If I could give it fewer stars, I would
I bought this (quite expensive and surprisingly small) book thinking I would learn how to use Authorware. The book is definitely not for beginners. It assumes you already are a skilled Authorware user, and discusses mostly advanced topics. Since I have no Authorware skills, I cannot comment on how well it handles these advanced topics, but I have read other reviews by advanced readers and they were none too impressed also. It is hard to say what exactly is the target audience for the book.

The Ultimate Authorware Tutorial : A Complete Waste
As an experienced Authorware user, I am continually seeking advanced material for the my trade as an educational resource developer. This book is perhaps the worst written and ill logically conceived book since Guttenberg. My advice, save your money. Mr. Schifman and Mr. Gancy should be ashamed of them selves.

Not for the novice
Although I know something of authorware. This book left me in the dark at times. The book contains a number of words spelled incorrectly, which you would think, for the price, would have been edited more thoroughly. At times you have to read and re-read passages to try to figure out what is going on. The tutorials given are not thorough enough. It would be nice to know what one is doing and get into more detail. Most of the book is not really a tutorial, it is more informational.

This book is HORRIBLE!
This is the WORST book I've ever seen. The authors assume that calculus and differential equations are the second nature to the readers and use complicated mathmatical derivations without any explanation. Furthermore, the topics covered in this book are just too broad and disorganized. After reading a chapter, I wonder, "what is this chapter about?"
Don't buy this book--the only reason that I bought this book is because we use this text book in our class. And only after one term, I am thinking about buying another text. This book is an absolute waste of money.

A really confusing text
This book is not intended for first time learner or a person who wants to study in depth about P-Chem or Bio-P-Chem.
If it were not due to uc berkeley's requirement, I would NEVER buy this.
The text is lacking of derivations. Easy problems are made to be too complicated. I had to refer to my physics book in order to do the problems.
I would not recommend anyone to buy this.

Prepare to buy suplementary text
This book is packed with information!!!... now good luck trying to sort through it all. The book is not organized very well, and in deriving some of the equations, they fail to explain how they reached the next step. For the part on Thermodynamics, they brush over some parts that I thought would be important in understanding the whole picture. If you already understand Biophysical Chemistry, this book could be for you, but if it is your first time learning the material, I would try another text.

Story of a Bill: Legalizing Homeschooling in Pennsylvania

Don't Believe This Man
I have never read such an unbelievable essay of self-congratulations in my life! I've spoken to some of the personalities mentioned in this book, and they have a different story of what occured way back in 1987-89 in the homeschooling community in Pennsylvania. Howard Richman trashes Christians in this book and appoints and portrays himself as the intellectual arm of the Pennsylvania Homeschooling Community. He is currently making an incredible income off of the very law he helped to write....have your barf bag ready if you read this book.

Tippy

This Guy Is Breaking His Arm Patting Himself on His Back
I've researched the events and 'characters' that appear in this book. A better explanation of how Pennsylvania got the worst homeschooling law (thanks to Richman) can be found in Karl Reed's book, Chapter ten.

Learn how Eldredge and Richman strong-armed the true organizer of change - Ann Cameron - out of the process.

Scary man makes scary law to scare homeschoolers
this teacher union member has the audacity to boast about a law that he put in place and from which he makes a ton of money. Keep your money and don't buy his book - its filled with misinformation and self-serving lauding.

punctuation is a problem
This book could possibly be very good if it was not for the lack of commas and full stops it makes it near impossible to make sense of the narrative and it becomes tedious having to reread every page especially when the subject matter is so dull if you enjoyed reading this review which contained no punctuation than you may just enjoy this tedious book

Unique setting, difficult read.
Gas Station, a story that could probably take place in anyrural town, is a true slice of the typical average American dream. Itis a story, (well not really) more like a snap-shot of a young adolescent boy who's coming of age. In this Joeseph Torra captures the many thoughts that we all have in life. Your first beer, your first cigarette, how you view yoru parents and the immediate world that surrounds you.

However, the book lacks plot. There is no climax, no intricate story, just a time slice of a young man's life.

The difficulty in this book is its rhythm. I found myself re-reading sections of the book because of the lack of where a sentance starts and where it ends. Without punctuation, you find many thoughts becomming a blur and it takes time to sort them all out into cohesive thoughts to digest.

The myriad of characters had much promise, and I would have liked to see many of their motivations, but they were discussed. Touch for a book that is $11.95

Lack of plot and punctuation not a hindrance for this book.
I didn't seem to have the same problems with this book as the other reviewers. I found the lack of punctuation and linear narrative very liberating, casting the whole book in the hazy light of memory and hindsight. The fluidity of the prose was in keeping with the flow of reminiscence of a bittersweet time gone past, of captured moments that slip by. Maybe it's just because I've read a lot of Faulkner and the Beat writers that I'm used to this kind of writing style.

The lack of a plot only served to increase this tone for me. When looking at "slice-of-life" stories, plot usually isn't my primary consideration; what compels me is how the protagonist (or the writer) seeks to find meaning in the mundane, the repetitive, the significant and the overwhelming events of an ordinary life...."ordinary" in the sense that it could just as well be yours or mine.

This is not a spectacular book, it is not the best book I've ever read, but it doesn't deserve to be written off as pointless or difficult. It is a glimpse into a time and place that I would not otherwise have ever known, and in terms of its structure, it is fascinating. Again, not a classic, but well worth a place on my bookshelf.

Typhoon and Other Tales
Published in Paperback by Signet Classics (01 October, 1963)
Author: Joseph Conrad
Amazon base price: $3.95
Used price: $1.90
Average review score:

Huh? What was that about????????????
I basically have no idea what the author was writing about throughout the whole entire story. Conrad confused me...obviously he was very confused when he wrote it, too! Also, if he was trying to convey a story about a couple of fruity people in Typhoon, it worked!!!

What?
Basically that is what I was asking myself through the entire book. What is going ON? I dunno, something abt a typhoon and these two gay guys on a ship I think ... Conrad needed a therapist. I think he was confused.

This is a good book if you only look deeper...
For the other reviewers, I can't believe that the only things you gathered from the book was that it was about 2 gay men and a typhoon. The book is about how people react in times of crisis, and how sometimes you can't run away from your problems; you have to face them head-on. We have MacWhirr, who is innocent, calm, and quiet, yet unwaivering and unknowingly bold during the time of disaster. Then there's Jukes, who jabbers constantly, passes judgement on people, and during time of crisis he freezes, is mostly pessimistic, and practically daydreams. And finally, there's the second mate, who is an all around sneaky and immoral person, who during bad times often "jumps ship" and declares defeat before it's even begun. MacWhirr says many times throughout the story that you have to face things, and you don't know if somethings really bad unless you have been right in the middle of it. It's a story about a man who's had his normal, peaceful life turned upside-down by an unrelenting and, in the end, revealing storm.

Mark My Words
Published in Hardcover by Alba House (October, 1996)
Author: Joseph O'Hanlon
Amazon base price: $19.95
Average review score:

Little academic or pastoral merit
In this treatment of homiletics this charactor O'Hanlon is scatter brained and inconclusive. It is an enigma as to why such low quality scholarship is allowed to trickle into the scholarly realm - it never, never should have been released. As a Catholic priest and seminary professor myself, I realize the vast import of offering sound and intellectually well constructed text books for seminary students. O'Hanlon suffers from a sort of meglomania in his writting and makes the reader automatically scoff at his ego-centric and grandiose style. I have heard rumors amongst my collegues that this O'Hanlon suffers from manic depression and severe alchoholism and should be treated in a mental home for these serious disorders. From a reading of this piece of rubbish he calls a book I am forced, as relunctant as I am, to agree with this diagnosis. Why does the Church and publishing world allow such debased books to be released?

Poorly Written
Within the context of homiletics as a valid academic discipline, O'Hanlin's book is a complete piece of non-sense. He proffers an expanded magazine article which is not all that good. How this fellow ever got published is a great enigma.

Oh Please!
Stop making fun of my dad, youse lousy wankers!

Mergers & Acquisitions: Managing the Transaction

Let us be serious!
This book insults the intelligence of any reader who owns at least one neurone. It also insults other true books concerning mergers and acquisitions. The advices the book contains are like this: "Warning! Don't pay twice for a company. You pay once when you buy it, and you could pay twice if you need to restructure it". Please, pick your brains!

Merge This Book with a Trash Can
I had hoped to use this book as a training tool for my staff - - it's promoted as a guide to the process. However, after evaluating a copy, I believe the better course of action is to have them watch my six year old trade Pokemon cards. There is more logic and strategy behind his activity than in this entire book.

Excellent Primer, Not for The Detailed Practicioner
At a very high level, Krallinger hits the right points for someone totally unfamilliar with the territory. His bulletted writing style makes for quick, easy reading, but requires you to do the reflection on them later on. I sympathize with other reviewers who found this book pithy and shallow, but they may have been looking for a much more detailed tome. This book prepares the reader to recognize at a high level what the issues are and provides a framework for working through them. That's it. It was perfect for me -- I had one night to think of good things to say before making a presentation that included some M&A issues the next day. All I needed was to be able to identify the issues. For that this is an excellent book. If you really spend time to deconstruct the bullet points, it is probably more profound, and for better or worse, the author left that work to the reader instead of writing a 1,000 page book.

Thank god I'm not the only one!!!
I worked through the 6 biological sections and found multiple mistakes. Eventhough my copy is from 96, they still haven't changed the test format in the 2000 revision. In fact all of the incorrect answers are still in the new book.

A few caveats; 1. the review sections aren't the worst. I read through them for a general level of understanding. For any in depth information refer to a textbook. 2. The physical science section is difficult. However, if you can work through the tests it will help..

This book is not as good as it promises to be.
Although this book does have six full exams as promised, they are not in proper mcat format and do not match the difficulty level of the real exam. It is an O.K. book if you want to reinforce the basics, but your performance on these exams would be a poor indicator on how you would do on the actual test.

what a waste
this is a really terrible book! The verbal section has only 7 passages. It really messes your timing up when you are really taking the test. Plus, the questions are a joke. The physical sciences and bio. sections are filled with errors, which required way too many calculations in a timed test. The mcat is about timing, strategy, and intelligence. This text fails at two out of these three criteria. The latter is due inheritance. And the editor claims that this text is up-to-date(Actual Publishing date is 1991).

Not the best out there,...
The author assumes far too much from his readers. Additionally, this book is difficult to manuever through and needs a thorough updating and clean-up. If you're looking to learn enough Maltese to just get by, then pick up Hippocrene's Maltese/English Phrasebook.

Maltese : A Complete Course for Beginners (Teach Yourself)
Mr Aquilina's book was the first modern "learn Maltese" title readily available outside Europe. However, it is one of the very few in the Teach Yourself series which the publisher has yet to "modernise", i.e. bringing it up-to-date (even re-authoring it) and adding tapes with native speakers. It is only relatively recently that Teach Yourself have begun to add culture notes, pitching themselves more at the middle-of-the-road learner who is keen on travel, rather than the academic. A plea therefore to the publisher: please update this one so that more can learn and travel to this wonderful country!

A good start
This book is decent for learning the Maltese language. Unfortunately it is confusing at times and complex...written for a linguist. If used in conjunction with another Maltese language book, then it is very useful. Unless you visit Malta, then there are very few Maltese language books to choose from - this one's better than nothing.

Not helpful
The answers directly follow the questions, which are not useful to make you think about organic chemistry. Very dissapointing.

A WASTE OF MONEY
THE TYPES OF PROBLEMS THAT YOU WILL GET IN CLASS WILL NEVER BE AS SIMPLE OR COMPLEX AS THE ONES IN THIS BOOK. YOUR BETTER OFF DOING THE QUESTIONS OUT OF THE TEXT BOOK FOR YOUR CLASS!

Check It Out From Your Library
The book is your source to a plethora of additional problems. Yet don't expect the exam problems to be similar to those you find in this Schaum series. You might find some of these problems extra strenuous or over-simplified. For all the major functional groups, the book does provide lots of practice problems in reaction products, reactivity, and stereochemistry. You might need to cover up the solutions which immediately follow the questions. Students should foucs on soloving the mechanism-type of problems from textbooks before looking at this book. Check this out from your library!
