Review from the Publisher
No words of St. Joseph are recorded In Scripture. In fact, little mention is made of him there. Yet, despite these seeming limitations, the Church nonetheless possesses an indescribably rich knowledge of St. Joseph and of his cultus. This book will astound most readers both with its scope and with its profundity. Based mainly on Scripture, but supported also by Tradition and the depositions of saints, it is a carefully reasoned analysis of the entirety of that great saint's role in the history of Salvation and the life of the Church. Here we find discussed the age, appearance and occupation of St. Joseph; his character, spiritual life and noble lineage - he was a son of David and therefore by rights a king; how he was prefigured in the Old Testament; his relationship to Mary and Jesus; why he has been named by Pope Pius IX "The Patron of the Universal Church;" and so forth. Many beautiful insights are contained here, for example: St. Joseph can be truly called the father of Jesus in that he served as the model for the formation of the Divine Humanity of Our Lord. Because Mary and Joseph were closely related, Jesus looked like St. Joseph, thus concealing from the world Jesus' true identity until His Public Life. Joseph's work became the work of Jesus - that of a carpenter or builder - probably the most demanding work there is from a combined mental and physical standpoint, thus teaching all people the value of their own type of work, however hard it might be. The book contains all this, plus much, much more. But only a reading will do justice to the amazing riches of The Life and Glories of St. Joseph.

A literary look at the human side of medicine
Whenever I see a book with Robert Coles name on it I know it will be worthwhile to read. Coles served as one of several editors of A Life in Medicine: A Literary Anthology and the selections within are outstanding. They include poems, essays, short stories, and excerpts from longer works. The authors range from those working in the field (nurses, medical students, midwives, and physicians) to those not commonly associated with the field (e.g., Raymond Carver).
The book is thought provoking and emphasizes how we are all connected to the process of life and death. As a physician (with writing as an avocation) I thought it offered a wonderful look at the many facets of medical care and those that deliver it.
This book would be a wonderful gift for anyone in the profession but can be enjoyed by anyone with an interest in the human condition.

Simply the best
Stone's Life of Brant (1838) predates Lossing's Pictorial Field-Book of The Revolution (1859) by 21 years. In it are little know facts and discoveries a reader of the American Revolutionary period will find facinating. While Lossing covers the entire period in a manner second to none, Stone captures events specifically in the Mohawk R. vicinity. If you have visited this area, Stone's Life of Brant is a must read! This is a two-set volume that any true history buff should have in their library. I am lucky enough to have first editions of both Stone and Lossing. Tom Sayre, son of Russell P. Sayre of Pvt. Asa Hoskins fame.

Modern Day Martin Luther
This is the best biography of Joseph Fielding Smith ever written. Being written by the Prophet's son, this book has many of those humorous and deep insights that family members know, love, and cherish. I think the most interesting inclusions is the copy of President Smith's second patriarchal blessing. This blessing is a blessing for the world, since it gives us a revelation about the nature of President Smith's mission as an apostle, and later as a prophet.
President Joseph Fielding Smith is the reason why I am so religious. Or why I try to be religious, in any case. He has one of the greatest theological minds that I have ever read, and he is like a modern Martin Luther. He has a powerful faith that guided his life and labors.

Extremely inspirational!!!!!
From the moment I started to read I could not put the book down. Every time I walked away from it, something would make me turn around and read another chapter. It is compelling, magnificant and inspirational! There was a total peace within me as I read every word. I was able to picture in my mind the every movement of St. Joseph, Mary and child Jesus. This has deepened my faith and trust in God more than any other experience I have ever had!

"A Lifetime In Every Moment," is an absolute gem.
Hollywood, where are you? The autobiography of Joseph F. Littell would indeed make a stupendous film. Ron Howard, Tom Hanks, are you out there? This is an exciting and provocative literary work, offering insights into the life of an extraordinary man, not to mention, it is of historical significance. The book deals with Mr. Littell's youthful experiences in pre-Mao China, as the son of a missionary. His compelling and very much life threatening misfortunes on the front lines in World War II, at the Battle of the Bulge, and an existence, that no one should have to endure in a Nazi POW camp, make for a truly thrilling adventure. This is a very open and honest narrative of a boy , who grew up in a dysfunctional family, overcoming extreme hindrance, to create and become the head of a very successful publishing entity. Not to downplay the seriousness of this epic, it also contains a bit of that sardonic Littell wit, that can be more fully appreciated in his earlier works (i.e. "The Man Who Found the Loch Ness Monster," from New World Publishing). "A Lifetime In Every Moment," by Joseph F. Littell, is very much a definitive compendium of survival and success over evidential adversity. It is a book that you won't want to put down, as one chapter compels you to read the next, in eager anticipation of the cliff-hanger style outcome of each of these events. It is a great story and certainly a worthy addition to any literary collection. There is something here for all, young and old. Read it and learn. In closing, I reiterate, Hollywood, where are you?
