very heavy stuff!
this work is typical fitzmyer. in case you don't know, he is a jesuit priest who is perhaps the MOST learned theologian on the continent. his writings are centrist in stance, although it is hard to deduce because he writes in a very detached way. this book is really a group of separate essays dealing with various NT topics. in general his style is scholarly and sometimes hard to follow. i have occasionally been frustrated by him because after reading an essay one knows more facts but still doesn't have the impression that he is leading one to a given posiiton. for example, he wrote an essay on the possibilies of the virgin birth. it was quite thorough and educating, but i still don't know what his opinion is! raymond brown wrote from a similar stance and on similar material but is more personal in his style - occasionally letting his faith shine through.

Transcription factors
A well organized book about one of the most vital topics in molecular biology. Although the book is very concise in certain topics; like RNA polymerases, chrmatin remodeling, but I find it, generally, up to date in references and covers most recent topic in gene expression.
We wish to find a chapter about different eukaryotic RNA polymerases and their transcription factors in next edition especially the title of the book is transcription factors.

From the Heart of A Christmas Carol
Joe Cusumano. Transforming Scrooge: Dickens' Blueprint for a Spiritual Awakening. Minneapolis: Llewellyn Publications, 1995.

A distinction should be made between the actual story of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and the interpretation of the story, the Carol "canon" (from the word measurement). The story is there for us, unchanged, to be read year after year, but the fit, the measurement of the Carol's meaning is constantly changing. Joe Cusumano provides a creative and inspiring measurement for Dickens' famous tale, as well as placing the original story in the appendix.

While acknowledging the traditional meanings of the story and providing an excellent historical background, Cusumano filters A Christmas Carol through the novel lens of spiritual experiences and Clinical Psychology. Disconcerting as his suggestions are to the standard literary approach, Cusumano in Transforming Scrooge opens the story up to fresh and vital interpretation. It is difficult to envision the 19th Century Father of Christmas, Charles Dickens, as having nightly visitations by the greys and blacks of sci-fi fame, but the parallels between his ghosts and modern accounts of close encounters are startlingly similar. The bright light and chaotic effect of the Ghost of Christmas Past mirrors the kind of psychological experience as recorded in movies such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Fire in the Sky.

Ebenezer undoubtedly needed a psycho-spiritual jolt to rock him from his heartless materialism. The use of fantasy literary technique allowed Charles Dickens to condense a complex, long process into a single evening. Alien abduction and Near Death experiences have the same intensive effect. Leaving aside the literal proof or validation of such experiences, Cusumano focuses on their transformative effects, showing how human hearts can be softened when open to the healing imagery of life review, in depth perception of reality and prophetic warning.

Scrooge is revolutionized both from within and without in A Christmas Carol. Transforming Scrooge compares Scrooge's experience to that of one undergoing counselling. Releasing repression, built up pockets of energetic resistance located in the chakra points, according to Kundalini yoga, allowed Scrooge to change from being "as solitary as an oyster" into being "the Father of Tiny Tim." Cusumano, using a variety of therapeutic metaphors, shows how the release might take place in us modern Scrooges.

Released from the bondage of blockage, Scrooge discovered the roots of his own miserliness in the abuse that he suffered as a child at the hands of his perfectionistic father. Uncovering his own pain, he was prepared for the prophetic statement of the Ghost of the Future who predicted the social effects of child hatred on society. "Beware of Want and Ignorance!" is a mantra for the new millennium, as much as for the Industrial Revolution. The way we treat the child is the litmus test of our society; the havoc we inherit through street gangs, thugs and dictators is the price we pay for our treatment of the innocent.

The Goodnews of A Christmas Carol is that doom is not inevitable but that an openness to the spiritual and psychological experiences of healing can sponge away the death knell of our insensitivity. As Cusumano says, "Dickens was letting us know that this is not really just a Christmas Story. More importantly, it is an Easter Story, one of resurrection." The measure of A Christmas Carol for our lives is the extent to which we participate in this heart opening resurrection. Transforming Scrooge by Joe Cusumano speaks to the heart from the heart of that message.

Transmigration Solo
Good for the hardcore Ceravolo fan or the uninitiated. Reminds me of hallucinations rendered with the realist's paintbrush. The title poem of the book is evocative of Mexico, where the Ceravolo lived in l960

Almost as good as there
Rich, beautiful photographs are a trademark of Arizona Highways travel guides and Stocker's book is no exception. It will not disappoint. The photographic tours give you a real feel for the land and will help you focus (or perhaps expand) your trip. And if you can't find the time or money to actually get down to Arizona for a while this is almost as good as being there.

Informative
In this book, Joe listed any stream with a hint of limestone. He gave honest descrtipions, if there were no fish he said so. I just wish he had time to fish some of them more. An all around good book. I have tried some of the out of the way streams he mentioned.

in search of impartiality
I have just finished reading one copy of the first print of this book, date of which is 1926.So one may expect to find it more in the spirit of a newspaper article than a historical survey. But ,so i can say,it does accomplish to be "scientific" more than i expected. It is able in conceiving such a hot and fresh matter in the larger context of the historical contest and collision or interaction of East and West. In its predictions on the near and far future of Turkey -as a Turk i can say- it is mostly proved right. But,in spite of the authors apparent striving after impartiality,it has an implicit desire to "manipulate" rather than to understand some aspects of the policy of the early Turkey, especially on the matters which involve England.Perfect example of this attitude is the Musul and the "kurdish problem". The book in its entirerity is trying to prove to western people that "Turks are human-beings".This sounds strange to me-i said:i am a turk- but maybe helpful to some western people -in two ways:1)to understand that we are human or 2)to see the state of mind of western people in the beginning of this century.I hope that the first may be unnecessary now. Ýt is well written ,easily readable, and very informative:deserves to be read.

Two Minutes for Roughing is Really Cool
This book is excellent and has won The Canadian Children's Book Centre Choice award. It is packed with hockey action and teaches people what to do with bullies. It is really realistike because when somebody talks Joseph Romam, the author, puts in the little things people say, here is a list, um, ah, like, oh. This book is really cool, I should know because I've read this book and I talked about it with my friends, but don't take my word for it, read it yourself!
