Vampire Heart (Blood and Lace, No 1)

A cool vampire story.
Sabrina Van Fleet is a wealthy teenaged girl who is away at boarding school in England when she learns her parents have died in a car crash. She returns to her home in Maine to live with relatives. There she learns her "Uncle" Viktor is really an ancient ancestor. Cursed to become a vampire 200 years ago, he now wants to turn Sabrina so that she can be his servant. Sabrina, her boyfriend Eric, and a group of their friends must stop Viktor before it is too late. I think teens who enjoyed books by L. J. Smith and Janice Harrell would like this book.

A Must Read
This was one of the best autobiographies I have ever read! For any Joseph Cotten fan or classic movie fan it is a must. Joseph Cotten reveals everything from life as a child in VA to college to becoming a star, and all of the relationships he made along the way. I picked the book up once and didn't put it down until I had read every word.

The Vatican Connection

Belief and unbelief.
This 'reality' novel tells an incredible story: the Vatican through Mgr. Marcinkus tried to use $950 million of forged bonds as a collateral for new loans. But a New York policeman discovered the transactions and the key figure was convicted.
The other villains, besides the Archbishop, in this unbelievable story are very well known Mafia, masonic and money laundering figures: Michele Sindona, Roberto Calvi.
An only average police novel but with an astonishing content. Not to be missed.
I recommend another book with the same main characters in another murky affair: David Yallop 'In God's Name. An investigation into the murder of pope John Paul I'.

Venomous and Poisonous Marine Animals: A Medical & Biological Handbook
Published in Hardcover by Blackwell Science Inc (August, 1997)
Authors: John Williamson, Peter J. Fenner, Joseph Burnett, and Jacquie F. Rifkin
Amazon base price: $99.00

An Excellent Addition to the Field
We have long needed this book. Historically, most texts have either concentrated on describing the natural history of venomous organisms or the medical implactions of envemonations (a noteable exception is the excellent contributions by Halstead). This book provides a great deal of biological informtion about toxic marine organisms and then combines this with the latest information about medical treatments for envenomations. In addition, this book also contains an excellent reveiw and classification for cnidae, which I have personally been looking for for a while. I honestly can't say enough about this text. Although this book is not really for the layman (you won't find much in the way of popularized accounts of injuries), it is an EXCELLENT text for specialists.

...The Very Rich........More than just money!
...This is a history of wealth full of interesting people and details, not just a mere book about money. The book is full of mostly black and white photographs with a few color photos. Some of the photos included are ones of: Hetty the worlds richest woman, crown jewels of Iran,Irenee du Pont in 1957 with a pet iguana, a garden of clipped bushes in the shape on animals, Edith Kingdon, photos of Newport life, Mrs Vanderbilts ball in 1883 and many more. You are sure to find the rich stories just as fascinating as the incredible pictures.

The View From Shanty Pond : An Irish Immigrant's Look at Life in a New England Mill Town 1875-1938
Published in Hardcover by Shanty Pond Press (01 November, 1999)
Author: Joseph P. Blanchette
Amazon base price: $24.95
Average review score:

An important, unique contribution to Irish American history.
The View From Shanty Pond is a unique blending the historical writings of Joseph Blanchette with those of Peter Cassidy, the author's late great-grandfather to present the reader with a true and compelling account of the Irish immigrant experience in America at the turn of the 20th Century. Blanchette combines his own prose with the period poems and songs of his great-grandfather and in doing so deftly weaves a rich fabric of folk, local and national history that is as entertaining as it is informative. Lively, charming, original, painstakingly researched, incorporating a wealth of information from Peter Cassidy's scrapbooks of poetry, songs, newspaper articles, photos, and memorabilia, The View From Shanty Pond is a compelling window-in-time through which we can come to understand and appreciate the Irish immigrant experience in the burgeoning and industrial America of yesteryear. Highly recommended.
