Ms. Joseph is more than a "one poem" poet
Like many people on this side of the Atlantic, my first exposure to Ms. Joseph was through her poem, "Warning", which presents such a humorous image of one individual's plan for her old age. In "The Inland Sea," I was pleasantly surprised to see that Ms. Joseph was able to bring that uniquely insightful touch to many different themes.

Inside the Wnba: A Behind the Scenes Photo Scrapbook (She's Got Game)

A few years out of date, but good
The biggest weakness is that the book doesn't contain anything about this season's incredible crop of rookies, from Jackie Stiles to Katie Smith. However, if your local paper's sports section is as lousy at WNBA coverage as mine is, the book contains a treasure of pictures and words about some of the solidest basketball players in the world.

Good-looking but hard to lug
Insight's City Guides combine stunning photography with literate text and a smattering of basic travel information. The Insight Venice guide is worth adding to your bookshelf, but its practical advice is getting a bit long in the tooth and its heft makes it less than ideal as a take-along guide. - Durant Imboden, Venice for Visitors, http://govenice.miningco.co

An econ book with real world uses!
Daniels and VanHoose have put together an easy to read, real world applicable textbook. The topics covered are upper level collegiate international finance, but it's presented in a down to earth, orderly fashion. While I would have wanted color graphs, the full examples of complex operations (derivatives hedging, theoretical currency exchange rates and the like) more than made up the difference. They separate the elitist mathematics from that which students want and need. As a college student without a lot of time, that's a huge help. The most important teaching tool used extensively throughout the book is historical data. Being able to show why in theory, give evidence, and then present the deviations takes effort. There is no easy way to explain how the central banks around the world use different tactics in thier policies, but they got through it.

Excellent Coverage of the key issues in Internet Economics
This book is a collection of articles based on a conference at MIT in 1995. Although many of the articles in this book are available over the web, this publication can save many, many hours of searching and download time.

Content wise, much of the book focuses on issues relating to pricing schemes for the internet. Although the data used in these articles will date quickly (and indeed already has) the theoretical pricing models explored are likely to be of increasing interest.

There is also some coverage of electronic commerce, but this book is probably going to be of most interest to those interested in the 'economic' analysis of the internet.

An informative and handy book which fills a void when it comes to print publications in this field.

Perfect foundation for understanding children's drawings
DiLeo does a great job of treating the subject matter of the interpretation of children's drawings. This is thorough work which gives the reader insight into such crucial aspects of interpretation as development, content, and projective uses. This is a "must read" for any therapist intending to elicit and interpret drawings from child clients.

The Interwoven Lives of George Vancouver, Archibald Menzies, Joseph Whidbey, and Peter Puget: Exploring the Pacific Northwest Coast (Canadian Studies, Vol 17)
Published in Hardcover by Edwin Mellen Press (April, 1996)
Author: John Michael Naish
Amazon base price: $139.95
Average review score:

Voyage of Discovery
The story of Vancouver's voyage to the Pacific North West is one of much hardship, persistance and determination. John Naish tells the story of the voyage by cross referencing the journals and diaries of four of the key players in this expedition. Taken individualy the journals are a great read themselves but when used to collaborate or just to fill in blanks it results in a very pleasant read. It takes the reader into the world of 1791-1795 in such a way that we can forget, briefly, what we have today and imagine the world during the times of the French Revolution and the emergence of America as a nation.

Introduction to Algebraic Topology (Graduate Texts in Mathematics, Vol 119)

Author: Joseph J. Rotman
Amazon base price: $64.95
Used price: $37.06

Average review score:

Good textbook
Rotman's book presents all the material one would expect of an introductory text, in the language of Categories although still accessible to those who have never seen categories before. While Rotman's style and exposition is excellent, the book often gets bogged down in cumbersome notation. Also some other textbooks(e.g. Munkres Elements of Algebraic Topology) give more motivation to the material and explain what is actually going on geometrically(as opposed to algebraically). Also, the exercises are generally quite easy. Overall, I recommend Rotmans book to people who don't mind being patient, and waiting to see the whole picture.
