Those who knew De Mello give insight into the great man.
This little book is a collection of stories and anecdotes about Anthony De Mello and his life. It is full of great wisdom and gives some illumination in a biographical sense. If you have read anything else by this great teacher, you will appreciate this. It gives insight into an authentic heart that expressed itself fearlessly.

DESERVES 10 STARS, NOT 5!
This book is VERY in-depth in exposing the various sinful conditions of our hearts and the sins they cause us to commit with our mouths. I thank God for this book and the author. I am amazed at how much insight the author has and I really believe every christian should read this (I really mean that!!). I am only in the 9th chapter (of 12) and I will never be the same! Just since I started reading it my sensitivity has been so heightened to what I say and I can sense a stronger presence of the Lord in my life because of it. I could go on and on but I don't have the space. My personal thanks to the author, Joseph M. Stowell, for being obedient to the Lord in blessing the body of Christ with this book!

Wild Bill Comes Alive
This is a very interesting and fun book to read. Serious Wild Bill fans will enjoy all of the excellent pictures that help bring Wild Bills life alive. The limited text explains each picture well. People with just a passing interest in the Old West will enjoy this book for all of the original pictures. The pictures diffently speak a thousand words. The book also follows Wild Bills life in a step by step process so you get a good feel for the order of things that happened in his life. This is a must have book for all Wild Bill fans and any Western fan who enjoys period pictures.

Western Europe in the Middle Ages: A Short History

Author: Joseph Reese, Strayer

Used price: $3.40
Collectible price: $4.75
Average review score:

Terrific overview and analysis of the Middle Ages.
I cannot recommend this book more highly. In just 200 pages, Strayer provides an excellent summary and analysis of the history of western Europe during the Middle Ages. Unlike many other books on history, Strayer is very adept at not only presenting the facts, sequence of events, etc., but also at describing the key trends and patterns of history, and analyzing and interpreting what happened. Furthermore, he ties the patterns and trends of the history of the Middle Ages to later history, including our own times. His writing style is very clear, organized, and fluent. There is also a very useful bibliography included. My own criticism of the book is that I would have liked a few maps included. Nevertheless, this is a very, very excellent book.

Great for beginners!
I bought this book for my 5 year old, and he was able to read the entire thing himself the very first time - and he was so proud of himself! It contains many of the "sight words" they are teaching him in Kindergarten, and the other words are all easy to sound out. The story line itself very cute and 3 year old couldn't wait until his brother got to the end to see what happens!

Native American Tribes, Politics and Economic Development
I found that the resulting studies printed in these pages revealed a great amount of insight about successful Native American economic development and the interplay of culture, tradition, politics and tribal governmental mechanics. The book also reveals that the task of reforming tribal government may be a difficult task to achieve.

I would recommend a brief reading by any individual, company, or agency that maintains or wishes to develop a working relationship with Native American Tribes.

What the Great Religions Believe

Classic Tour of World Religions-As Good as Joseph Campbell!
Joseph Gaer's "What the Great Religions Believe" is one of the best entry-level books to getting a wide perspective on the world's largest and most dominant relgions including Hinduism, Bhuddhism, Jainism, Confucianism, Taoism, Shinto, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Zoroastrianism, Zen Bhuddhism and others.

I easily place Joseph Gaer in the same category as Jospeh Campbell. They're both captivating authors.

It's hard to believe that one can absorb many of the most important understandings of so many different religions in one 186 page paperback novel.

How does he do it?

He writes a chapter out of faith and separates it in to a few sections that include the following:
- A reasonable and straight-forward encapsulation of the faith's most important tenets, beliefs, and/or dogma in the form of easy-to-read stories that followers of the religions themselves prize and making lists where it helps of the religion's beliefs to make it easy to compare and contrast..
- Actual samples from the religion's literature including proverbs, poems, psalms, stories, and other forms of written and oral wisdom.

In addition, Mr. Gaer includes introduction, which defines what religion is and sets boundaries for how religion is discussed in this book as well as a final chapter with statistics on the various faiths and how they affect our world.

I bought this book back in the early 1980's and I still treasure it and use it as a reference. I've received many many compliments over the years from Muslims, Sikhs, and members of other religions because I was able to go home and read 30 minutes of Jospeh Gaer and pick up enough of an understanding of their religion that they were impressed.

With the 9-11 terrorist bombing still in my thoughts, I went to this book to refresh my knowledge of Islam before going to speak with a local Imam. He was tremendously surprised at the knowledge I started with.

BOTTOM LINE:

- Easy read

- Great timeless knowledge

- Inexpensive paperback that can easily be found used

- Wonderful entetaining stories and anecdotes from different religions

- Unbiased writing

- The author had no agenda other than to learn

Read this book, learn about other religions and cultures, and ENJOY!

Truly unique
The book is a fun, action-backed, romantic story. Mixing elements of Buddhist philosophy with hard core science in a New Age Techno-thriller, this book is is like a cross between The Matrix and The Celestine Prophecies. Cutting edge, thought-provoking, but most of all fun.

"A Wonderful Book--A Fascinating Read"
The first time I cracked open the cover and read a few lines, I knew this book was a winner.

While there are literally thousands of books out there showing fantastic photos of trains present and past. And many railroads have had their histories chronicled, this book focuses on the towns the railroads touched. This angle is unique, refreshing and most of all mesmerizing.

The author obviously spent a great deal of time researching the topic. The background information he supplies is immense, this was NOT a topic that was superficially researched. The various photos showing abandon railroad grades and shots of once busy steel-rails covered over in asphalt are especially telling.

And while the folks looking for photos of coal-drags over tall mountains may be disappointed, anyone that wants to understand how the railroads REALLY affected towns across the eastern United States, then you need this book.

A good book that combines railroading with American history. It will cause the reader to think twice as they pass that abandon railroad grade or drive by that run-down station.
