"Avenging, its permanence, a
place stuffs time with a tenant, a lodger--
with a life-form, and throws up the latch."
Though sometimes distant, To Urania manages to do what the best of poetry does...it reaches across time and culture to speak to hearts today.

The examples of challenges are good (although somewhat repetetive) and he proposes some spiritual solutions to these challenges.
Overall, a nice read

It is true that in comparison with other more famous authors of the era (such as Willa Cather) his achievement is insignificant. This is a shame because Tubal Cain, a story of the development of the Pennsylvania iron industry, contains some very good writing and some very effective storytelling. Unfortunately Hergesheimer did not have the skill to effectively make use of his strengths. Tubal Cain is very frustrating in that the strong storyline is abruptly terminalted. (Its as if an eight month gestation is abruptly aborted when the mother and child seemed to be in perfect health). The plot is developing very well, when the author inexplicably terminates the story in a very unsatisfactory fashion. I was enjoying the story, despite its flaws, and felt very short changed by the ending.
Its a pity the old movie also seems to be unavailable on video or DVD - it would be good to see it again.
Quite a good read, but with some frustrating flaws.

However, it's not a book with picutres of the guts of the camrea like I thought it would be. I thought it would be more about "how it works" and "how the parts have changed" and gotten smaller, that it is NOT!
It's well done, there is alot more reading, then I thought there would be. This is a book for an avid reader, someone doing a report, teaching a class, or a student of the camera/film industry, or someone wanting to know more about the "individualS" (not nessecarily the actual inventor) that brought this invention to the world and it's people. It's more a High School level read then it is for upper elementary (which I bought it for).

Its a great way to understand the changing times and the development of the role of the principal reflects the changes in the school community.
The authors have studied the history of the roles of principals over the decades. An in-depth analysis has been made using metaphorical themes that were used over h decades to describe the changing roles of principals. As the analysis continues, themes and patterns were discovered in the language people used to describe principals. Each decade is explained interestingly and the metaphors used portray a logical explanation. In the twenties for example, much of the work focused on spiritual values; in the thirties on business-like efficiency in schools; in the forties the focus was on the principal's role in war and post war efforts; in the fifties , the maintenance of established patterns seemed important; in the sixties, the major emphasis was on conflict; in the seventies on negotiation and in the eighties on change.
Very well written and although rich in literiture review, it is interesting to read and different!
Compared to other textbook of similar size, such as Davidson's, it lacks concise review of important anatomy and physiology, detailed explanation of pathophysiology, colourful illustrations, and useful tables. These drawbacks make it too difficult for medical students starting clinical practice to read and understand, and too brief for doctors to look up detailed description and explanation.
However, it contains many useful diagnostic criteria and practical management guidelines, which are useful for final-year students and even junior doctors. Moreover, its concise descriptions of disease makes it appropiate for examinations.
