An interesting look into ancient Japanese religeon
The heart of this short volume is of course the ancient ritual prayers used in Japan in ancient times, more specifically translations of them. This in itself is a rare feature and should get the attention it deserves as we tend to overlook such core features especially when dealing with Easter (non-Western) rituals.
Another valuable part of this book is the preface, which itself is reason enough to buy the book. It is a clear attack on an all too overlooked problem: that Western scholarship and its methods, despite its own hubris, lacks in the capabilities it needs to have in order to deal with non-Western subject matter: from Euro-centracism to Chirstian enspired thought of the place of man and God in the universe and their roles therein. This should serve as a good wake-up call to many in the scholarly community.

Notes on the Settlement and Indian Wars of the Western Parts of Virginia Pennsylvania from 1763 to 1783, Inclusive

Important primary source of pioneer, frontier life
Joseph A. Doddridge, medical doctor and Episcopal pastor, provides this important primary source of frontier pioneer life near the turn of the eighteenth century. He writes with an eloquence no longer taught. His Notes are compatible with Jefferson's Notes on Virginia and cover the everyday practical details of life on the frontier. The book and supplements added by his daughter, Narcissa Doddridge, describe life in the Tri-state area of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio. A man of his times, Doddridge still shows a respect and admiration of American Indians apart from some violence he experienced. The growth of a new civilization is what Doddridge proclaims and seeks to preserve. The growth process is evident in his tracing of early important institutions such as churches, freemasonry, schools, and transportation. This is the account of a humble man who knew he and his people were doing something important and doing it well.

Great Book
I think this is a very powerful book. It is an essential tool to the fraud examiners as well as auditors and security personnel. I think it is a great book for students as well in order to give them information about fraud and its nature and the dangerous consequences it makes. With the examples and cases explained in the book, it becomes a very reader friendly book. Finally, the book also includes tools and techniques for detection and prevention of Fraud..

A journey of discovery and enlightenment
Living on a New England farm, poet Joseph Gustafson observes the special moments of each season that connect us with nature briefly, but also for all times. This book has a timeless quality that reminds us of the passing of time and the need to savor and save our natural environment. Implicitly, the book reminds us that our own salvation is linked with natural laws, and when we destroy nature, we destroy ourselves. Won a Merit Book Award by the Haiku Society of America in 1987, an honor well deserved. .

A translation that combines charm and accuracy.
Joseph Clancy manages in his translation of the "Odes" to accomplish a tricky task- that is, capturing the spirit of Horace's poetry, while not deviating too much from the original Latin. The same also applies to the translations of the "Epodes." In all, it is a delightful translation, which allows anyone, even those unacquainted with Latin Literature to enjoy one of the the gratest poets of Western Civilization. The wide spectrum of Horace's topic, as well as the perfection to which he brought his work cause many hardship for the modern translator. Clancy seems to overcome most of those, and produce a translation which is pleasant to read, and at the same time doesn't lose sight of the Latin originals. Highly recommended.

I may be biased, but...
This book was written by my stepmother and her father; it is a great fictionalized history of the Mormons, covering five generations of one family and their experiences as Latter-Day Saints. Very well-written, and an enjoyable read.
