Recommended for college-level students of Catholic history
The hefty price tag of this history may keep it from all but the most specialized Catholic library collections, but it continues the coverage of Vatican II begun in previous volumes, with this covering the mature council, second period and intersession from September 1963-1964 - a period in which the Vatican II began to assume its character. From the debate of collegiality to the Council's completion of the first two documents, chapters cover its revision of major texts and its political involvements. Recommended for college-level students of Catholic history.

Book Review: Ho Yi
Shelley Fu offers to the Western world, through her colloquial translation of these myths, an enjoyable glimpse into a culture that by-and-large remains a mystery to us. Reading these myths reminded me of reading Aesop's Fables when I was a child. They're interesting, colorful, entertaining, moral, and they communicate, in subtle ways, lessons about patience, ambition, consequence, tact, sincerity, treachery, and love (to name a few) with a sense of timelessness and temperament that results from the influence of ages of civilized life. Her natural sense of wit highlights the stories' humor and charm. Shelley Fu opens the book with the classic Chinese creation myth of "Pan Gu and the Creation"; she emphasizes the basic points of the myth with an uncomplicated and unique flair. "The Story of the White Snake," a tale of love, is a classic Chinese folk-tale about two female snakes who get bored of their cold mountain apprenticeship for divinity and decide to pursue the joys of human existence, transforming themselves into beautiful young women for that purpose--one of whom falls in love with and marries a pharmacist. "Journey to the West: the Monkey King," a morality tale, is about a divine monkey who grows so powerful that he threatens the authority of the Celestial Ruler, at which event only Buddha can make amends. These myths deliver a fundamental source of Chinese sensibilities to the Western reader and offer children a colorful and imaginative adjunct to the catalog of the world's classic myths.

Best Children's Folk Tale Ever
A great story of kidnapping and recovery and hero Little Dog Turpie. The Hobyahs' sing song chant invites children to participate. This story was made to be read aloud. Kids love the pictures. I am thrilled to find this book back in print. It was a favorite of my children as they were growing up. We have moved long since. No local library carried it.

A hallmark of twentieth century art
'Honey is flowing in all Directions' is an important historical document. It covers one of the most inventive and evocative works Joseph Beuys made for the Documenta exhibition 6 in Kassel, Germany in 1977. The Documenta is the world's foremost art manifestation, which happens every five years. This book can be perceived as a case study about the way Joseph Beuys thought and worked. The photographs in the book are made by Gerhard Steidl, the 'house photographer' of several Documenta's. Klaus Staeck, one of the foremost publishers and distributors of art books and special editions in Germany, published this book. It's a beautiful and inspiring publication that should be on every modern art lover's book shelf. Beuys' 'Honigpumpe am Arbeitsplatz', an installation in the central staircase at the Museum Fridericianum during Documenta 6 was a milestone. A large electrical pump squeezed fluid honey through a circuit of transparent tubes going up and down the staircase and entering adjacent spaces. The Honey Pump represented an Industry both of Vision and Discourse: Beuys' installation was physically and spiritually connected to a space behind the staircase where daily discussions took place. They were organized by the Free International College for Creativity and Interdisciplinary Research, an organization founded by Beuys. Its evocative power and intelligent social interface makes Honigpumpe am Arbeitsplatz a hallmark in the history of twentieth century art.

Excellent anthology!
An anthology by L. Joseph Shosty with no dedication to a certain type of category. I found myself addicted to Fantasy, Fiction, Sci-Fi, gangster stories, and the biggest tall tales ever to grace a short story collection!
Highly entertaining and guaranteed to please!

Sequoia-sized humor
You haven't lived until you've read some of these hysterical tall tales, told with a sort of country twang.
I especially like the one about the Adirondack mosquitoes, which are pratically the size of jet bombers, but the story of man-sized camp pancakes is also great.
The yarns all feature Bruchac's wonderful character, Bill Greenfield, who notes that a tall tale is like the seed of a tree. "Once you plant it and it gets rooted firm, it just keeps on growing." Sprout some of these saplings in your book shelf, and you'll see what I mean. Your kids, especially, will love you for it.
If I didn't know better, I'd swear old Bill came from Chelm. Alyssa A. Lappen

Dragon's story is captivating and bittersweet
I first read this book when I was in elementary school. I was delighted to recently find an copy at a book sale. It's in remarkably good condition considering it's older than I am! I fondly remembered the story of a little spotted stallion who is beautifully illustrated on the cover and through out the book. Dragon's life story is told from his point of view and by humans. From his birth in the Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico, to being captured and learning to trust humans, then becoming a founding sire of a champion P.O.A. bloodline on a Dallas ranch, Dragon's story is timeless. Though there are some sad moments, Dragon's life is full of adventure and determination. I also recommend other stories about Dragon by Lynn Hall, New Day For Dragon, Dragon Defiant and Dragon's Delight.

Fabulous
This is my absolute favorite book of all time. The book carries you away in its fantasy and innocence. The characters are warm and likeable and it gives you a different perspective than you normally see of early America. It is a book you will long remember and want to read again and again.
