Intro to Science Dream
I am teaching Physical Science, an intro to science freshman course, at a high school in NH. I asked my students to find some information on who discovered the parts of the atom for homework. Most of my students didn't have much success with the internet, their science text book, or other text books. However, one of my students brought in this book. It had a full page on the information that I was looking for, plus other references on other aspects of the atom. The atom wasn't the only topic that I was impressed with. In general it contains an excellent, basic description of most fundamentals of science. For a teacher that is trying to find new ways of presenting information, it is truely a find. It is also a great companion for the student that might have a little trouble in the sciences. There are wonderful, full-color illustrations to accompany simple, yet well written and content filled text. In short, I was very impressed with this book. Not to mention the author was also involved in another of my favorite books "The Way Things Work". If I could require this book for my students, and reccommend it to all science teachers, I would.

A valuable treatment...
of a major topic too little known in the history of logic. Few authors have the linguistic know- ledge for a balanced account of Chinese logic, both native and Buddhist, as well as the necessary comparisons with Indian and Greek traditions. It would be ungrateful nit-picking to find the author's handling of the relation between language and reasoning unsatisfying in a work which will stand as the major orientation for future study.

Outstanding Resource
This book should be included on every neurologist's shelf, and also provides insights useful to any molecular biologist. Edited by the esteemed Dr. Joseph B. Martin, co-editor of the gold standard of medical textbooks, Harrison's Textbook of Internal Medicine, it is clear that the clarity of that text is due in no small part to its editing. Martin also provides extremely useful "next steps" in his unique section that follows the texts written by other pre-eminent neurologists such as Dr. Anne Young and scores of others from Harvard Medical School, and Dr. Stephen Hauser and other former colleagues of Dr. Martin's at UCSF. This is an absolute must read.

The Seasons of a Woman's Life
It is hard to believe that Dr. Godat is man because this
book is so insightful into what women think and feel.
I garnered a new understanding of what I am experiencing
today as a woman and a good understanding of what to expect
down the road.

I garnered a new understanding of what I am experiencing
today as a woman and a good understanding of what to expect
down the road.
I especially enjoyed the real life stories as they
dispersed a lot of information in a personal, easy to
relate to way.
I highly recommend this book, to both women and men,
as it helps to clarify many questions about why
women feel and act the way we do.

A literary collection of angling stories and memoirs.
Seasons of the Angler includes short stories, essays and memoirs by many of our country's most celebrated writers. Stories cover numerous forms of angling, from fly fishing for selective trout and salmon in New England and the West to bait fishing for catfish in the Southwest. When this collection first came out in 1988, the NEW YORK TIMES called it "... the best fishing collection to appear in at least a decade." Said Tom Rosenbauer of the Orvis Company, "Seasons of the Angler is the best fishing anthology I've ever read..." Fly Rod and Reel's Silvio Calabi said, "Seasons of the Angler is a literary gin and tonic..." Authors included are: Tom McGuane, Jim Harrison, Charles Gaines, David Quammen, Bill Barich, Tom Williams, Vance Bourjaily, Russ Chatham, Richard Ford, Ray Carver, Rip Torn, Robert Traver, P. J. O'Rourke, Robert F. Jones and others.

An excellent primer to an interesting unsolved mystery!
Most biblical scholars today have concluded that St. John of Zebedee did NOT write the Gospel in the New Testament which bears his name. These scholars assert that the Gospel of John was authored by an ANONYMOUS follower of Jesus referred to within its text as "the disciple whom Jesus loved." No name is given for this disciple. Grassi does an excellent job of summarizing all of the main issues involved in the attempt to identify the author of the Fourth Gospel. He treats this topic with the importance that it deserves. Who is the Beloved Disciple of the Fourth Gospel? The Gospel cites this disciple as the primary eyewitness to the events it describes. The Gospel also repeatedly refers to this disciple as the one whom Jesus loved the most. Yet, the NAME of this disciple seems to have been intentionally omitted from the text. ...Why?If you are looking for a concise, well-written, thoroughly-researched introduction to this most intriguing mystery -- I highly recommend this book.
