Essential
I think anyone serious about Fireworks needs this Bible as a reference source. The index is excellent for looking up quick answers. Its a bit "design" challenged and if you have version 3 the major portion of the illustrations are the same.

You could learn Fireworks with this book if you are patient or have a lot of time, but its better suited as a reference book. The layout and order of things don't flow like a step by step, beginners book.

Don't get me wrong, this is an excellant book with a wealth of information. If you are looking for inspirational design ideas then this isn't it. There are some more advanced topics such as customizing Fireworks and a chapter on integrating Fireworks with Dreamweaver. Good value for the money. If you want to find info quick, this book fits the bill.

No nonsense in this one
I highly recommend this book! I like the way the author didn't waste my time trying to include little jokes to spice up the text. Every feature was covered in complete detail. I read the book from cover to cover and immediately became a master at using Fireworks 4. Previously, I had been using photoshop to make my web images and effects but since reading this bible book I haven't touched Photoshop. Fireworks is a great program and if you want to learn all of its capabilities then you should own and read the Fireworks 4 Bible.

Great Book
Great reference book. I think every function and aspect of FW is in here! I have already found out a lot of new things about FW from this book! Lots of great ideas too! There are not many FW 4 Books available, but this one is definitely worth a look!

Solid info that's hard to find elsewhere.
This book is not for the feint of heart, but if you are working on any kind of code fragment - HyperCard Externals, Photoshop Plugins, system extensions, control panels, list/control/window definitions, or QuickTime-style components - then there is certainly a gem or two in here for you. The book does need to be updated to reflect some changes in the Mac system architecture (e.g. the Code Fragment Manager for 68K), and the version of CodeWarrior included on the CD is multiple generations obsolete. But the actual source code and projects still contain many useful concepts.

Undertand the Mac OS as a Petri dish of collaborating code
This books shows how not everything running on your Mac is an application, and shows you the marvels of extensions, control panels, plugins, and the like. Whether you're a seasoned programmer who wants to know how to write a plugin to make PhotoShop do whatever you want it to, or you're an advanced user who wants to look at the inner workings of the Mac OS, this book is for you. It comes with a CD-ROM filled with sample code for every "living creature" described in the book, and with a lite version of CodeWarrior to get you started. In one word: great.

American Love Story
I was simply blown away by this book. A street wise Kid from Philly making it on his own and then winds up in one of the nation's tragic wars only to meet up with a country girl from North Carolina and they both somehow seem to make it all work out and raise a family and grow old together and remained in love for many many years. This book truly runs the gammets of emotions from Pride to anger to sadness. You can really see what an American Love Story this is. Whether it be children's book or A simple love story if it has a story to be written Joesph S Bonsall can surely write about it.

Enduring faith like none other
There's a song called "Whatever Happened To Old-Fashioned Love," that simply asks where the life-long commitment of a marriage has gone. All-too-easily, people who have one little problem simply give up. This story is for them.

This story is about two post-WW2 veterans who attempt to return to normal life after the war. Permanent scars, both physically and emotionally, never truely allow that to happen, but one thing gets them through these hard times. Love. A love like none other. Through trials that seem almost unbearable and too hard to overcome, G.I. Joe and Lillie persevered. They are true examples of the old saying, "all you need is love."

Joseph Bonsall's writing is superb, and this true story, while brand new, is old as time itself. No matter what came their way, they always had each other. That's all they needed.

This book is like a warm quilt!
When it is dark and stormy, nothing is more comforting than to be cocooned in a homemade quilt. A tapestry rich in tradition and assembled with love, a kaleidoscope of patterns and colors, it is an American art form. Wrapped in its warm embrace, its fabric surrounds us and soothes our spirits. By extension, the spirit of America is a tapestry woven by the stories of its people. Each person; each man, woman and child, has a chance to mold this nation. Some become distinguished men and women and make monumental contributions to government, the arts, and business. Others become scourges of society. Most will fall somewhere in between, neither famous nor infamous. But they build lives and legacies for themselves and for the generations that follow them. They are ordinary people who sometimes do extraordinary things. They face adversity and challenges and find a way to overcome them. Their faith in God is the cornerstone of their existence. They raise their children to be honest and to reach for the stars. They are far from perfect, but they do the best they can with what they have been given. And they love each other, no matter what. They are the threads that form the fabrics that produce the patterns of our national tapestry. GI Joe and Lillie are two of those threads. They represent, even in their imperfections, all that is good and right about our country; faith, honor, strength, values, and dreams. Their story, so eloquently chronicled, mirrors many of our own narratives. The details may be different, the patterns and colors may not be the same, but the fabric of their lives, the values that brought them through the rough times, are universal to most of us. And in today's times, when it is dark and stormy, and we need to feel protected, or even just encouraged, we need only wrap ourselves tightly in the legacy they helped create. Their "quilt" warms the heart, and yes, soothes the spirit, for it is rich in tradition and assembled with love. You will laugh and you will cry, but mostly you will be inspired and grateful for this story.

Citro Makes you Check Behind Yourself in the Woods
Citro's story The Gore is a masterpiece in itself. He once again combines folklore with the natural settings of Vermont to challenge your idea of a reality. Is there somebody out there??? He will heighten your suspense to a new level that you will not be able to sleep without reading this book!

I will be heard
This is one amazing book. It really gets you to think about every little thing around you. Is there someone out there just watching you? This is a great read for anyone. You won't be able to help to turn the next page. Great book. It was cool

Big Truck

the gore
This is a great original thriller/horror story. Citro again proves that he is at the top of the class in the horror field. This book (originally titled THE UNSEEN) does a great job describing this remote mountain region of Vermont.

The Best Book in the World. And I mean it.
A 10? Can't we go any higher? This book is definatley a 12. I cannot even explain how entertaining this book was, I have read it at least 6 times since I was given this book last March. I will only say that this is definatley one of those books that should be on the required reading lists for all schools. Overall I should say that this book is an all time best. Definate 12

Almost as good as the Necromennon
What can we say, obviously this is a book that any full-blodded American can relate to. I consider this book the finest example of pure literary skill at its finest. I especially enjoyed the chapter describing the fair as "rambunctiously Christian" with "people praising the lord at all corners". Chapter 9 says it all about the book in the 3 little words of "I love God", well, I love this book. The only reason I gave this book a 9 is because the forward by Paul Cruchow was not the best example of grammar that I would expect, even from my 3rd grade class, such phrases as "Yuck yuck, you'll love this book." and "Why if I knew how to write as good as Mr Amato I'd be a pure literary star, chuck full of star stuff, yup I wanna be like Amato, or as I like to call him, TAmato." I mean what kind of a run on no sense sentance is this? Well, I guess the rest of this book makes up for Paul's illiteracy. I would encourage the reading of this book to any person of any age. "The Great Jerusalem Artichoke Circus" is also makes a great gift. I thank Mr. Joseph A. Amato for this wonderful literary treat.

Understandable Kabbalistic teachings
This is one of the most straight forward texts on the workings of Kabbalism in print that I've read. The author methodically ascends the Tree of Life, stopping by each sefirot and describing its purpose and how it relates to the unfathomable One. The author describes each sefirot as a gate that leads to further understanding. Within each gate, the author pulls together many scriptures in support of his esoteric interpretation and his belief of how one can properly ascribe their prayers so that they are heard on high. Although not easy reading by today's standards, it certainly is much easier to comprehend than the Zohar for example and accessible to those with some patience. For those studying the history of Kabbalah, this text helps the reader understand the teachings and development of the Kabbalistic sect in and around the 13th century. However, this is certainly not an introductory text and should only be read after student has at least a rudimentary understanding of Kabbalism and an intermediate grasp of the Tanakh.

The Key to the Tree of Life
In this book, you can find all necessary explanation as to the mystical and symbolic meaning of the Sephiroth, given here as the Ten Names of the Most High, which are Gates ("Gates of Light") to spiritual enlightenment. It is essential for all practitioners of the Kabbalah.

Gates of Light
Translated in shockingly exoteric and readable fasion Gikatillia's "Shaareh Orah" uncovers the key's to the ten spheres. The book takes each of the ten and explicitly explains the name that it is attached to, and the cognomens that are used in reference to that sphere in the Tanakh. The book is eclipsed historicaly in importance by the Book of Splendor (Zohar), but it should not be overlooked. Indeed while the Zohar is hidden and recondite Gikatillia sets much of the same subject matter forth in clear 13th century philosophical style. A most important English translation of a classic Kabbalistic text.

Headlines IV: The Next Generation: More Out-Of-This-World Headlines from the Bestselling Series

Three and a half stars, really.
A funny book, typical of Jay Leno. Some of these headlines are typos (Ada Kring, 67-year old Orick resident, dies at age 94), some are simply indications of how strange the world we live in is (Arsonist elected fire department chief), and still others would only be minorly odd were it not for Leno's chirping from the peanut gallery (Condoms only work if used, study finds) (to which Leno's comment was, "Oh, sure, but who wants a used condom?"). Then again, some fit two or more of the above categories (Store clerk better after being shot) which is an odd enough phraseology on its own, but becomes even more bizarre when Leno chips in "I think if we knifed him, he might feel even better still."

If you like your humor sophisticated and mature, this book is not for you. But if you enjoy a bit of unreserved silliness with your humor, and appreciate plays on words, this book is good for more than a few chuckles.

Jay's Headlines books r so funny
when i first bought and read his first book of headlines, i was cracking up so much, i waityed for him to release his next books

FUNNY!
It will show you a world of messed up headlines. The pictures section had me rolling on the floor.

Heart of Darkness & Selections from the Congo Diary
Published in Digital by Modern Library ()
Authors: Joseph Conrad and Low
Amazon base price: $4.95
Average review score:

Inside the heart of darkness....
Heart of Darkness is a novel focused with strong imagery and the concepts of darkness and light as "darkness" is the heart of man while the "light" can be civilization as a whole. I found this book somewhat discriminating in the beginning but as a whole it has a very clear statement. I can see how it is one of the greatest novels but to me Marlow, the main character, has no character as he becomes obsessed with Kurtz and can instantly become him but does not. After finding what he is looking for, Marlow is still filled with the darkness. Even though I thought this book was somewhat interesting, I would not recommend it because I did not agree with Marlow's or maybe even Conrad's view of the Congo jungle and life in it with the darkness.

Heart of Darkness
Conrad is among the most influential writers of our time, and his masterwork Heart of Darkness proves this. The concepts introduced in this book laid the groudwork for a new outlook on humanity, and his predictions to modern society, specifically the business world, are unparalleled. Read this book and it will give you a new view on the world.

REALITY INTO FICTION
Joseph Conrad is NOT for everyone! So many people have had their attention-span shortened by MTV, Television and the Disney version of the TITANIC (hint... the boat doesn't sink and everybody erupts in a unrecorded song from MARY POPPINS), that people have forgotten how great it is to read a well written book with piercing insite, memorable characters, and a haunting theme. The skill of the true wordsmith has thanklessly fallen by the wayside, evidenced by the fact that Stephen King is considered a literary genius (see H.P. Lovecraft for a true genius in both word and plot). If we were to turn off the electronics and allow our pure powers of imagination to work, then Conrad would be abundant treat to our senses. All of his books are fantastic, but HEART OF DARKNESS holds a special fascination for most people who read it. Not to digress, but the Turner Production of "Heart of Darkness" with Tim Roth is very good and I have always loved "Apocolypse Now" (saw it 15 times in the theater). The story is a journey of the soul, as much as it is pure adventure. It is a wake-up call for those who have forgotten what it is to care and become aware of how their lives move forward (and sometimes don't). The setting of a forgotten Africa, wedged and pierced by European superpowers is both mysterious and frightening. We see this now-lost land through the eyes of a naive man, not grounded nor necessarily wise in the ways of the world. The opening reference of the French warship bombarding the forrested coasts shows the overall blindness of the countries who seek to reap the wealth of the land's bounty... throwing artillery shells onto the coast and cannot see if they are hitting anything! The river and its trading stations connect the European desire for money and profit and the harsh reality of the Africa they cannot explain. The mission is to reach the elusive Kurtz, a brilliant mind and man who has been silenced. Now the Naive agent seeks the worldly-wise man who Africa has driven mad! What I loved about the journey is Conrad's ability to chronicle not only the countryside but the people who are drawn into this lust for ivory and money. In this case, the journey is the deal. What this edition gives us is a wonderful addition... Conrad's real-life experiences as the short-lived captain of a steam boat in the Congo. At the time, Conrad considered himself more of a sailor than a novelist, and his notations reflect the factual and relatively dull specifics of his duties. Still, one gets an acute sense of how his mind works and (later) how he turned these terse, and unexciting notes into possibly one of the greatest short stories in the history of the English Language. HEART OF DARKNESS can be a matter of patience. It does not move quickly, in places, but if one slows down and allows the story to stimulate, and inform, then it is time well spent! There is time for video stimulation (TV, VHS, etc) and there is time to find an overstuffed chair and allow the best film maker ever made, your own mind, to transport you to a place long burned away by commercial interests and "progress". Take the journey and let your soul speak back to you afterwards!

A look at how Marlow saw the mistreatment of natives.
This book is an example of how natives are mistreated. It also show what happens to people put in certain environments and around certain people. It was not as exiting as I had been told and I found it hard to understand, but it is a good book.

One of my favorites
How can an author who did not begin to learn english until he was twenty have such control over the language? Like Joyce, and other masters of the English language, Conrad can at times be difficult to read, and confusing to follow, but underneath the complex exterior is a powerful tale that has the potential to give you a deeper appreciation for literature and maybe even for life.

Although the book has been called both racist and sexist, I do not believe that this is the case. I believe Conrad illustrates the feelings and "the horror" of the time as only a master artist could. If you read the novel, do not do so looking to label it as racist or sexist, but rather look at it as an attempt to bring light upon the oppresion of both non whites and women that was taking place at the time. Is the "heart of darkness" really the African jungle and its people as one might naturally assume, or did Conrad want to ironicly portray the colonist, the white europeans, to be the true savages, the true heart of darkness? There are many questions in this book, and it would be impossible to read the novel without finding yourself moved.

Only for the worthy
This is a great book. The publisher does a great job explaining the metaphors that would be impossible otherwise. but, if you are the kind of reader that reads only words, not comprehending them and reading between the lines, like trying to see what marlow was trying to say, then this book is too advanced for you and you will not enjoy it or learn from it. Be sure you can understand hard books or else the meaning and the time you took to read this will be useless and wasted.
