Full of rare and informative interviews
I found a battered paperback in a second hand shop and picked it up as it had a rare interview with Stanley Kubrick discussing his plans for Napoleon.

There is a mixed bags of directors, some established (Stanley Kubrick, Richard Lester, Arthur Penn); others just starting out (Jim McBride, Brian De Palma) and those plain weird (Norman Mailer, Andy Warhol).

it is interesting to read the opinions and experiences of these film makers. There are some hilairous prophecies i.e. Roger Corman claims that Pay TV will be a failure.

Very difficult to get hold of a copy now, but should one snap it up quickly.

A glimpse into an ugly mind
I didn't really know how to rate this book. As a diary? As history? Should I have rated Trevor-Roper's editing?

So I rated it a "5", but it hardly matters. I don't think anyone will read Goebbel's diary because it's "popular."

My reactions to this book were mixed. I found my opinion of Goebbels as a man and a mind considerably lower after finishing the book. Yes, I knew beforehand that he was a recalcitrant Nazi and mass-murderer. On the other hand, I've read Albert Speer's books, and he always spoke admiringly of Goebbel's intellect. I respect Speer's intellect highly, but I must say that he was wrong about Goebbels. Goebbels in this diary is an ugly, sordid, vicious little man, repeating the same tired mantras again and again, transparently trying to varnish his image for history, and sniping and gossipping about everyone around him. (But then, Speer found himself to be dreadfully wrong about Hitler, too.)

Intellect? I hardly found myself able to discern one in this mess.

Still, I'm glad I read the book. It adds another dimension to my understanding of the Third Reich, and serves as a counterbalance to the other accounts I've read.

But I wouldn't call the experience of reading this book enjoyable.

The death of Cardinal Bernardin
This book is a wonderful glimpse at the final days of one of America's most prominent Catholic leaders. Cardinal Bernardin embraced his trials with grace and dignity, and thus set an example for all of us. For those who would like a glimpse at the death of this great Catholic leader, I really can't say enough good about this book.

Financial Statement Fraud: Prevention and Detection
Published in Digital by John Wiley & Sons ()
Authors: Zabihollah Rezaee and Joseph T. Wells
Amazon base price: $65.00
Average review score:

Important work on a very timely subject
This book is a must-read for anybody involved in financial reporting, including investors who are putting their savings at risk. It breaks down financial statement fraud, how it occurs, and how it can and should be prevented or detected in the corporate hierarchy (auditor's role, audit committee's role, management's role, etc.) It is extremeley relevant, especially in light of the Enron situation, well organized, and comprehensive. The Foreword by Joseph Wells makes a powerful argument on how pervasive a problem financial statement has become and speaks to this book's importance as part of the solution.

Truth above all
Joe Willis and I were colleagues back in the 60s - and this book links us anew. Joe's book and mine came out in the same month, and they are like companion pieces. We even quote the same authors, including George Santayana, Paul Tillich, Joseph Campbell and Alan Watts.

"Finding Faith" is thoughtful and thought-provoking. It reflects Joe's gentleness and his commitment to truth. He is more patient with humans in groups than I, which is something I envy. This book will help earnest seekers find interconnectedness and a glimpse of "Ultimate Reality." I highly recommend it.

Comments on The Fire of Creation, by J.J.Van Der Leeuw.
Although, mistaken in several concepts, the thinking and reasoning is excellent, as well as an excellent guide to mimic as a reasoning ability to develop when young. Very well thought out. One of the best books I have read for logic, and placing thoughts together
