Pharmacy Technician Workbook & Certification Review

Excellent Pharmacy Tech Exam Review Workbook
This is an excellent workbook for the PTCB exam. The examples are clear and they don't expect you to already know medical terminology. The vocabulary is clearly explained. There could have been more practice math problems, though. However, be aware that it is not a comprehensive textbook. You'll also need to purchase the textbook that goes with it, The Pharmacy Technician by Shrewabury, Medina, Cordiale et al. They're both excellent books. Together, they make a complete and understandable review guide to the PTCB exam.

The Book For Certification Preparation
This new book offers you an excellent choice for your home study or classroom use. This book will give you all the information you need to pass the national certification examination offered by; The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board; PTCB. Joe Medina has done excellent and you will benefit. This is the companion book to; "The Pharmacy Technician" by Morton Publishing 1999.

" A book that keeps your interest, I kept wanting more"
"Poetry that expands you heart and mind. A wondrous book of poetry that will enrich your soul, enhance your thoughts, and will keep you wanting more. I recommend "Pieces of Eight" to everyone. You will smile, laugh, and ponder or hours. Thank you for yet another wonderful book Dr. Bob.

Inspiring daily read
Dr. Iwaniec's book has been a fun addition to my library. Poetry has not been one of my strong suits and I'm finding this book an excellent introduction to that art. At the same time, I'm finding the insightfull poems put a different 'spin' on topics I haven't given much thought to before. When I use the book as a quick read before my day begins, I find the inspiration and insights carry over. I find some are funny, some are sad and some poems make me go hmmm. Overall, a great book that I highly recommend and I'm sure that I'll be rereading it time and again and finding different value each time.

A surreal treat!
Science fiction should transport the reader into a world that is wondrous and slightly familiar. Joseph Fullam's The Players does that, but with a twist.

(The main character) encounters all kinds of bizarre beings and problems, giving The Players a disturbing, surreal atmosphere. Fullam makes Earth seem more alien than the alien planets that are the typical science fiction fodder. He does this so well that it leaves the reader in a wide-eyed state of discomfort and awe. It is almost as if Dali wrote the last half of this novel through Fullam's hand, and it couldn't be any better.

The Players is a delightful treat in a genre that is often burdened with pretentious writers who lack storytelling skills. Fullam, on the other hand, gives his novel an oddly spiritual tone that begs for attention.

Science fiction at its speculative, futuristic best!
Man was born on many planets. The highest order of Man lives on the doorstep to Heaven. On a planet called Juniper, only a few hundred years have passed since they entered intergalactic society. The Junipeans traverse the heavens in Lightstars, gargantuan fire-spewing spacecraft that leave a signature nuclear wake. When a mysterious series of events occurs on a nearby plant that may hold the key to a superior method of travel, they risk expulsion from intergalactic society, and send someone to find out what has happened. That planet is Earth. The year is 2024. From first page to last, The Players is science fiction at it's speculative, futuristic, galactic best.

Will change your mind about disliking history
Mr. Mee is a fantastic writer. As another reviewer remarked, Mr. Mee definitely brings history to life. The meetings described in this book make for great, enticing reading material for junior high school on up.

Great book
Mr. Mee is an excellent writer and truely brings history to life. I recommend this book to anybody that wants more than "light reading", has an interest in human-kind and is not a real history buff.

The Plays of Joe Salerno
Published in Paperback by Writers Club Press (September, 2001)
Authors: Joseph Salerno and Joe Salerno
Amazon base price: $36.95
Average review score:

A Fascinating CollectionThe
Plays of Joe Salerno is an almost 700 page imaginary nation with three distinct states. In the first state, biting, sometimes even caustic satire reign supreme. Teenage girls obsessed with being skinny try to get cancer because they heard it makes people lose weight. Corrupt Pastors get a bad employee evaluation from the Christ Himself. God advises a disciple to mind his own business and cloned copies of a beuaty queen are sold to lonely men. In the second state, a central player called Professor Field (one suspects he is, in many ways, Salerno himself) is present, actively or passively in the texts of fours musicals which seem to captue a moment in Salerno's life. In the author's notes he describes the central play, Obsessors, as a 'blueprint of my brain'. Ironically, that play's intentions are muted slightly by some poor editing, but the play's overall impact is as sure as intended. The third state is the land of Jerry & Stubby, roommates who bicker constantly in the tradition of beloved sitcom characters. The humour here is more traditional than in the first state and in some ways, more laugh out loud funny as well. If Salerno is president of this nation fo three states, than I suspect his citizens reflect his thoughts, feelings, values, and equivocations. Since they are, literally, his people, this is as it should be.

Portuguese Spinner, Is The Best book That I've Ever Read!
The Portugues Spinner, was the best book that I've ever read and it took me, only a few days to read it and I've never read this fast before { I just couldn't put the book down ]! My ancestors came from Sao Miquel and Sao Jorge, Acores and lived in New Bedford, Mass. I was born in New Bedford and this book brought back so many memories of living there and I still remember lots of those places. I went to Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church and School! The pictures were Great and it was wonderful reading about your own town like that. I also worked at the factory that was mentioned in the book when I was only 16 yrs.old. I will pass this book along to my children so, they can enjoy it too! Thank you so much! Sincerely, Mrs. Olivia Rosa Silva Strittmatter Tucson, Arizona

A major accomplishment
As an immigrant from St. Michael, Azores, who was raised in the south end of New Bedford, Massachusetts, one might think I had little to gain from a book describing my "roots," but quite the opposite was true. Every morning I read a few pages with my coffee and almost every morning I found myself teary-eyed and nostalgic. My emotional reaction to the book came from feelings of compassion, pride and a deep understanding that was stirred by the stories, cases, and historical background so beautifully captured by the writers and editors. The photography is wonderful as well. I've now purchased three copies of this book and expect to still buy more. I want to share it with family and friends and don't want to give up my copy so I'll keep buying them as gifts. My sister, who still lives in Portugal, said that if this book were translated into Portuguese, it would be well-received in Europe and Brazil. I know my parents, who are non-English speakers, would enjoy it thoroughly if it were translated. Meanwhile, I shall treasure it both as a remarkable example of documentation of the immigrant experience and as a personal reminder of my heritage. Non-Portuguese friends of mine have also found it fascinating and a valuable contribution to an often ignored aspect of American history. Many kudos (and much gratitude) to the editors and publishers for a major accomplishment.

The Standard for Software Measurement Programs
I would rate this book ****** if it were possible. If you are looking for material on how to start a "software metrics program", look no further. This is the ultimate reference on software measurement initiatives. The PSM method is compatible with the CMMI (Measurement & Analysis Process Area) and the foundation for the ISO/IEC 15939 standard. All of the authors are recognized authorities in software measurement and process improvement. Dr. Barry Boehm (COCOMO author) has written the foreword. The PSM process is sponsored by the DoD and the U.S. Army. The book itself is comprehensive, well-written, and easy to read. It provides ready-to-use templates such as "Measurement Construct Template", "Project Measurement Plan Outline", and "Data Verification Checklist". Chapter outline:

1 - Measurement: Key Concepts and Practices
2 - Measurement Information Model
3 - Plan Measurement
4 - Perform Measurement
5 - Analysis Techniques
6 - Evaluate Measurement
7 - Establish and Sustain Commitment
8 - Measure for Success
Appendix A - Measurement Construct Examples
Appendix B - Information System Case Study
Appendix C - Synergy Integrated Copier Case Study

Note: Appendix A provides 14 detailed, complete examples of measurement constructs ("metrics"). Appendixes B and C provide 2 comprehensive case studies (approximately 60 pages).

It would require at least a 2-day workshop to address all the information provided by this book (probably at 10 times its price). You can't afford to miss it if you are more than casually interested in software measurement. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Off-the-shelf processes for CMMM level 3 and above orgs
There is a wealth of material available from the PSM site, including the PSM Insight application and PSM Guidebook. However this book is not redundant because it is structured as a clearly written introduction to practical software measurement, that includes excellent guidance for implementing it into your organization. In addition, the 304 pages that comprise this book manages to convey the information contained in the existing PSM documentation, and does so much more succinctly.

I found the most valuable parts of this book to be the clearly described measurement model, and the way the authors distinguish between data that is useful to projects and organizational data collection and analysis. This material places PSM in context and is a sound starting point for an organizational SQA initiative.

The case studies reinforces the mechanics of PSM, and also contain advice and pointers for implementing enterprise-wide measurement. Although I've been following the PSM initiative almost since its inception and have read all of the copious materials available, I still gained much from this book. If you're establishing an SQA function or striving for CMM level 4 or above you'll find this book invaluable. The URLs provided will lead to even more material, including a free Windows-based software tool that fully supports the practical software measurement process.
