The Investment Train: Choosing the Right Track to Retirement

Excellent Selection
I really enjoyed reading 'The Investment Train'. Its a fast read, very informational and extremely helpful in explaining the 'need to know' facts for personal investing. It gives a great deal of food for thought and practical advice on what to do with your money.
I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a way to cut through the clutter and get some good, solid, easy to understand information.

Great Information!
The Investment Train: Choosing the Right Track to Retirement really was helpful to me and my husband. We are in our 50s and were looking for something more than just your basic, run of the mill advice. This book offered the back-to-basics information we needed, but took things a step further to allow us to learn more and add to our basic knowledge.

If you enjoy doing your own investing, there is enough information here to help you with that -- and, if you have a financial adviser and just want to learn more about what he/she does, this book also is extremely helpful. The book also provides insight on minimizing tax implications, proper insurances and strategies for withdrawing money from a retirement account.

I plan on trying to get in touch with the author to discuss our retirement plans.

A must read for all!
This book breaks down the complexity of financial planning. Mr. Curatolo is wonderful at explaining and teaching the basics of creating a plan. This book features many visuals including charts, graphs and examples that help you see the end result. Myself being a beginner, this book really helped to show me where my money should be in order to achieve the best results according to my goals, risk and my stage in life. Mr. Curatolo is very detailed when it comes to the courses we should stay on and when the best time is to stop and re-evaluate. A must read for anyone wanting to know more about how their money will work best for them!

Beautiful, spare, moving ....
I read this book several years back and loved it. Recently, it came to mind again and I had to hunt it down. I was lucky enough to find a signed first edition. This story is so simple and heartfelt. The story of two men, their relationship, their friends and keen, sweet observations of their friend's relationships. The tragedy is unexpected and deepy moving. Davis prose is so captivating that I really felt as if I was there. Actually, I wanted to be there. I wanted to help these people and spend a sunny afternoon having cocktails on beach with them. I really do not want to say much about the story, it needs to be experienced by the reader. If you can find this and take the journey, you will be rewarded for your effort.

Simple, Powerful, Compelling
Christopher Davis is one of those authors who is not praised nearly loudly or often enough, and whom I discovered by accident. I first read his work in Men on Men. His short story in that collection, "The Boys in the Bars," is also the title of his own short story collection that came later.

Joseph and the Old Man is easily read in one sitting. it is reminiscent in many ways of Isherwood's A Single Man.

Joseph is the much-younger lover of a famous author whom he calls "The Old Man," and in this chapter-less story, it turns out to be the Old Man's story, but told in the third person. How they met, how they love each other, and how they become the center of a loving circle of friends on Fire Island, and what happens when tragedy (sudden, and not AIDS) strikes, is told with stunning simplicity. I read this book in two days. It was hard to put down.

A beautiful story
I read this book a few years ago but the bittersweet emotions it evoked in me still echo in my heart. Even today I can feel the warmth of the relationship between the Joseph and the Old Man as clearly as if they were my dearest friends. The ending of the novel, both ambiguous and haunting, is one of my favorite literary passages.

Great Book
It's so incredible that both their names and their wives names are identical and their views are so far apart.

Great book with great views

Joseph Lieberman is a Pious Liberal and Other Observations
This book aims to speak the truth. It is written with great insight an honesty exposing political double talk. The author has a great understanding of the issues discussed and brings them forth with warmth and humor. I highly recommend this title for all, for or against.

An enjoyable read, and a real Eye-Opener!
Joseph (not the Senator by the way,) tells it like it really is, in his well researched and detailed essays on the political slants of Senator Joseph Lieberman. Don't be fooled by the lies of 'the conscience of the senate' - read this book!

I plan on reading this book over and over again!
I bought this book because I was interested in the Lakota way of life, and their belief system. Not only was I enlightened in that aspect, but I gained some insight into the kind of life that I want to live, and the person I want to be. Joseph M. Marshall III, does more than simply list the qualities that are important to the Lakota people. He draws the reader a picture of each quality with stories that have been passed down to him through his family. Not only do these stories show that strength and tenacity of the Native American People through all their hardship at the hands of the whites, but they show people overcoming human weaknesses, and their lives being richer and happier for it. Marshall also describes the outcome of the Native American struggle against the whites differently than I've ever heard it described, that the Native people in this country were never defeated! Through everything the whites put them through, they emerged whith a strong sense of where they came from and where they are going. I highly recommend this book.

Must Read
this is one of the most enlightening books about not only the native path but everyday interaction. I purchased the book and have re-read and re-read. For those of native heritage it quietly and forcefully moves you to reawaken your heritage and for others shares insight into our beliefs. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to live a better life.

Lila waste!
If I were still teaching my native language: Lakota, I would use this book in my classroom. I recommend this book to all of my family and friends. It is a must for all, especially to my people as a lot of us need to relearn these ways or to learn them new! I have read "Dance House" also and can only applaud Mr. Marshall for his great writing. Pilamayaye ksto!

A good path to physical optics and imaging theory
This book is cleary written. The basic theory of Fourier transform is included too. Fourier optics is a very strong tool in imaging and optics. I would say Goodman is an enginnering guy, but some physical insight is not very clear. Diffraction theory is easier to understand than J.D. Jackson's E&M. And the whole book is easier to read than Born and Wolf's Principle of Optics and has more details. After all, it is a good book for Fourier opitcs. But the price is too high.

optics
I am study to work with optical design programs Zemax. I wonna know theory to use in this programme. my e-mail: all_ladis@ipm.lviv.ua

Clearly the Best Fourier Optics Book
Joseph Goodman has done a stellar job of clearly presenting concepts AND mathematical background. There is an excellent mix of straightforward theory and practical uses of Fourier Optics. The chapter problems are very challenging but insightful. This is the best optics book I have ever read.

One of the Better ODE Texts
This book was used in my "Introduction to Ordinary Differential Equations" class when I was a senior at Louisiana State. I found it to be one of the better texts in differential equations that I have come across. The first chapter is mainly the prerequisite calculus, then the next chapter jumps into first order equations. Then unlike most other books, he jumps straight into second order problems. the biggest plus in the book is the ready use of complex analysis throughout, something which most books avoid altogether, thus allowing the student to get only a partial understanding of the theory needed to solve more advanced problems. Answers are included at the back of the book, problems are clear and well-explained, and there are enough advanced topics covered later in the book (including celestial mechanics) to keep the course interesting for students of all kinds.

A great Introduction or review.
I took an undergraduate ordinary differential equations class and felt I grasped the subject quite well. I wanted an inexpensive text that I could review the subject with and I decided that I would give Coddington's book a try. I was really pleased with the order in which the text was presented which differed from the course I had taken. The author's seem to put things in a very logical order versus some texts I have seen which really confuse you by the order in which the subjects are presented. Another point that I have to make is the depth that the book has. I learned much more in reviewing this text than I ever did in any diff eq class. It shows the distinction between linear and non-linear diff eq's and covered many other methods which I had not learned previously. This is a great text as a "refresher" or as a course text. I just wish I would have previously used this text to learn ordinary differential equations.

Holy Bible for Introduction to differential equations UG
This book is a holy bible for introduction to differential equations. It is easy to understand and the problems are quite challenging. Dr Coddington knows how to explain the material by systematically order(Easy to tough). His book is not easy to figure out if you just sit without paper, pen and think. But once you are understand his book, no one can teach you differential equations for undergarduate level. Other suggested reading are Theory of ordinary differential equations, Linear ordinary differential equations by Earl Coddington(Both of them), Ordinary Differential Equations by Fritz John, and Ordinary Differential Equations by Edward L Ince. Once the most important statement is: YOU KNOW DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS IF YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT IS GOING ON IN CODDINGTON'S AND FRITZ JOHN BOOKS.

History and Historians
This book was very good. I have read a few books on Ireland and this is now one of my favorites. It is not only a good read (how could interesting history not be?!?!), but is also a good reference book to look up facts about Irish history. Particularly interesting were the sections on the various interpretations of Irish history. I didn't realize that people's different ideas about Irish history influenced their political and social opinions so much. At times, though, I thought that maybe historians are too interested in the work of each other. Each chapter has three or four pages on interpretations. This is a good thing, but, if I wasn't interested in the particular topic, I found that I wasn't interested in the interpretations either. But, overall, this is really good history, it seems to me.

An Engaging History
As a teacher and writer whose work is primarily limited to literary studies, I found this text exceptionally helpful in its integration of accessible historical scholarship and incisive commentary on cultural and social contexts. Coohill successfully enables his reader to understand the complexity and instability of political and cultural identities, particularly as they reveal themselves in twentieth century Ireland. And while the expansive history has exceptional breadth, Coohill skillfully explicates the intricacy and depth of historical and cultural interpretations of critical historical moments. I recommend this text to anyone interested in learning more about the fascinating interplay between Irish culture and history.

great book
Great book. Easy to read and understand. Explains Irish history pretty good. But it's not boring because he talks about ways that people see Irish history. Taught me a lot about Ireland and Northern Ireland. Highly recommended. Good gift too (that's how I got it). - Johnny Fitz!

generally well done
The other reviewers describe this as a fine outline of Jewish views on a variety of matters, and I agree. One caveat: the last 100-200 pages (which focus on the Holocaust and Israel) are essentially a description of Jewish history rather than Jewish ideas, so I thought they belonged in another book. (In fact, I suspect that they overlap considerably with Telushkin's Jewish Literacy, which I also recommend).

Best Book on Judiasm I ever Read
I love reading and this book is one of the best ones I have ever read. It teaches the heart and essence of Judiasm on a vast amount of topics. What a wonderful book!

Excellent Anecdotes And Commentary
This book contains many excellent anecdotes and commentary from some of the greatest Jewish thinkers of all time. Topics covered in this book range from the Holocaust, to anti-Semitism, to Philo-Semitism, to modern issues like abortion. The book is excellently written and is a must-have in any Jewish library. It allows the reader to understand a complex and fascinating religion through wonderfully told stories and commentary.

The Next Indiana Jones
I am one that gets caught up in a book so if the pace is fast, I'm turning the pages as quickly as I can! "Laws of the Jungle" is no exception to this. I love the jungle scene where they're whipping through on the wires. That was breathless! It's got everything: adventure (danger, mystery, intrigue), romance (gotta have some mushy stuff but doesn't overdo it), and a great ecological slant. Hopefully something like this couldn't really happen in real life. What will Hemm & Kohari's next big adventure be? I'll be one of the first to buy & read on!

A Page-Turner
Action and adventure from the get-go, leaving you with a strong curiosity about the state of things. You just get the sense that something is wrong in the world. Scenes are set in the beautiful rain forests of the world. The author depicted these places beautifully and unobtrusively for my mind's eye. Immediately, the story introduces some very strong characters, clearly establishing good and evil. Get ready for the unexpected twist at the end, which will make you wonder about a lot of things in life. These strong characters begin to develop an unexpected, and imaginative theme. I won't tell you about it in order to save the end surprise. I travel a bit and I read it on the airplane. I couldn't put it down. I even waited until all the other passengers were off the plane before I got off just so I could finish a chapter. Pete Engstrom, Santa Fe, New Mexico

Great Adventure Novel
Laws of the Jungle is a fast paced adventure novel whose author has done a great deal of research into the subject. His hero,Hemmingway Lawson, is an exciting and vital character. The descriptions of the jungle and some of the action scenes bring you right into the story. Hope another book by Mr. Noble is in the works.

Arewethereyet? Arewethereyet? Arewethereyet? Arewethereyet?
Going to Lincoln Park for the first time (in the early 70's) was one of the best family outtings we ever had. We were there as part of a special Polaroid day, and the special "Polaroid passes" we had tied to our wrists allowed us kids to ride on everything in the park for only 50 cents!

Unlike the modern theme parks, we were allowed to bring in our own food. Dad set up a home base in the picnic area where he cooked hamburgers and hot dogs on a portable grill. The folks spent all day chatting with the other Polaroid employees while us kids went nuts all around the park (I was still young enough to enjoy the colorful rides in Kiddie Land, yet old enough for most of the adult rides (except the big Coaster...!)). That day started a yearly tradition (either going with the Polaroid group or on my birthday in July). But, 30 years later the park is gone (and Polaroid pretty much is too!)....

This book really brings back a lot of memories! You'll re-discover attractions you may have forgotten about, and you'll learn quite a bit about the park. It has a lot of pictures and you'll go through this book very quickly!

Overall, the book is a treat, but you'll find yourself wishing it was longer. It leaves you hungering for a bit more. I would have liked it to include pictures of *all* the attractions, and maybe an overhead plan/map of the park. (It was kind of hard trying to picture where everything used to be located.) But, this is the only aspect of the book that I found was lacking.

I'm really glad I bought this book, and if you have a Lincoln Park story to tell, you'll be glad you did too! You'll then be compelled to write about what the park meant to you! (We should turn these review pages into "Lincoln Park Remembered - Part 2"!)

So Much I Didnt Know
I have missed Lincoln Park so much since it's demise. I was so afraid this wonderful place would be lost forever. To see it come to life again in this book brought back so many happy memories. My grandfather used to take my brother and I every Wednesday during the summer. The pictures and stories stirred memories, smells, sounds, and smiles long forgotten. If you ever had the privilege of going you would also enjoy locating the video "Lincoln Park Remembered", with photographs and film clips. How nice to be able to step through the gates again!

Sometimes you can go home
Lincoln Park Remembered is one of those special books that from the moment you receive it you just know you will never part with it. The publisher was able to obtain hundreds of remarkable photographs from members of the community who wanted very much to see that very special place honored and remembered. I remember long Summer days spent there as a child with my parents and grand parents and how everyone was able to find things to do that suited them to a T. This book is like a personal photo album and I look forward to introducing and sharing Lincoln Park with my daughter, who will just have to trust me when I tell her the place was holy.
