I thought this book was bloody boring.
I really didn't like this book much because although the beginning and the middle were pretty good, the ending was terrible. It just ended without much idea about what was going on, or what would happen. The author could have made it a bit more interesting. I really wouldn't recommend this book to anyone, unless they are really interested in ESP, or telling the future. That's why i give this book 3 stars.

Impressions of Cuba in the Nineteenth Century: The Travel Diary of Joseph J. Dimock (Latin American Silhouettes (Cloth))

Yankee's-eye view of colonial Cuba
This diary is valuable as a record of the assumptions and, frankly, prejudices of a New England Yankee looking at Cuba in the age of manifest destiny. Dimock assumes that Cuba belongs in the expanding domain of the United States. He speaks of the characteristics of the various racial groups on the island, all of which, he is quite clear, are inferior to his own Anglo-Saxon stock. He enjoys himself in Cuba, but is not a well behaved guest, occasionally staging little confrontations. His attempt to transcribe Spanish words is ludicrous (e.g., "jorchata" becomes "orcharda"). All in all, it's a candid record made without self-consciousness, but it is most useful to someone who already knows a good deal about Cuba. I would give the book a higher grade if it had included some background material, or at least some notes correcting Dimock's bad Spanish.

Introduction to Governmental and Not-for-Profit Accounting
I would rate this book very highly for the non-accounting professional. The book takes the high level of technical terms and reduces it so that it is user friendly for all groups of business professionals.

I would strongly recommend this book to those readers who have a basic understanding of governmental accounting.

Basic, beginners text
This book is a good place to start learning about digital electronics and microprocessors. I was a little disappointed with it, in that the text wasn't as "deep" as I would have liked. I'd say this would be a great text for a high school based introductory course on microprocessors and digital electronics.

Another Spark Of Light
The Irish American Family Album provides in it's too few pages, a spark of light on the intensely emotional history of Ireland and her children. One could hardly expect an absolute, exhaustive description of the countless people or events that are associated with this topic, yet everyone of Irish descent that I have shared this book with responds to it that same way. They slowly turn the pages with great anticipation. Always hoping that the next page shall help shed more light on their personal family's history of exil from Ireland to a new life here in America. I have even witnessed a tear from time to time in the eyes of these readers. It has been said that we are now witnessing a renaissance of the Celtic spirit and culture. If this is true, then much thanks is due to books such as The Irish American Family Album. For this book and others like it shall be the tools of education for our younger generations. They help to reveal and preserve our culture and history, a history so vast and long that it spands well into the darkness of time. Therefore, every spark of light is a true blessing.

The Irish Male at Home and Abroad
Published in Paperback by Minerva Books (January, 1996)
Author: Joseph O'Connor

Used price: $7.95

Witty articles and interviews.
Joseph O'Connor is the brother of Sinead O'Connor the Irish singer / songwriter (Lion and Cobra), but is an artist in his own right. His fiction is wild and hilarious and well worth a read. Before he went into fiction he was a newspaper columnist in London and Dublin and this is a collection of interviews and articles edited into book form. As a result they cover a lot of ground and a lot of issues, with some being a little out of date at this stage. However it makes a good book for picking up and reading a couple of pages and putting down again - what some people refer to as toilet reading. The highlight is coverage he did when the Irish played in the Soccer World Cup in USA when he follows a group of inebriated fans through the Disney experience in Florida. Cross cultural limits are exposed as he explores the difference in meaning of the words ride and mickey between Ireland and the USA. Another memorable tale is the Irish beggar in London who is pretending to be a Bosnian -everyone needs an edge these days!

Good but not memorable
There are very many commentaries on Isaiah, ranging from the useless to the excellent. This commentary is probably above average. It has the advantage of being bang up to date, but nothing much else to distinguish it from the pack. It treats the first 39 chapters (the so-called First Isaiah) as a reasonably united work, not trying to tear it into pieces and assign it to several different authors as some commentators have done, but not ruling out subsequent revisions and editorial adjustment.

i have seen the wind, and it's cold enough for me
this book opens with blackwood's great story: the wendigo. B is the master of the setting, noone can create the background and atmosphere like him. a very well written story from Brennan here. and Meloff's story is also an interesting read. derleth is at his best here. i don''t care that much for the guy, have never considered him to be HPL's great successor or anything, but he knows how to write, and i have always considered his story about Ithaqua to be his best contribution. the rest of the stories are well written. i don't think any of chaosium's anthologies contains of so much good writing than this. but good is not great. and the rest of the stories never turns out to be really good. the suspence killed by irrelevant writing going on for too long, mostly. sad. but the book is still wort reading
