A Book So Stirring That I Plan To Read It Again
A time of turmoil can be a spark to read and reflect on your beliefs. In mid-2003, after the Iraq regime had been ousted, it seemed odd to me that the the U.S. news media would remain so insistent on bashing conservatives. I think the media's liberal bias is showing, and I was stirred to pick up this work. I didn't know what to expect, but I discovered this is one excellent book. The author writes with pride about the values of conservatism and he examines why conservatives take unfair hits. Perhaps his engineering background gave him the talent to present his arguments so calmly and logically. The chapter titles alone are stirring -- "The Tyranny of Words," "The Arrogant Elitists," "The Politics of Envy, "The Myth of Infinite Resources" -- and hint at incisive thinking. When I finished the last page, I wanted to invite Joe Jacobs over for dinner for what I'm sure would be stimulating conversation. I could also sense by the tone of the writing that this is a wonderful man.

Health Care Models Revisited
Competing Solutions is an excellent review about real-world comparative international health care models of delivery and financing. Also, it is worth reading the chapter 7 on The Theory of Managed Competition because one can find clearly explained definitions and the core principles of this controversial theme. Joseph White shows that he is one of the main experts on this fascinating area of debate. One of his phrases: "If Americans must choose between narrower benefits for everybody and wider benefits for some, the choice is clear: cover everyone".(see page 274)

Compleat Adventurer: Fantasy Role-Playing Game Supplement
Published in Paperback by Bard Games (October, 1983)
Authors: Stephan M. Sechi and Joseph Bouza

Great Suppliment
THE COMPLEAT ADVENTURER is BARD GAMES' third Fantasy Role Playing Supplement, and covers in detail a host of new character classes that may be added to your favorite F.R.P. game system. As a logical suc cessor to THE COMPLEAT ALCHEMIST and THE COMPLEAT SPELLCASTER, this supplement is intended to expand the options of experienced players and Game Judges.

For the role-player in particular, THE COMPLEAT ADVENTURER offers a variety of colorful and viable types from which to chose. Several of the characters were invested with verbal talents which may be used to great advantage by the clever role-player. To add variety, certain character classes were designed so that the player could choose between several abili ties, thus creating a more "personalized" type of character. Others were given abilities of a highly specialized nature, in the hope that players would more easily be able to relate to (and role-play) them.

For the Game Judge, THE COMPLEAT ADVENTURER should do much to add to his or her repertoire of N.P.C. villains, heroes and anti--heroes, while hope fully stimulating a few new scenario ideas. The many new character classes should also add variety to city, village, and wilderness encounters, and make the Game Judge's job a bit more interesting.

The character types available are: Beastmaster

Buccaneer

Gladiator

Harlequin

The Hunter Class

Scout

Witch Hunter

Martial Artist

Compleat Alchemist Reviewed
The Compleat Alchemist is a very good book for those who wish to create their own magical items. It covers everything from minor potions to making constructs and humonculi (sentient creatures grown in vats). The only limit is the PC's own imagination. I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoy going in depth in their own magical research. I use it all the time in my own campaign worlds.

A compleat theory of the Scots Highland bagpipe
Published in Unknown Binding by Norwood Editions ()
Author: Joseph MacDonald

Classic!
Cannon's edition of MacDonald's manuscript is a must for any scholar of piping or ceol mor! If it cannot be found here, any interested individual should approach the College of Piping (in Glasgow). The text in question is MacDonald's MS regarding the playing of ceol mor (piobaireachd), and consists of instructions for fingering, playing various "cuttings", as well as containing pieces of ceol mor to illustrate points. MacDonald compares (though often with some bias) various playing styles, giving a distinct view of piping as it existed in the 18th century. Cannon's edition includes the editor's commentary, historical information regarding the pipes and playing styles, and a careful analysis of the original and published versions of the manuscript, noting alterations to the final draft of the manuscript. Along with a printed re-creation of the MS, the text includes color plates: photos of the original MS, so the reader can check the original without merely relying upon the editor's accuracy. Cannon is careful to note any questionable text, and to explain his actions. This work is typical of Cannon's high standards of scholarship. Anyone interested in the history of the Highland pipes, piping, or ceol mor should be familiar with this text!

perfect
This is such a super book. All the stuff you need to know about what is a good buy, plus extrodinary details on the history, making and regional characteristics of wines beers and spirits.
The information we could test, about Australian Wine was spot-on, so can only surmise the rest is too. There were however a few German spelling errors in the beer section. Good at all levels of interest.
