Minutemen News: A Novel
Published in Paperback by Legend Books (27 May, 1997)
Author: Joseph P. Berry
Amazon base price: $18.95
Used price: $190.51
Average review score:

Extraordinary
This novel is an eye opener of our superficial "godverment".I found it incredibly compelling to take a walk through the author's mind as he unveils such ruthlessness and hypocracy! A must read,to know the truth and have the truth set you free of doubts, confusion and disappointments!

A great satire on TV news.
"Minutemen News" is the most perceptive political (and television) satire I have read in years. Like George Orwell in "1984", Berry invents his own language to warn about the hypocrisy of a bureaucratic "godvernment", and a lapdog media. Some of the terms he uses include "liberty harassment" and "libertyism", bias against people who believe in and practice free will. But the best part of the novel is Berry's running joke of a "He said/She said" U.S. Senate Confirmation Hearing, where Supreme Court Nominee "David Chang" is accused of "double-entendre harassment" by his former employee, "Nikki Darling".

Finally! A libertarian view of how it really is.
The parallels to CBS are right on. The US government is being controlled by god-fearing men and a supreme court with their own god. What about my god? What ever happened to the separation of church and state? A must read!!!

Monastic Wisdom: The Letters of Elder Joseph the Hesychast

Wonderful
The wisdom and sweetness of the Elder's words make this book a true treasure. He epitomizes the very essence of spiritual fatherhood. It comes as no surprise to learn that Elder Joseph's spiritual children and grandchildren ( if you will ), number in the thousands, and that his blessed memory lives on in all of their hearts.

Grace filled pages
Elder Joseph's letters are awe-inspiring as well as action inspiring. This collection of letters comes from several sources (they don't all have the same recipient.) He addresses clergy, monastics, laity (both in Greece and abroad.)

The level of asceticism he practiced he never pushed on anyone else. He expected much out of people, but made them want to be that way of their own will. He wasn't interested in having a bunch of puppets. He was a true spiritual father, not a spiritual dictator.

Many of his ideas, sayings, etc will seem "radical" to most English speakers. After a while though, you realize Elder Joseph isn't the radical one, he is living the God-inspired life, while the rest of us aren't quite hitting the mark.

More than anything though, you realize how his love of God has caused him to have extreme love for all of creation...even those that didn't like him. Elder Joseph was a man of incredible discipline, humility and love. He was always strict with himself, willing to admit when he was wrong. He was kind, generous, and loving to others.

I can't say enough good things about this book. The Elder's words just melt you with joy and challenge you to become like Christ. I also want to comment on the literal book itself. The hardcover edition is beautifully put together. Embossed cover, multicolor printing, nice art, quality paper, binding etc. If taken care of, this book should exist for generations.

Buy this book, and challenge yourself.

A True Saint of the 20th Century
Excellent translation of the Greek version. This book demonstrates what an incredible saint Elder Joseph the Hesychast is. His writings will inspire you to practice the Jesus Prayer without ceasing. His ascetic struggle and love for Christ and the Virgin Mary will bring tears to your eyes. I am truly amazed that we have had such a saint in our century. This book is definitely one of the best Orthodox Christian books out there.

An excellent commentary on the development of monotheism
Dr. Joseph Winsten's "Moses Meets Israel" puts me on scene as I travel with him as he traces biblical teaching of the origin of Israelites, recounting the earliest migrations from the Arabian peninsula and the folklore and history that pursued through the times of Moses. I am taken on the long journey visiting the desert, the villages, tribes, kingdoms and individuals who have been heroes to most of us. Winsten makes pictures as he writes so that the probable history, the way he accounts for it, seems alive and true. While it is upsetting to watch the possible destruction of what he designates as myth, it is scholarly written, and commands utmost attention.

Yes, I found "Moses Meets Israel" disturbing. There are so many possibilites presented different from the sacred book that it is difficult to trash almost the whole of what has been sacred. The outcome is that with the rehasing and slashing of the stories of holy characters - the myths as the author writes - it becomes necessary to examine and reexamine accumulated knowledge to make new and fair judgement of what really happened.

Congratulations to Dr. Winsten for making his assumptions based on his prolonged research, his literary manner and "guts" to make deeper thinkers of all who read his book

Get to know Moses and the development of one God.
This is an extraordinary, well researched book, presenting a new, refreshing insight into the character of Moses and the development of the concept of one God, the basis of the major Western religions. It traces the times from the early peoples in the area, the Egyptians, and the Exodus of the Hebrews. Did the Red Sea really part? What really did happen? A good read! Try it!

dan with the box...quit sticking your foot in your mouth
I am afraid to say that "dan with the box" doesn't really know what he is talking about, doesn't understand the game, and obviously hasn't played it either. He probably bought the rules and then skimmed through them. I gave it five stars but I am still learning the system. However, this system is thorough and from what I have seen it can use material from any other system. The great thing is that the effects of the "bias" mechanic (a mechanic that affects the reliability of skills and equipment from world to world) is reproducible on all material that you bring into Multiverser.

best worst game in existence
This is a great idea fo a game..... but Mark Young completely leached out any flexibility the system had. For instance. Breathing requires a roll! You must make three rolls to perceive something. Walking across the room can take as many as 60 rolls!!!(and hours of dice rolling fun!)

Young wrote the rules (1st edition used a three dimensional grid to acomplish simple tasks)and proved that humans deserve extintion in the process. E.R. Jones on the other hand had little to nothing to do with this books publishing/writing; but was responsible for the game concept(great idea though).

Bottom line:read at your own risk. But if you want to be offended give the disclaimer a read. Young states in it that "polytheism is a spiritually banckrupt religiuos philosophy." I AM NOT JOKING! Oh and have fun walking at flight speeds( actual body skill! The one good thing about this book is it will send you into histerical fits of laughter )

Good book
I have played a lot of RPGs and CCGs and this one is the most original and largest. It is unlimited in settings and works with every game there is. I like Multiverser a lot. The Book of Worlds is good as well!

My Lucky Penny

A welcome addition to any home
My Lucky Penny is a valuable addition to any family's library. It manages to get across its timeless message of hope, love, and understanding in a non-patronizing and highly entertaining manner. I thought the material on the accompanying CD (the music tracks in particular) was very well done. It really adds a lot of value to the product, and it's certainly a far cry from the multimedia drivel which unfortunately tends to accompany other efforts in this genre.

Recommended without hesitation. Get it! You'll be humming the theme song in no time!

Brilliance at it's best
My Lucky Penny is one of the best books i have read in a long time. It is a real story with morals and you don't see that much in todays world. The author has done a great job,and i will be looking forward to his next book.

My Lucky Penny (Not Yet!)
The Lucky Penny by Joseph Scaglione and Kathy Szarko is well written, full of color and instills values in children. As a teacher and a grandmother, I have read and played The Lucky Penny many times for students and grandchildren. I feel it is a worthwhile project to get children to comment on the story and its value. Most children relate to the brother sister relationship. The colorful pictures, give students the opportunity to follow the story line and recall facts. I not only have this in my classroom and my home, it is now a proud member of our school library. I can't wait for the next one!

Changed my outlook on life
This is a wonderful little book. All quotations are printed in meditation format, and some are no longer than a few brief paragraphs. Others are as long as a page. They all rejuvenate my mind, like sitting next to a crystal stream in the forest. The font, spacing, and layout of the book are exquisite.

This book has meant so much to me for almost a decade. I still remember the time I found this book, and my initial reaction to the quotes within; imagine, a time when there were no high-rises on the American landscape, indeed, a time before it was called "America." A world before pollution and overpopulation were concerns. This afforded a connection with the world and a spiritual experience that none of us will ever truly know. This world is now gone, and if not for books like this its memory would not be preserved. This book helped make me more aware of Indian/Native American thought.

When the commotion of the world around you is overwhelming you, this book makes for a great escape. Especially insightful is the quote that reads, "We do not want churches because they will teach us to argue about God."

This book is a gem.

Rock on!
This book is fantastic! If you are considering purchasing it then do not hesitate. It is full of things that made me think. It is very educational and practical. I love it! It is helpful because it has such intellegent information in it. There are different passages in it from different Native Americans. There are several chapters, and background information about the Native Americans that were quoted in the book. I think it is an awesome book, and it had a great impact on me after reading it.

Early Native Americans had such pure thoughts about life...
This compilation of Native American sayings is appropriately called wisdom. Full of the logic and simple things that they lived and strived for. And how they were trying to understand the newcomers to their land...they could not believe that there were others in the world that were so violent, immoral, dishonest and treacherous...after reading what they have to say, it is not hard to see where their bitterness comes from. Some very well chosen statements from wise Native Americans.

NeuroTheology: Brain, Science, Spirituality, Religious Experience

Excellent! Comprehensive.
NeuroTheology is an excellent, comprehensive, scholarly text which begins at the beginning (the Creation) and ends at the end (Armageddon). Some of the best, most daring minds in the science of religious experience, have chapters included in this book, including Newberg, Persinger, Alper, Albright, d'Aquili, Bruce MacLennan, and Fraser Watts of the University of Cambridge. ... this is otherwise an excellent, comprehensive text which deserves a place on the bookshelf of any serious scientist.

Provocative & Ground Breaking.
This is a provocative and ground breaking book. NeuroTheology contains 34 chapters written by 20 different experts, including Michael Persinger (who many consider the father of the field), Rhawn Joseph (who Newberg refers to as one of the founders of the field), Dr. Paloutzian (the editor of the International Journal of the Psychology of Religion), Dr. Albright (the former Executive Editor of Zygon the Journal of Science & Religion), and a host of others including those who do not believe in NeuroTheology. The value of this book is that it offers so many different perspectives. It is 644 pages in length, contains over 100 pictures, and addresses and answers many provocative questions regarding the nature, origin, and scientific basis of spirituality and religious belief.

A Book Light Years Ahead of Its Time.
This is a great and wonderful, sometimes disturbing book. It is clearly ahead of its time. The chapters range from discussions of the big bang and the origin of life to the coming of the "anti-Christ" --an astronomical event which, according to the author, has to do with "precession" and the slow progression of the equinox from "house to house" i.e. the Age of Pieces (the Fish) and the Virgo (Virgin) being replaced by the Age of Acqurious and Leo (the Beast). I also enjoyed the chapters by Newberg and Persinger which provide an overview of the neuroanatomy and neurochemistry of religious experience. The chapters by Alper were also very interesting. I guess what I liked best about this book is that it is very scientific yet offers a variety of opinions from a number of different scientists. There are over 30 chapters. The only major flaw in this book, were the rather superficial and boring chapters by "pop" writer Susan Blackmore. Why anyone takes her serious is beyond me. I highly recommend this book. It has something for everybody.

This Book is Free!
This book is essentially free. The book had a sticker on it that directed me to their website for a free sales strategy report. I downloaded the forms on one of my most difficult doctors and sent them in, within 24 hours they sent me a complete sales strategy report, which is a twenty five dollar value. I know of no other book that gives you so much for the money.

Great Selling Skills
Terrific, has a great selling skills section that provides all of the skills and techniques required to sell in today's competitive market. Is more complete than many selling skills manuals I have seen.

Northridge High Football Camp: A Novel
Published in Paperback by Heretic Books (March, 1996)
Author: S. Joseph Krol
Amazon base price: $12.95
Average review score:

Very Good book of coming to terms....
I actually was very impressed with this book. Like other reviewers have said, the terminology in this book to describe certain body parts is somewhat harsh, and vulgar, but it is actually very accurate. High school guys do talk this way, and do actually this way at football camp, so it adds a bit of reality to the book.

Nevertheless, the story of Vinnie and Vuch was a very good one. They way the author takes his time laying out the budding friendship and relationship between these two football hunks/stars was extremely good. I really liked the interaction between them and the other characters, especially the character nicknamed 'Meat'.

I was also very impressed with the way the author ended the book. It keeps the reader guessing on the future'.

I think this is a well-written book and highly recommend this book to all young adults and up.

Vinnie and Vuch were awesome!
This was the story of two tough and popular football players who find themselves attracted to each other. In their rough and, I guess, brash football world, they develop an infatuation as old as time. They attend football camp together and come to terms with their feelings for each other.
The language is coarse and some of the descriptions are gross, but this is what my football and basketball playing brothers and their friends were like in high school. I think that S. Krol Joseph does an excellent job portraying these characters as real, tough football players. He also captures their sensitivities and their growing affection. I think the build of emotion is realistic and the self-doubt and denial is handled in a subtle and completely natural way. Also, the romantic suspense was beautiful. I could have hoped to hear more about Vinnie and Vuch after football camp, but I have to admit the ending was satisfying. I read the book in one sitting! If you like gay teen stories or romance, I think this is a must have and it will hold a nice place in my collection.
