of the most bizarre things in the world: a region of people who hail Groo as the most intelligent person they've ever met. Knowing they've never met Groo if they believe that, he get's himself thrown into jail for hearsay. Arba and Dakarba the sorceresses get involved to find the miracle of Groo's intelligence and the sage is enlisted and here comes the scheming duo Pal and Drumm. In the end Groo saves the day, or did he? Was he or was he not the most intelligent man ever? Included are a few short takes featuring Ruferto.

Note: the printing quality is generally okay to very good for the series, but this is generally a collection for Groo fans and comic book fans. The binding on some of my copies is broken (these are soft backs) and the print is now and then not the greatest. As a fan, I bought every collection I could, and enjoy them despite this! Not though for long-term pristine collectors though.

The first run of Groo at Dark Horse
When Sergio took Groo from Marvel Comics. He went to Image Comics and now He is tring to destroy Dark Horse Comics by having them print Groo. In this re-print of 4 issues of Groo, we find are brainless barbarian friend smart and full of intelligence? Can it be Groo is now up to par with the rest of humanity? But as with Groo, things change and then go back to the way they were. To read Groo is to love Groo.

Fascinating Voyage of Discovery
Guinness World of Records is a Fascinating Voyage of Discovery to facts, figures, feats and lots more! It's amazing to know about the Greatest, Smallest, Heaviest, Tallest, fastest, first and all about the exceptionally 'The Best of the Best'. As far as I remember, the First US edition appeared in New York in 1956 followed by editions in various languages later like the French, German in around 1962/63 and other editions in Japanese, spanish, etc. taking the flight to more than 250 plus editions in various languages. Indian dish 'Dhosa' by Sankalp in Ahmedabad, as the longest and largest size, is also on the Food Category which itself is Hall of Fame in Guiness World Records with more and more records to amaze us. Another Hotel Crown Plaza from Ahmedabad too, is featured for the Biggest Menu. The Book is divided into Categories on various topics with unique occurences and interesting peculiarities. Watching Guinness World Records on Television & Ripleys is just Great viewing but reading and possessing the Book is a Prize Collection. I recommend such Books as they make a good Useful Book Shelf Possession.

The BEST conversation starter that I know of!
I love to have a copy of the Book of World Records handy when I knkow I may need help starting a comversation. All I have to do is open up the book and start asking questions to someone, like "Hey, guess who was 8 ft. 11.1 in. tall?"

Within minutes the ice is broken. Even though I don't always buy a copy every year, I eventually update. I can't stand to be estranged from the current record-holders.

Reasonable Intro to Medical Informatics
I have used this book for an intro. course and found it to be a reasonable beginner book. Medical Informatics is a broad topic to say the least, and any book attempting to summarize it will suffer from the task.

This book is slightly dated, but has a helpful web site.

If you want a broad exposure to MI then this is not a bad place to start.

A first in Intenet compatible books
This book not only covers all of the varied and important topics in Medical Informatics, it does so in a unique way using the conventions of the Internet. Key words appear in blue and are underlined. These words not only appear in the index, but the authors maintain a server where these references point to URLs with the latest updated information on the topic cited. Thus the book is an expert source to material far beyond what can be contained within its own pages.

A tour de force!

An excellent review of the anthropological canon
This book is an excellent text on which to base an upper level undergraduate introduction to the history of anthropological theory, although most teachers will want to supplement it with additional readings. The introductory chapter essays provide interesting and helpful biographical data on each author, as well as material historically situating the textual excerpts offered. While the selections are generally well-chosen as to importance, brevity and ease of reading, some do not necessarily represent an author's best or most important work (e.g. the selection offered for A.L. Kroeber). The text covers basic trends in anthropological theory up to about the 1970's, and includes many historically significant authors who might otherwise be "written out" in favor of more recent theoretical stars. While I would not recommend this as the *only* reading for a theory class, it does a great job of introducing students to the history of anthropological theory, while leaving the teacher room to decide how and where to supplement it with additional (or more recent) readings.

Seminal Reading for all social scientists
This book is an insightful compilation of all the groundbreaking researchers in Anthropology. By reading this book, one gains a comprehensive understanding of the evolution of anthropological theory and praxis. This book contains valuable biographical information as well as selected works from each of the persons profiled. It is a must read for anyone interested in the world of anthropology.

entertaining list of ales, lagers and meads,
Although there isn't enough information presented here for the truly novice brewer(just a short formulation chapter at start of the book and the appendixes in back)I found this book to be very interesting to read. People have come up with all sorts of recipes, who'd ever have time to try them all?, and such names! The names these guys have come up with are almost better than their recipes. I especially liked the chapter on hombrews made with honey, those might be the easiest for a novice and seem to be hard to find.

An excellent book from extract to all grain!
Karl presents a comprehensive collection of ale and lager recipes. The recipes include both extract and all grain recipes at about a 50/50 porportion.

I enjoyed the book immensely as I was departing from kits and following recipes. All the recipes I made came out fantastic and I still make some of them today.

Some of the things I exceptionally, liked are:

Several recipes come from competitions. I had found these recipes came out exceptionally well.

Although one would think that the recipes from competitions would be more complex, but in fact they were not.

I used the book for extract recipes only, so I cannot comment on the all grain recipes. However speaking for the extract recipes, it is certainly a book I have read time and time again as I select what type of beer I am going to make next.

Great for beginners but you NEED GOOD EYESIGHT
I bought the fifth edition about 3 weeks ago(June 15,2002)wanting a structured approach to Internet instead of my haphazard random approach; yes, the text is STILL valid in 2002 for the Internet for all the fundamentals for a beginner( I am a beginner) BUT YOU WILL NEED AN EXCELLENT EYESIGHT TO READ THE COLOR PICTURES; the text next to the pictures is easy to read but the screenshots of the computer monitor(screen) are way too small. That is the only reason I gave him four stars instead of five. Great book for beginners, you can complete a chapter per day easily in one hour in general with a lot of pleasure in discovering you understand everything. The How-to-Hints section are really more directed to advanced users, but surprisingly a beginner can understand and use them as well.GO FOR IT BUT GET SPECIAL LENSES TO VIEW THE SCREEN PICTURES.

A nice guide for new Internet users
This is an easy to use book for complete beginners who want to start using the net. I'm going to send it to my mom, who just got a computer for Christmas and wants to use e-mail and ebay.

The feared and maybe revered Cave Bear of the Ice Age
I am a dinosaur person and have been ever since my Great Aunt Helen took me to the Peabody Museum at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut where they had the "brontosaurus" skeleton with the wrong head and the famous mural on the Age of Dinosaurs. There was also the display on prehistoric mammals, with its own mural, and pretty good skeletons of a sabertooth tiger and elk, but it was not the same. However, after reading "Clan of the Cave Bear" and the rest of the "Earth's Children" series by Jean M. Auel I do have much more respect for and interest in the "Ice Age Cave Bear: The Giant Beast that Terrified Ancient Humans" (the Peabody does not have a Cave Bear skeleton the last time I checked). In fact, Barabar Hehner comments indirectly on "Clan of the Cave Bear" in this book when she talks about how the theories that the Neanderthals worshipped the cave bear have been called into question (prominently on the back cover in fact). That is rather disappointing if true, but that is why fiction is often more entertaining than the truth.

This volume begins with what are knowledge of Cave Bears began, with the discovery of the Chauvet Cave in France where early humans painted images of the feared beasts on the walls. However, by the end of the ice age the last of the cave bears had died out and all that remains are hundreds of thousands of bones and the eerie cave paintings. This book goes into detail on what the cave bears looked like, where and how they lived, and examines the possible causes of their extinction. Most of the book is illustrated with paintings by Mark Hallett, the most interesting of which is the "actual size" painting of a cave bear's paw so young readers can compare its size with that of their own puny human hands. There is also a chart tracing the family tree of the bear family from Miacis to the American Black Bear of today. You will also find color photographs of cave bear skeletons as well as the paintings of the bears and the marks of claws on the walls of their caves.

The illustrations tend to overshadow the text at times, not just because of the size of Hallett's paintings but also because the type used for Hehner's text is a tad on the small size. Probably because she is working so much information into the text all about the size, behavior, dwellings, and extinction of the cave bear. Young students assigned to research this subject for class will find it useful for finding out information both about the cave bears and what encountering them would have been like for early humans. The back of the book includes a Glossary, Recommended Further Reading, Web Sites, and Index. The Ice Age Animals series also has volumes on the Mammoth and Sabertooth, also authored by Hehner, for those who enjoyed Manny and Deigo in the film "Ice Age." As for me, after this book, I still like Cave Bears best (after Dinosaurs).

With eye-catching, realistic illustrations
Mark Hallett provides eye-catching, realistic illustrations to accompany the dramatic story of massive giant cave bears who were feared thousands of years ago. Kids in grades 5-6 will find this slim-looking book anything but a simple reader: it's packed with information and smaller print than usual, but has a high interest level to keep kids excited about the prehistoric creatures.

Vision of Disaster
This book illustrates to anyone who didn't experience the Ice Storm first hand exactly what it looked and felt like. The photographs show the vast distruction of trees and hydro lines; farm animals and wildlife. The text tells in detail some of the personal stories of the ordeal. The photographs will keep the memory of the events alive for many years to come.

Do We Have Any Sidewalk Salt?
That was the question I asked my wife when I opened the front door to check for a newspaper on Monday, January 5, 1998. The steady drizzle was obviously turning icy and, having gone through this before on many occasions, I knew any trip down the front steps was going to be an adventure in keeping one's footing. Little did I realize what was to come.

This "Historic Record In Photographs Of January 1998" with text by Mark Abley tells the whole story of that fateful storm which was simultaneously beautiful ... and deadly. Not to mention hugely expensive.

The collected colour photographs in this large-size volume [30cm wide x 23.5cm] are absolutely amazing, from ice-covered, downed trees, snapped hydro poles, collapsed hydro towers, frozen, stalled vehicles, to dead cattle, each tells a story.

And if and when I find myself complaining about the oppresive humid heat of an Ottawa summer day, I just haul this out to quickly remind myself how much worse the winters can be.

Anyone who lived through it should have a copy. For those of you who live in tropical climes - it's a wonderful incentive to stay put.
