Wonderful
The English Disease is a wonderful blend of the neurotic realities faced by Americans of any culture faced with assimilation. The struggle of Jewish-Americans' assimilation struggles are echoed by many Americans and Skibell's character takes this topic to places it's never been.

His thoughts are mimic those of many American Jews who struggle with the juxtaposition of American life, and Jewish spirituality. I laughed out loud at parts and was amazed at Skibell's observations in others.

Is there a better book introducing classical music?
If you love classical music, as I do, this is the book to tell you about what you are listening to. That is, for someone like me who has almost no natural musical ability, but does for some strange reason have a profound appreciation for it. How classical music manages to convey its ineffable beauty, I don't know, but it does. This book allows you to place what you are listening to in its place within the whole field of Western classical music.

Environmental Ethics: An Introduction to Environmental Philosophy

Thinking Deeply about the Environment, and Why it Matters
I read the first edition of this book (1993) and have no doubt that the third edition will surpass its scope and clarity. In a few hundred pages, Joseph Des Jardins unspools the thread of western philosophical tradition and makes it relevant for today's urgent environmental issues. Each chapter begins with a timely case study--salmon and economic develoment, nuclear waste and the rights of future generations to a clean environment--then develops the philosophical arguments required to more deeply understand just what is at stake in these and similar issues. Des Jardins' style is easy-going and eminently accessible. He wastes no words, gets to heart of the matter, and leaves the reader wanting more. Footnotes and additional readings lead to original material if the reader wants to delve more thoroughly into the topics. But you can just stop with Des Jardins if you are not a scholar, and still gain a firm grasp on how the big thinkers of western philosophy brought us to a critical divide in our environmental future. Edition One included late-breaking news from the social environmental and eco-feminist fronts, and I am confident the 2000 edition will be just as current.

indispensable education for those who want to make it
The most comprehensive work ever written in this subject. Throughout reading it or learning from it one feels that the author has not only learned it from textbooks but mastered it through tough deals, negotiations. Reccommend to every aspirant who wants to become a player in this field. This is a treasure for those non US based applicants who lack the business environment which is natural in the States but still want to make it to a US Stock Exchange

A Gay Man's Sexual Travel Adventures & Erotic Experiences!
Once in a while you read a book where you actually feel the author is having a personal conversation with you as he relives and tells you about his life experiences. You become so absorbed in the story he is telling you that you forget that the present world exists around you. That's the way I felt while reading Joseph Itiel's book about his gay sexual travel adventures and experiences. He reveals the many fascinating, exciting, and erotic sexual experiences he has had with men of different nationalities over the last four decades. He begins with his first sexual experiences in the1950's in NYC and Toronto, and his first foreign adventure to Rishikesh, India, where he became an apprenticed yogi. By taking up yoga he was able to cover up his homosexual activities while living in India. After all, this was the 1950's. This trip was not the wonderful experience he had hoped it would be. It did confirm and teach him, however, that his most satisfying sexual experiences would come from males who were ethnically and culturally different from him and he soon discovered he was also assured a more pleasurable sexual experience when he paid for it. Thus, his life-long positive relationships with male "hustlers", now known as "sex workers", would be established.

We're taken all over the world on his many sexual travel adventures, from Toronto to Mexico, to the Philippines, Japan, London, Hong Kong, Manila, and numerous other places. This book is a truly fascinating confession of his private life told in a beautiful, honest, and very personal way. I especially enjoyed his chapters titled "The Dancing Boy", "A Tiny Room at the Inn", and "Four Japanese Tales." The characters he meets, from callboys, to male geisha's and other sexual workers, are fascinating. His Manila diary entries were interesting, intriguing, humorous and sad at the same time, especially when he talks about the "psychic surgery" patients he met. They are interesting beyond belief.

Although all of these foreign sexual encounters are fascinating and very erotically described, there's even more to this wonderful book. In addition, it's a real learning adventure for any gay man who plans to be or is a world traveler. The knowledge and experiences Joseph presents to us are as relevant today as when he first traveled on his annual pilgrimages. Joseph has always had an insatiable curiosity and desire to learn new languages and study other countries customs. It's through his experiences that we get to share an intellectual and sexual history of one gay man's adventures as a world traveler.

I started reading this book early one evening and couldn't put it down till early the next day. We can certainly learn a lot from other's experiences and that is definitely true in this case. It will take you away, excite you, and open your eyes, all at the same time. I truly enjoyed and highly recommend this book. I look forward to this author's future endeavors. ...

It's worth
This is a set of papers written by Stigler in his marvelous career. It is divided into 5 parts: I. Contributions to economics; 2. contributions to political economics; 3. contributions to industrial organization; 4. history of economic thought; 5. the wit of George Stigler.

It is very difficult to gather all these 23 articles in only one place. The book is worth because you can find a bunch of deep knowledge.

Enjoy the book, revisit old ideas very clear and well written, and perhaps get other ones.

Great book for beginners
I read this book while attending Professor Nellis's course for my bank. Prior to that I have never studied any economics. Prof Nellis succeeds in his book to unravel economic intricacies to laymen like me. He makes the subject extremely easy to understand. His inspiring style of teaching reminds me of the great physicist Richard Feynman.

Essentialy Essential Beuys
This book is a great introduction and overview of Beuys difficult and varied work. It contains many photos, which are enormously important to gain understanding of an artist whose work is frequently ephemeral and time based. There are also essays which touch on the myths surrounding Beuys, both of his own making and subsequent to his death. The relationship between this creating of a personal mythology and the materials he uses becomes evident.

Brian Wells, Esquire, reviews the Essential Stalin
This is an excellent little primer of the important writings of Joseph Stalin. Limited as it is, the book, nontheless, provides great insight into the struggles going on in the Soviet Union during the entire time from 1905 until 1952.

Additionally, the Forward written by Bruce Franklin, provides an excellent contex for the writings and dispels many of the myths perpetuated in the West about recent Soviet history.
