Well organized contents
I ordered about a half-dozen books on Java Enterprise Edition, and found this (series) to be the best organized material.

The authors presented features in the context of the overall vision, helping me to better understand not only what is in J2EE, but what the thinking is on its future.

As an overview to J2EE, I found this very helpful.

This did not, however, have any compare and contrast materials with Windows DNA/COM+, nor did it have the kinds of detail you would expect in a programmer reference.

J2EE specifications
This book is 'just' a paper version of what you can download for free from java.sun.com. It includes the specifications for: J2EE, Servlets, JSP and EJB - including FAQs and a Glossary (everything available for free on Suns site). The specifications are the definite reference - and proves a good supplement to other books. Worth reading.

Good details and overall a good book
The book explains all the components of the J2EE specification and also talks about how they work with each other. The sections on EJBs and Servlets are quite comprehensive and definitely clarify a lot of misconceptions.

Overall a good book for any Enterprise developer.

Outstanding
This book is very informative and can be easily related to those w/ no jazz training! Billy Barnard was also an excelent teacher... along with his help on this book!

Everything You Wanted to Know About Jazz
This is the most accurate, user-friendly intro to jazz. It focuses on the music, not the personal lives of the musicians. It explains, patiently and systematically, in luminously clear prose, what jazz is and how to get the most out of listening to it. It details the origins of jazz as well as the distinguishing characteristics of all the major styles: Dixieland, Swing, Bebop, Cool, Hard Bop, "Free Jazz" and Avant-Garde of the 60s and 70s, and Jazz-Rock Fusion. It profiles 144 musicians' contributions (their sources, their styles, and lists of the others they influenced) and provides classification of more than 1000 other musicians, in easy-to-understand categories. Strategies for locating the best albums for all the top musicians. Optional CD of historic recordings is available. Optional CD of narrated demonstrations of the jazz instruments, song forms and methods that jazz musicians use to make their music is also available. Loaded with instrument sketches and photos of key musicians in action, this is America's most widely-used intro to jazz and has been translated into 5 foreign languages. Its author is an award-winning researcher and jazz musician who has travelled to South America, The Caribbean and Africa, as well as all the jazz centers of America. His work is so down-to-earth and practical that it has been adopted for use in jazz appreciation and jazz history courses at more than 500 high schools and colleges.

Gridley Swings -- and hits The Groove On this One!
This is my first in depth study on Jazz in America. My first musical interests as a teenager were jazz, classical, and Bob Dylan. I began listening to Miles Davis, Al Hirt, Dizzy Gillespie and John Coltrane in the early sixties. They were followed by Bob Dylan, and, in 1967, my last year in the Army, Bay Area bands. An avid tape collector, I got reintroduced to jazz in the last few years as I have returned to those roots and sought some information about the origins of jazz, as well as the key players in the United States. Gridley's book was found at a used book store, alas, without the cassettes. I have longed for the cassettes, so that I could hear the music he references in his text. This IS a text book. I found it challenging, not having any musical knowledge. I still am in over my head on the musical descriptions, but the chapters are logically broken down into the origins of jazz in New Orleans, early jazz, bop, hard bop, Chicago style jazz, west coast jazz, etc. Gridley clearly knows his players. He shows the progressions of players and followers and has special designations for some of the more modern jazz players in my time frame -- Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Charlie Parkery, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Ornette Coleman, Art Blakey, etc. And he also references some of the newer men or groups on the jazz scene, including Sun Ra, Weather Report, Mahavishnu Orchestra. I saw the latter play in the late sixties. Gridley's description, for instance, of Mahavishnu's kinetic energy of those years is apt. I personally left that show wired to the max, convinced I could never endure anything like that again. I am sure that this book is associated with college level music courses that are meant for musically inclined students who want to go deeper into the genre. And this book, in my opinion, is so well written, with such a deep glossary, such vivid musical descriptions of the various sounds produced by different musicians and groups, that I am convinced it would be a maximum value for such a student. I will most likely shell out the full price so that I can grab the cassettes. I believe that this book, coupled with the cassettes, will allow me to go much deeper into my own personal revival of American Jazz. I would STRONGLY recommend this book for novices and college level students who are interested in jazz at a more professional level. Organizationally, the book is right on. Plenty of charts that describe the various "roots" of American jazz as they coalesced in New Orleans. And Gridley makes a point that sounds valid in saying that not all those various "roots" were African-American. I am grateful I found this gem in the half-priced book store and will surely purchase the original in the near future. I think you will like this one if you are approaching jazz at both an afficionado and technical level. Good reading!

Simple and Beautiful
This book is a beautiful and simple way to read about Jesus' life. Great for people who find it hard to follow the Bible and also for those who need a fresh look at the life of Jesus.

All of the Girzone books I have read are wonderful. So refreshing and uplifting. Also, easy to read and understand.

I highly recommend this book.

The Gospels Come Alive!
Having read all of Fr. Girzone's other books, I thirst for each of his new offerings. This book did not disappoint me. His ability to inject warmth and a personal perspective transform the Gospels from a more historical context to making the reader feel as though they were part of a beautiful story.

Anyone who has felt a bit arm's length when reading Scripture will find that they are welcomed into God's story as part of it. Fr. Girzone's writings continue to help bring my God closer to me.....and for that I thank him.....eternally.

Lowell Rinker

Matt, Mark, Luke, John,& Joseph Girzone tell Jesus' Story
It is a wonderful read! The story of Jesus pooled together by Fr. Girzone and the Friends of Jesus, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. A smooth telling of the life of Jesus that allows one who is a "beginner" or "expert" of the Gospels to envision the life of Jesus through a flowing account.

Relaunch of JLA is entertaining though somewhat dated
This book compiles the first seven issues of the Justice League relaunch from 1987, following the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths which completely changed the DC Universe during the previous year. Successful at the time and noted for bringing humor and a dose of reality into the superhero realm, it still holds its entertainment value yet can't help but feel a little dated -- check out Black Canary's hairdo on the cover! One should note that Batman and Martian Manhunter are the only two of the traditional "Big 7" to appear in this version of the team, though Superman and the Hal Jordan Green Lantern make cameo appearances.

BRILLIANT! NO OTHER WORD CAN DESCRIBE IT
This collection collects some of my favourite comics. Its a fresh take on what was starting to become tired and cliched. This is still my favourite version of the Justice League. These first issues introduce the humerous Justice League created by Kieth Giffen and JM DeMaties. The stories in this collection still have a somewhat serious tone when compared to the later stories but they are still hillarious. The first few issues of JL include an absolute classic showdown between Guy Garder and Batman (which was unfortunately written out of continuity by Zero Hour), Dr Fate the way he is supposed to be written and an excellent battle against the Grey Man, who was never written better. The lineup at the time also included Black Canary, Martian Manhunter, Blue Beetle and Captain Marvel. Although never officially a leaguer, Maxwell Lord is also a classic character.

Excellent writing, great storytelling- made me a DC fan!
The combination of Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMattias were extrordinary. The stories kept you captivated, but the wisecracks, in-fighting, and verbal jabs were hilarious! Many times I'd be reading then burst out laughing because these guys had comic timing down cold. It's also great that they had artists that could work with them!

If these guys ever pair up again, buy it in a heartbeat!

Frightening and Funny at the Same Time!
The sentence..."The jars were chipped and cracked, but they were neatly shelved, and the picture-writing on them was still cherry and bright after five thousand years."...told us an ancient story. The sentence after...."Only a single jar was in perfect condition.." gave us a large shiver! I think the King of Cats is an excellent book for people who are fans of Sabrina the Teenage Witch or even someone that likes scary stories because this book is scary!

Tooo much bad luck
The book The King of cats (Salems Tails) was very interesting. If you like books that you never want to put down this is deffinetly a book for you! This book is about a cat named Salem who lives with three witches and he gets into a bind and bad luck is cursed on his house. So if you think that this would be an interesting book for you and you want to know why the bad luck happens then this is deffinetly a book for you!

Salem, cute and funny.
Sometimes Salem is too smart for his own good! He had to sneak into the local museum to see a special exhibit on ancient Egypt. And then he had to show how smart he was by reading a riddle on an ancient vase. The riddle that promises bad luck until it is solved. Now he's doomed! Sabrina and her aunts don't believe Salem's having bad luck. But how else can they explain the way everything around him keeps getting broken or ruined? It's getting so bad, the aunts are going to make him an "outside kitty" forever! With a little magic and a quick trip back in time, Salem is determined to find out the answer to the riddle--before it's too late!

Cute bedtime book
I read this to my 4 year old before she goes to sleep each night. It's become one of her favorites. It's the story of a hurried goodnight kiss that a king blows to his young son. Of course the kiss misses and the king sends his loyal knight to retrieve it. The knight and his horse have a little adventure ending with the kiss being returned to it's intended recipient. The book has cute, well executed illustrations, but the ending just doesn't seem like an end. Otherwise I would have given a full 5 stars. Still, I'd recommend it.

This "Kiss" doesn't miss a thing
What might happen if a king's goodnight kiss is blown to his son, but accidentally misses...and lands on a dragon instead? In this funny picture book for little princes everywhere, that's exactly the dilemma at hand. The king is in too big of a hurry to give his son a proper tucking in bed, so the kiss goes astray, floating out the Prince's bedroom window. The king orders his knight to mount his horse and give chase, but the forest is filled with spooky things. Faced with bears and wolves, they loose sight of the kiss, which flies right up the nose of a giant green dragon. As the knight ponders the problem, a bigger problem finds him when the dragon takes chase. Will this the tragic end of the knight and his horse? The big kiss off? Author/illustrator David Melling ("Gerda The Goose") builds the climax into a grin-worthy story twist, and the moral of the story is one that will not be taken lightly by all those too-busy dads out there. This "Kiss" doesn't miss a thing.

A great find
I picked this book up by chance, and my son will not let me put in down! It is great. The illustrations are very detailed and lead to great conversations. It is almost a shame it is a "bedtime book" because we get so involved in talking about the story and the pictures that he doesn't really get sleepy. It is a favorite of us both. I am sure that this will be the gift we bring to every birthday party we are invited to in the future.

Excellent book for someone feeeling totally confused.
I was totally confused about where I was and where I wanted to go with the rest of my life. Mark Gerzon gives wonderful examples of others that have faced similar questions in their own life from Buzz Aldrin to many of his own everyday patients. Although not every chapter was of interest, I found this to be an excellent jumping off place for my own quest to integrate my "Shadow Side" with the successful life I had achieved so far. I wish I had read this before I started my own search for my "second half of my life" identity.

Midlife soul searching.
By midlife, many people derive their personal identities from college degrees, marriage, careers, children, and their material possessions. In our middle years, Freud says that we look for ourselves in work and love. "Inexplicable exhaustion, mysterious pain, insomnia, uncontrollable crying, profound dissatisfaction at work" are all symptoms of a midlife transition (p. 22). "Deny your body's message too long," Mark Gerzon warns, "and you may get sick. Deny your mind's warnings, and you may go crazy. Deny your soul too long, and you may lose it" (p. 36).

I arrived at this book adrift at 43, with my life in transition, yearning for a greater sense of authenticity in my life. "In the second half of life," Gerzon writes, "our old compasses no longer work. The magnetic fields alter. The new compass that we need cannot be held in our hand, only in our heart. We read it not with our mind alone, but with our soul . . . Now we yearn for wholeness" (p. 5). In his insightful examination of body, marriage, work, aging, our planet, and spirituality, Gerzon reassures us that "aging has meaning" (p. 182). He encourages to adjust our thinking to view a midlife transition as a natural opportunity for personal growth, rather than as a crisis. Seen this way, the "private, lonely, and often unchartered journey" (p. 107) through midlife becomes a time for "healing deep wounds, seeking our soul/mate, caring for our families, committing ourselves to a true Calling, respecting the aging process and our elders" (p. 220). It is a time, Gerzon writes, for having the "ultimate affair with the ultimate stranger: your shadow" (p. 109). Midlife is an opportunity for transformation, for facing the shadows of our personalty (p. 81), for paying attention to disillusionments (p. 109), for bringing heaven down into our daily lives (pp. 263-64), and for listening to our dreams, our "inner elders" (p. 274).

This five-star book offers wisdom and clarity to any reader attempting to make sense of the journey through midlife.

G. Merritt

If your old compass is broken...
I discovered this book early in my crisis. Three years later I still routinely consult Gerzon's wisdom. I've read volumes trying to find my through what he calls The Forest Dark, and no words have rung truer than those found in Listening to Midlife. It's a masterpiece and, for those of us with a malfunctioning compass, a light to guide us through what can be the most terrifying time of adult life. His best advice: Have the Ultimate Affair with the Ultimate Stranger - Your Shadow.

Mark has been there, he knows the way through.

A must have if you ...
This is a must have if you purchase the game. Now this is NOT the best game in the world. It is not advised to even purchase this game, it is slow... You'd be safer to go with the two towers. But if you do buy this game (probably for the same reason I did..which was it is LOTR and I just have to own it) this is the ideal companion for you. The beginning of the game is very very hard. It takes awhile to get around the Ringwraith riders, and when you finally do you go into another part of town where unless y ou know what you are doing you wont be able to find your way out. So dont expect the game to be simple, it isn't much fun, in fact it is quite aggrivating. But if you do buy the game you have to buy this so you actually know what you are doing, and not wandering around like a fool in the woods...as I was until I read some of this ;)

Lord of the Rings:
The Fellowship of the Ring
By J.R.R. Tolkien

The Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring is an action packed magical thriller. It keeps you on edge with every flip of the page.
The book begins with the old Bilbo Baggins planning for his one hundredth and eleventh birthday. Half the Shire's been invited! It looks as though it'll be a night to remember. When Bilbo vanishes during his birthday speech, he leaves the crowd in awe. Seeing as how he is now leaving, for another adventure, and shan't be returning, he leaves his precious Bag End and all his possessions behind. His heir and second cousin one-removed, Frodo Baggins now has to carry the responsibility of taking the One Ring to Mordor to be destroyed.
To get to Mordor, Frodo must leave his beloved Shire and travel through Old forests, empty plains, and rocky mountains. He soon reaches Rivendale, with the help of a strange Rider, Aragorn, and an elf named Arwin. From there, Frodo and his three faithful companions, Merry, Pippin, and Sam become part of the Fellowship of the Ring.
To find out more, read the book!

I found this book to be delightful at all hours of the day for all ages! I highly recommend it if you're looking for a great adventure with out even leaving your couch!

The Lord of the Rings:The Fellowship of the Ring JRR Tolkien
Finally, a book I actually like, in and out! Tolkien amazes me with his ability to imagine the diverse characters and places in The Lord of the Rings. This book portrays leadership, and the long enduring of good in an evil world. I am very pleased with the detail that Tolkien puts into the novel so that the reader can understand completely each situation. Tolkien writes the book so that the readers feel as if it could be real. It's an outstanding novel that teaches us that we need to bear our burdens and stick together so that good can prevail in a world of such turmoil.
Tolkien has made me think a lot more about my characteristics and whether or not I would be able to bear the ring. Would I be able to withstandthe temptation of putting on the ring? Or using it's power for my own good? It's an outstanding concept. This book leaves you in anticipation for the next. The suspense of what is going to happen next is nerve-racking.
Overall, I just enjoyed the material, and I feel that Tolkein is a very experienced writer. He knows how to captivate readers, and enthral their minds into the book.

I saw this play in person, and just finished the book. Nothing better than great poetry made for our time. Highly recomend for those who who've seen it, or heard a review. Some of the plays are musical so they don't translate well to paper. One drawback.

Superbly Performable Language Driven Text
Love's Fire embodies our perception of language. The spoken and unspoken voices of God, Love, Nature, and Humanity become the essential elements in this collection of one acts. Riveting and powerful, Love's Fire demands to be performed. Not only is the language spoken by the actors and heard by the audience, but the language of our contemporary masters blends with the master of language himself, William Shakespeare. As Love's Fire reinvigorates our grasp of language we come to an understanding that poems, sonnets, books, plays, spiritual songs, or body movements fuel the fire of love. An excellent piece of work by 7 masters who dedicated the collection to the Bard.

Brilliant idea...beautifully realized
Shakespeare's inspired words talk to today's audience through the intriguing interpretations of master American playrights. Especially fascinating is John Guare's "The General of Hot Desire". These original works defy description...so read them...or better yet...perform them...and appreciate these unique literary gems in all their splendor.

Good little book, but...
Good little book, but some stunning errors in husbandry descriptions which could be a potential disaster for beginning Mbuna keepers. I highly recommend that aquarists look for at least a second opinion before choosing individual species as described in this book.

Best Little Cichlid Book I've Ever Read!
This is THE best little cichlid book for Lake Malawi. But don't let the word little fool you, this book is packed with information on dozens of Lake Malawi cichlids. I especially like that the book breaks down the lake's cichlids into the two main categories of mbuna and Haplochromines. There are over 100 excellent color photos of the most popular species accompanied by descriptions of natural habitat, size, husbandry requirements, diet, and breeding. I always take this book with me when I go to a fish auction or my local aquarium society meeting. There are other books that contain information on more species but none that gives you this much information at such a great price!

Excellent guide to Malawi Cichlids
Book Lake Malawi Cichlids describes natural habitats of Lake Malawi, different groups of cichlids and gives very good instructions how to set up aquarium that will match fish's natural requirements. It contains beautiful photos (some of them also taken in the nature!) and descriptions of some aquariums cichlids. It contains a lot of information given in very understandable way, I missed that in many other more comprehensive books. I recommend this book to all beginners and also to more advanced aquarists.
