Among my 20+ grilling cookbooks, this is the one to which I always turn when I want to put something good on the table with a minimum of fuss. Joe Bonanno shares with us his experience as a firehouse chef, and that of a number of other firefighters from around the country, in this remarkably good basic book. The recipes are straightforward, using ingredients that are readily available in most places. His chapters on grilling basics and safety tips are very helpful. The collection of marinade recipes is one of the best, and widest-ranging, to be found in the galaxy of grillbooks. The "Mexican Cerveza and Cilantro" marinade contributed by Richard Duden, an NYC Ladderman, is terrific; to get real flavor, be sure to use a lager (Bohemia and Dos Equis come to mind) as called for, not some thin swill like Corona. While one might assume that a firehouse cookbook would focus on beef and pork, the recipes for grilled veggies, fish, shellfish, lamb, chicken, and turkey are varied and uniformly excellent. There are a number of tasty salsa and salad recipes as well. The publisher has made this a particularly useable book by essentially eliminating the bad page turns that plague many otherwise good grill books (notably those of the Jamisons) and by including clear step-by-step instructions for taking the user from prep to palate. (Who really wants to deal with page turns when one's hands have marinade, sauce, or whatever on them?). Joe's Healthy Firehouse Cookbook is also highly recommended.

Don't even bother with another civ pro supplement, this is the beginning and the end. All you need, right here, don't even buy his book, just outline these tapes.

It's always assumed that there were no observant Jews in America prior to the great Eastern European migration that began in the 1880's. Rabbi I. Harold Sharfman, the author of "Jews on the Frontier" and the founder of the "Half-Moon K" Kashrut Organization, has gathered a sampler of sermons, journals and synagogue records to show the rise of Reform and the resistance of Orthodox Judaism from 1840 to 1860. The only flaw I could find in this book is the lack of footnotes, although if citations had been included the book would be much longer than 750 pages! Nevertheless I highly recommend this to anyone who is studying the history of Judaism in America.

This is a massive book with 718 pages. Almost 2" THICK!! It weighs about 6 lbs. Written by Joseph Bates around 1972, this is a dark blue clothbound, hardcover OUTDOOR LIFE book published by Dutton. Its DJ is in ... condition, but the pages and the rest are in superb shape. Has color photos of lures and lots of B & W and color photography of fishing scenes from many great spots! Great guide to tackle and tactics for fresh and salt water. AN all around great guide for that avid outdoorsman, who's not happy unless he's around water waiting for that next fish to rise.

This book is unusual. It was written by a Protestant minister from England and he said that the rosary should be recited by all Christians and not only by Catholic Christians. Protestants do not say the rosary. The rosary is and always been a R. Catholic devotion....... in honor of the Mother of God.

The most memorable lines from my first read of this smart work are from the second sermon, first page, quoted as follows: "A man can as little doubt whether his eyes were given him to see with, as he can doubt of the truth of the science of optics deduced from ocular experiments. And allowing the inward feeling, shame, a man can as little doubt whether it was given him to prevent his doing shameful actions, as he can doubt whether his eyes were given him to guide his steps. And as to these inward feelings themselves - that they are real..."

I enjoyed reading this book. I was able to sense the enthusiasm of the author as he oulined FIVE well-defined steps to success. It is loaded with inspiration! The testimonies throughout this book helped to charge me up as well. I think that students from middle school to adulthood will truly benefit from this work. Although I am already in the work world, I am constantly doing various courses to upgrade my skills. This book has truly motivated me to continue to strive for excellence in academia. I believe this book will inspire others to continue their academic pursuits and propel those who want to improve in school.

The author has made a complex subject highly accessable. Not as overbearing as other texts I've read on the subject, this book is logical in its organiztion and has good graphics to aid in understand the concepts laid out in the text.

The story of George Bush's WWII service as a naval pilot. During the war Bush was the youngest Navy pilot to earn his wings. Shot down by the Japanese, he was later rescued by an American submarine and spent several weeks on board as it completed its combat patrol. Also talks about his romance with the future Mrs. Bush.

The problems and their solutions presented in this book are essential for the understanding of the fundamental laws and effects in fluid mechanics. They make it easy to students to understand the laws and their application to real problems.
