A decent purchase
I found this book to be helpful for the most part. My recommendation would be to use this book AND spend the 25 bucks for your T.V.'s service manual. Do an internet search or something, they're out there. Mine came on a disk from an online company. As usual, the flow charts in the service manual were next to useless. However, using the information in this book in combination with the schematics and part info in the service manual, I was able to repair my TV. Don't expect to fix your TV with just this book. It tells you exactly what parts to look at, but without your TV's service manual, you can't equat them to your specific TV. An example, a rather common fault is for the Horizontal Output Transistor to go bad. This fault, and how to correct it is stated in the book. That's all fine and dandy, but without your TV's service manual, you'll have no idea which transistor is YOUR Horizontal Output Transistor. My only grip is that Amazon stated that this was a hardback. It's not. It's a softcover. Good Luck.

A Projection TV repair person's, right hand! A Must have !
I would like to thank the people responsible for the compilation of this book. The repairman has stil has a job to do, and books like these will keep our hopes alive! Someone out there still belives in the repair business.

Thanks for this informative book.

Comprehensive Persian-English Dictionary

The Steingass Comprehensive Persian-English Dictionary
Steingass's dictionary is a useful tool for all those studying the Persian language, and in particular to those more interested in poetry and classical Persian. This comprehensive dictionary includes not only words and phrases, but also pronunciation aids (especially important for reading poetry). There are words in the dictionary which are not usually used in modern Persian, but on the whole it is an important and significant tool for Persian researchers and students.

Classical Persian lexicon
As the reviewer from Jerusalem says, an excellent dictionary which ought to be on the shelf of any Persianist. But... the book is a hundred years old and Modern Persian is significantly different, so don't buy it expecting to use it for the newspaper.

Inadequacies of Hart's concept of a rule
Hart insists that there are many differen kinds of rules - he only 'elucidetes social rules' -but he also accepts that not all legal rules are social rules. What then are they? The foundation of his account of a social rule is an aspect of the form of life (vide Wittgenstein) underlying the use of language - but it is life without the multiplicity of activity at any one time and without conflict.

a seminal text on legal philosophy and jurisprudence
One of the most important books written in the field of jurisprudence and legal philosophy. A must-read for anyone who wants to talk intelligently about the topic. Each of Dr. Hart's chapters has been the springboard for entire areas of discussion since its publication, such as law as a system of rules, the separation of law and morality, etc. After you finish this book, read Prof. Dworkin's critique in "The Model of Rules," 35 Univ.Chi.L.Rev. 14 (1967) (excerpted in "The Philosophy of Law") and Prof. Dworkin's "Taking Rights Seriously" to see how Hart's theories have affect jurisprudential scholarship since the publication of this text in 1961. Again, if one had to select the top thinkers in the field, it's Austin, Hart, and Dworkin.

Good Reference and Summary
This book is just what the title implies, a collection of photographs and a roster of Cotton Belt locomotives. The St. Louis Southwestern (the corporate name for the Cotton Belt) has a long and distinguished history and Strapac shows the equipment that made the trains go. The text is detailed, photo reproduction good, and the captions informative. Students of locomotive development and how the SSW fit into the larger SP family will find much of interest here.

Cotton Belt Locomotives
This book is a MUST HAVE for all Cotton Belt History Buffs and Railroad Modelers. Very informative and chock full of great photos and write-ups. Wish I had bought it long ago!

CREEPY COUNTING
THIS IS AN EXCELLENT HALLOWEEN THEMED COUNTING BOOK. WHILE NOT TIED DIRECTLY TO HALLOWEEN, HUCK'S VERSES AND SMITH'S ILLUSTRATIONS TOUCH ALL THE SCARY BASES - A SCARECROW, TOADS, JACK-O-LANTERNS, OWLS, BATS, WITCHES, GHOSTS, CATS, SKELETONS, AND MICE - IT'S ALL HERE. THE PICTURES ARE TAME ENOUGH NOT TO FRIGHTEN OFF THE YOUNGEST OF LEARNERS WHILE BEING DETAILED ENOUGH TO ENGROSS THE REST. I SPOTTED THIS BOOK WHILE BROWSING THE BOOKSTORE. DID I BUY IT FOR MY CHILDREN? NOPE, THEY'RE ALREADY TEENAGERS. I BOUGHT IT FOR ME AS HALLOWEEN IS MY FAVORITE HOLIDAY AND I LOVED THE ILLUSTRATIONS. AND YES, I COULD ALREADY COUNT. HAPPY HALLOWEEN !

A Creepy Countdown
A Creepy Countdown involves a scarecrow, two toads, three jack-o-lanterns, four owls, five bats, six witches, seven ghosts, eight cats, nine skeletons and ten mice. I assure you that you're little children will be amazed by the little details of the pencil drawings. What I liked was all of the little grave stones. I was amazed by the excellent rhyming. And if you look very closely at the sides of each page, you can see masks dangling over the trees. Be on the 'look-out' for Jos. A. Smith's drawing book named The Pen and Ink Book. I hope that you have a extraordinary Halloweenific time this Halloween. Boo!

GOOD AND INFORMATIVE
I THOUGHT THE BOOK WAS VERY IMFORMATIVE AND CONSIDRING THE BOOK WAS WRITTIN SO FAR AFTER WORLD WAR II, THE GI'S MEMORIES WERE SO VIVID AND TRAMATIC. AFTER VISITING DACHAU IN PERSON AND BEING INFORMED OF THE ATROCITIES, THE ACCOUNTS WERE ALL TO REALISTIC. I WOULD DEFINITALY SAY THIS IS A MUST READ ABOUT DACHAU.

Emotionally rewarding account of april 29, 1945
It was very moving to find my fathers'name mentioned in this book on page 229. The camps he was sent to by the Nazi's and his liberation by the Rainbow Divisions have left a permanent mark on my life. I would like to thank Dee Eberhart for bringing me in contact with this publication of Sam Dann. Sonja Holtz Arendse, Member of the Dutch Dachau Committee.

History made interesting
My son has a passion for Ancient Egypt. As a homeschool mom I have tried to encourage this, however, I felt that he should understand that history did not come to a screeching halt in Egypt after the death of Tutankhamen. In reading this book we not only enjoyed a page turning adventure that we couldn't put down, we also opened up an entirely new line of study. My son even wrote mock news paper articles in the, "Language of the time," bearing the sad news of the defeat of the Gallant Gordon. This book was invaluable in our study.

Aviation enthusiasts will enjoy it
I purchased Dauntless Marine out of curiosity since my father was a member of VMSB 133 - another USMC scout bombing squadron in WWII. I really enjoyed the book. Dauntless Marine is an interesting account of U.S. Marine Corp. action in America's first major offensive against Japan in World War II. It also provides a fascinating look at the dangerous tactic of dive bombing - a lost "art" so to speak - and the nature of a dedicated and skillful pilot. It should appeal to those interested in military history, WWII, and aviation.

The music is heard at last for an unsung hero!
A meticulously researched tribute to a loved one lost. Alexander White undertakes to tell the story of his late uncle: Navy Cross winner, Joseph Sailer Jr. "Dauntless Marine" is the story of an American hero's life and death. The book takes the reader from a survey of Sailer's Philadelphia roots, through his academic and career accomplishments (including a top secret mission to the UK) before finally landing at the far flung shores of Guadalcanal. Anecdotal gems are liberally spread throughout the text. Dauntless Marine is an American story through and through and a testament of one man's courage and devotion to duty. Tome on DIA covers all bases
Lessons Learned is a long-winded tome on DIA and the complexities of airport management and design. Most of the book's facts and information are derived from already published sources. I would have liked to have seen exclusive interviews with the actual people involved in the making of DIA (politicians, workers, et al) -- this book is simply devoid of the investigative touch. Nevertheless, a lot of time and work went into writing Lessons Learned, of which the authors deserve credit. DIA is a story worthy of the 500 plus pages of material, unfortunately Lessons Learned drifts off into territory that will only interest those involved in airport design and management -- some of the technical discussion is boring and does not pertain to DIA directly. The book does explain in detail the political maneuvering within Denver that went into the making of DIA -- this material is the most interesting part of the book. In conclusion, if you share an interest in DIA or airports, get this book. I did and I don't regret it.

A few words about the author
I had the extraordinary good fortune to have Paul Dempsey as a professor at the University of Denver College of Law. DU Law School is nationally, if not internationally, recognized as having one of the best transportation law programs in the United States. Paul Dempsey is, more than anyone, responsible for this honor. He regularly travels the globe as a consultant in all areas of transportation law. In the year I had Professor Dempsey, he went to China and Italy to consult with the local governments. Dempsey is also a founding and continuing member of the board of Frontier Airlines. If you are a CNN junkie, you've probably seen Dempsey testifying before Congress. In short, if you want the definitive inside scoop on the airline industry, and the building of DIA, you're not likely to find a more informed person than this guy.

Dempsey is a prolific author, and a highly respected academic. He has published far more than what you see listed here at Amazon.com.

For more information on Paul Dempsey, check out his exhaustive listing of publications at http://www.law.du.edu/support/facbibs/dempsey.htm. For even more information on Professor Dempsey, you can see Frontier Airlines latest 10K report at http://www.sec.gov/edaux/formlynx.htm

Analyzing Manufacturing Processes "101"
As a quality assurance manager whose educational background is in management rather than engineering, I had the privilege of using this book as a college text.
I cannot say how well I would have fared by using this book as a stand-alone tool, but it was a valuable tool in my college Design of Experiments course.
We use DOE to a point in my company, a plastics molder. In our business, however, many quality inspections are of the attribute properties, such as appearance, rather than actual, measurable variables. That is no fault of this book; however, it is frustrating that I am not able to utilize DOE more.
The book delivers its message fairly clearly, keeping in mind that I went through it page by page with an experienced instructor. It is not necessary to be a mathematical wizard to use this book, although an understanding of basic statistics would be helpful.
Anyone involved in a manufacturing operation with mutliple variables in the process would be advised to learn more about DOE, and this book would be a valuable resource, particularly for those with an engineering background.

A Very Practical Introduction to Design of Experiments(DOE)
This book was recommended to me by a quality manager of long experience and it was a very good recommendation. Having aquired an engineering degree before DOE became very widespread, I have largely had to educate myself in DOE methodology. "Designing for Quality" is written in plain language and has easy to understand directions and tables to use both in designing your experiments and analysing the resulting data. With this book, I planned, conducted and analysed data from several experiments before I ever had the assistance of a knowlegable practitioner of DOE. When I gained such assistance, I had my results and conclusions from these experiments confirmed. I am now Quality Manager for a plant of 650 employees and when I need to teach DOE, whether to an experienced engineer or a novice technician, "Designing for Quality" is the text I always use.
