Wonderful insights and solid information about an important subject; design that increases our comfort and our independence now and as we get older. James Pirkl has taken a complex and broad subject and made it easy to grasp(!) Color photographs of many user-friendly products illustrate his timely information about the various challenges we face as we age. We enjoyed his perspective on bathroom design and plan to expand his ideas into all aspects of home design. An excellent reference and source of inspiration; giving us tools to design products (and homes) that support independent living.

After a few heady years, isolation, imperialist invasion, civil war and economic backwardness exhausted the progressive energy of the Russian Revolution, decimating the Bolshevik cadres and wearying the masses. In an atmosphere of defeat and disillusion, a reactionary bureaucracy seized power, throwing up Stalin as dictator of the party and the state. Leon Trotsky, co-leader with Lenin of the October Revolution, was forced into exile. From there he tried to rally revolutionary forces to reform the Russian Party and Stalin's Comintern.

With the coming to power of Hitler in 1933, Trotsky declared the Third International beyond hope of reform and called for a new international. He penned volumes analyzing the bloody caricature of socialism taking shape in the USSR. In 1939 the Fourth International was founded at a congress representing a handful of tiny parties in a dozen countries with virtually no mass base in any unions or workers organizations.

The Transitional Program is the FI's founding document. Written by Trotsky, it makes an audacious claim on the leadership of the international workers movement.

While such a claim seems startling and even absurd for this little, rump group, and while events proved Trotsky's rag-tag followers unequal to the task of seizing the leadership of the worldwide socialist movement, this historic document correctly states the axiom that the crisis of the world class struggle has been reduced to a crisis of revolutionary leadership.

In the Transitional Program, Trotsky accurately describes what is at stake for humanity in the contest for power between the ruling class and the toiling masses--socialism or barbarism. Sixty years later the oppressed majority of the world's peoples suffers under the increasingly ruthless and brutal alternative to socialism forecast by Trotsky in The Death Agony of Capitalism and the Tasks of the Fourth International. The crisis of revoluionary leadership is more acute than ever.

Being in the Transportation & Logistics Field myself. I found this book to be quite a comprehensive collection of information and terms, needed when you are in this field. I consider this a "must-have" for anyone in this field.

Trapped on Lowell Mountain is a wonderful book that is very exciting and a great adventure, especially when wolves attack John and his dog, Max. There is something suspensful happening in every chapter. I'd recommend it to children of all ages. A must read!

An absolute treasure!! A long overdue collection of one of the 20th century's most overlooked writers. His style and wit are of the highest caliber. Any lover of food, travel and style will have a field day with this.

Deftly edited by Marguerite McGlinn, The Trivium: The Liberal Arts Of Logic, Grammar, And Rhetoric by Sister Miriam Joseph Rauh (1898-1982) is a "user friendly" guidebook to better understanding the structure and usage of the English language. Individual chapters address everything from syllogisms, to common linguistic fallacies, to hypothetical and disjunctive propositions, and more. A superbly presented and accessible guidebook The Trivium offers a solid grounding for writers of all degrees of experience and background in fiction, nonfiction, as well as especially academic writing where the interpretations and literal truth of linguistic expression is under an exacting scrutiny. The Trivium is a highly recommended and welcome contribution to any serious and dedicated writer's reference collection.

If you are looking for an in-depth history of the life of Joseph Smith, Jr., the founder of the LDS Church, then this book is a good choice. It covers his life from birth until death. What's more; the book is also very entertaining....some of the material is comical! Besides being a biography, the book also contains some discussion as to the sources, accuracy and divine origin of the Book of Mormon. ( The copy I read is from the Branigan Library in Las Cruces, NM - I provide this info since it appears to be hard to find.)

It is a sin that this book is out of print, and a crime that it is not recognized and universally cited as an authoritative statement on its subject. Conlin lays bare the unspoken truth about "the Movement" of the 1960s: that it was a pageant of self-expression performed by pampered children of the privileged classes, full of sound and fury but signifying nothing. To boot, this is a scathingly funny read.
