"W.A.C. Bennett is dead, long live W.A.C. Bennett"
The indispensible history of Bennett and his province
With the ascention of the technocrat Bill Bennett to the premier's office, one may indeed wonder if the age of populism in B.C. and across Canada is over. David Mitchell provides a masterful picture of one of Canada's great politicans; a man in the exclusive company of past politicans like Bill Aberhart, Diefenbaker, Mitch Hepburn, and Joey Smallwood. The difference between Bennett and these others is the amount of success in their political careers. Mitchell also guides readers through the time of expansion, "The Rise of BC," accomplishments that were largly due to the efforts of it's premier. Mitchell states that when Bennett finally passed away in 1978, BC was, for the first time in a quarter of a century, on it's own. He's right. BC has always lacked strong premiers to lead the province since Bennett. The book is a beautiful journey through Bennett's life, his times, and the province he moulded in his image. Anyone wishing to understand BC politics and BC in general need to first understand the man who defined both, and Mitchell does an exceptionally good job of doing so.

One of the most extraordinary books I have read
this is a hasty review. If you want to know about life in very hard places and times where people live constantly on the border beetween life and death and to undersand how people survive, love, live and die in such places then read this book.
One of the best at understanding Somalia
Though describing a bygone era in Somalia, this book has few peers when it comes to giving an up-close-and-personal view of the Somalis. Anyone wishing to understand how the US and United Nations came to get so mired in this Horn of Africa country should read this book--and note the lessons that that were never learned before the 1992-1993 humanitarian and military intervention there.

Fruitful Work of Theologian-Physicist
The vapor canopy model of the flood is truly one to be reckoned with. Here, scientists of various disciplines engage in scientific speculation whether this model would be possible. From meterologist to hydrologist to engineer, the evidence in most cases stacks up well with the scientific evidence that we now see and explore.
Rather than write this off as religion, these are credible scientists who continue the work of Morris and his book "The Genesis Flood." Any such look into the ancient earth is speculative at best, but here the evidence presented gives credence to the biblical account of Noah's Flood. Worthy of finding and reading, even if you have to skip the weighty mathematical sections.
this book can be bought from "Creation Research Foundation"
This is an incredible book from a known author who writes about the flood of Noah. It is one of the most comprehensive books I've ever read which refutes the theory of evolution as taught in our schools. The book has many "physics" charts to go along with all that has been discovered concerning a universal flood. After reading this book, there is left little doubt that the flood was real, that it was universal, and that there is a God who orchestrated it all. The section of the "wooly mammoths" is incredible. It is a thick book, a textbook, but underlining helps.

Marvelous!!!
This book is one of the most beautiful depictions of the birth of our Lord. The images are so emotion-filled. The one I like particularly well is of Joseph and Mary and the infant Savior. Mary is holding the baby in her arms while Joseph looks at him with love, amazement and a little curiosity. Priceless!! A must have!
Beautiful Telling of the Christmas Story
Absolutely beautiful, poignant pictures accompany the scriptural telling of the Saviors birth. I read these same scriptures to my children every christmas, how nice it will be to have them all together with pictures to go with them. This a brilliant artist whose paintings seem to come to life. One can feel the emotions on Mary and Joseph's faces and the pictures of the Christ Child are fantastic. LDS readers will enjoy this book best because some references are made from LDS scriptures .

My sister is correct, I did not write this book.
My sister, Dr. Priscilla Ebersole, is correct in all that she says. I did not write "When Timber Stood Tall." I did, however, illustrate it with several line drawings of the logging woods, equipment and scenery. I do not usually use the "Junior" after my name.
Joseph H. Pierre, Jr.
Early Experiences of the author of Logging in Oregon
First, there is an incorrect attribution of authorship of Timber Stood Tall. Joseph H Pierre was deceased 15 years ago. As a very young man and for the first 15 years of his adulthood he worked "in the woods," primarily driving logging trucks. This book gives the reader a first hand experience as he lived it. His son Joseph H Pierre Jr has authored the books mentioned in the interview presently posted but he is not the author of Timber Stood Tall. However, he has also had an adventurous life. Please clarify this discrepancy in your records.

Amazing book......
I actually picked up a copy of this book at my school library when they were doing the year-end, old book sell-out. I brought it home and read it so many times that the cover has since been lost. It's a great story, and so completely descriptive that it had my imagination going even more with every turn of a page. I have actually cried more than once while reading it. In fact, every single time. :) It's an amazing tale and now I feel I have to go read it again.
A childhood favorite
Any child in search of a good adventure story would do well to read this book. The tale grew more vivid in my imagination with each of many readings. Books such as this should be reprinted to fill the void in good children's literature left by the politically correct trends of current authors. I loved this book as a child and the story is not one that will be dated, but can intrigue children today as well.

The Winter People
This is a truly fasincating story told in a different perspective, through the eyes of a Native American. The novel shows us a totally opposite side of the stories and documents recorded and still used today in life. After I finally finished reading "The Winter People", I had an unique and new perspective towards the Abenakis. You will too, and I still do, hold a strong respect towards these people and their way of life.
Highly Reccomend this book
I found this to be both an easy to read book, and historically accurate as well. Bruchac is an amazing writer, and teaches many lessons while the the story is told. This book should definately be read by middle school-high school students because it will help teach about both the native peoples and the Seven Years war, and help to wash away some of the stereotypes that have plagued native peoples for many years.

Una luz en el tunel de los PCS
Creo sinceramente que este es uno de los mejores libros, que cualquier profesional de la telecomunicaciones, debe tener, a la hora de consulta sobre los PCS y otras tecnologias sobre wirele- ss data. Emerson Puerta
You must definitely buy this book!
As an RF engineer, involved in Wireless Network Design and Implementation, I found this book the most resourceful in my personal library. It is a perfect blend of all Wireless Technologies, Cellular, Wireless and also IP. What I appreciated most was that the book covered all my needs. If you need to know antenna theory and digital modulation techniques, on top of Wireless technologies, you need not spend time and money on other texts. The contents of this book will no doubt be helpful to everyone, from graduates and engineers to academics. I personally congratulate the authors for the great job!
The Wit and Wisdom of the Mae West

A classic
This is a book Mae West tried to have stopped because she wanted a cut of the money. It went through THREE different editions! FILLED with photos and every saying she ever said, it is highly recommended.
A Thrill a Day Keeps the Chill Away
I love this book and have worn out my original! It exemplifies just how quick-witted and lyrical Miss West was. Every page drips with her saucy sayings and gorgeous and alluring photos. Even if someone is not a Mae West fan, she will appreciate her wit and he will appreciate her beauty.

Mitchell has done a top notch job in recounting the life and times of W.A.C., using the medium of a biography to relate the growth and development of a region. This is even more remarkable given the disfavour that biographies of white, male politicians have fallen into in the past few decades as a historical means of recounting the past.
Mitchell relies heavily on personal interviews he conducted with Bennett in the last years of his life, along with those of the many individuals involved with this first Socred regime. The only fault I can personally site with this book is that it might be too sympathetic, a point Mitchell even alludes too!
There is not much that this book misses out on. It starts literally at the beginning with W.A.C.'s start in New Brunswick, the move to Alberta and the starting of the first hradware strore, and then the final move to the Okanagan where Bennett was to become involved in politics, leading a rather obscure existence (with a few failures along the way) before he finally bolted from the coalition government to start Social Credit in the early 1950s - a move which was decidely different than the grassroots movement of Social Credit in Alberta. Social Credit in B.C. would always be a top-down movement.
Regardless, this is an excellent piece of work and does much to shed some light on the political history of a province whose historiography has been woefully inadaquete in this area.
