Il teatro di Joseph Conrad
Published in Unknown Binding by Edizioni scientifiche italiane ()
Author: Valeria Petrocchi
Amazon base price: $
Average review score:

Il teatro di Joseph Conrad
Valeria Petrocchi explores Conrad's theatre: the three plays (One Day More, The Secret Agent and Laughing Anne) are analysed in their specific identity as theatrical works, although they had been taken from Conrad's narrative. The literary and psychological comparison between Conrad and Pirandello is particularly interesting: the author focuses her attention on their modernism, despite some different features. An analysis of the diffusion of Conrad's work in Italy at the beginning of the 20th century is carried out with accuracy. In appendix the catalogue of the books held in Conrad's library is useful to understand Conrad's personality, not only his literary interests.

The Joy of Art
Anyone who has ever gazed at a favorite work of art and longed to DO something about it will cherish Joseph Stanton's IMAGINARY MUSEUM, a collection of poems that respond to images from the visual arts--painting, sculpture, movies--and the arts of drama and story. Stanton's own images and word-music concentrate your attention in fresh and startling ways, quicker than thinking. In these poems you'll find a ghost's sleeves dripping with salt, fire trying to outlive the burning house, a bird disappearing with a cry into unpainted silk. The arrangement of the book "museum" into galleries is delightful. Visit the Western Wing with its Vermeer, Cezanne, and Magritte poems; the Eastern Wing with its stunning evocations of Noh Drama; The Moving Picture Room with its Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Blade Runner, Birds (look out for that darkening jungle jim!) and Incredible Shrinking Man; the golden-lit Breugel Gallery; the surreal yet familiar Exhibition of Tales; and the spare splendor of the Hopper Gallery (Edward Hopper is obviously a favorite artist of the poet's). From cover to cover, IMAGINARY MUSEUM is a rare beauty.

Awesome read!
Sutton is an exciting writer. His stories are interesting, vivid, unique.
He's written two pieces about William Saroyan, his mentor, in this
collection. He covers a lot of territory in 200 pages (29 stories
altogether), from growing up in Hollywood to relationships to travel to
sports to old age. This book is a must read. I wonder why I haven't heard
of this author before.

An Excellent Biography!
This was a very good writing of the life story of Nelson A.
Rockefeller. This book tells you of the wealth that Rockefeller was raised in. It then takes him to adulthood. His years of government service are well covered by the author. His four terms as the Governor of the state of New York are documented. His term as Vice-President of the United States is also in this
book. His being dropped from the Republican ticket is also told
in detail in this book. Rockefeller's life is well covered in this book. His service is unquestioned. You will also notice that
Rockefeller was the force that brought several good people to government service. Buy this book and read it. You will not be
dissapointed.

Narrative verse at its finest
In IN EVERY SEAM Allison Joseph conveys a narrative voice that is distinct. Her poems give the reader the sense of experience as it happened. IN EVERY SEAM is one of those rare volumes that make readers feel better in tune with the world around them, a world that, though possibly far different from their own, becomes more and more their own as each poem is digested.

A modern-day Bernarnos tells the life of an urban priest.
Paul Wilkes, often seen in the pages of the New Yorker or the New York Times Sunday Magazine writing on issues of faith in the modern age, turns in a compelling biography of a modern-day Catholic cleric. Entering the priesthood in the idyllic 1950s, Joe Greer's expectations were completely upturned by the dramatic changes of Vatican II and the wrenching realities of ministry in inner-city Boston. Rather than enjoying the peace of a well-appointed rectory, Fr. Greer winds up riding the stone-pelted school buses of Boston during the angry days of desegregation. Never claiming sainthood for himself, Greer struggles with very human temptations -- and occasionally falls to them, only to repent and try again. Finally, as the pastor of a suburban Boston church, Joe Greer faces the greatest challenge to faith anyone can confront -- he is diagnosed with a rampant and unyielding form of cancer. How this good man of a faith always open to doubt deals with the most dangerous temptation -- the temptation of despair -- shapes the crux of this well-told spiritual biography
