An interesting introduction to Stalin
Many of us have heard how terrible Stalin was but when you read him and of his arguments it really brings across the difficulties he had to face. Having said that there is much here which an advanced marxist-leninist could disagree with but all the same the best thing is to read his version of events directly.

Brain Wayne Wells, Esquire, reviews "Selected Works"
This is a collection of articles written by and speeches made by Jos. Stalin over the course of the entire period of time from 1904 until 1952. Each of the articles are important for the period of time for which it was written. However, because the articles come from such widely divergent periods of time, the reader will notice some disjointedness between the articles.

To cure this disjointedness the reader should read the articles on a selected basis with a survey book of Soviet history of the same ear to get a true picture of the signifiance of the particlar article.

remarkable in its depth
"Selected writings of Pierre-Joseph Proudhon" is an accessible and informative collection of the revolutionary thought of one of contemporary history's more visionary yet obscure philosophers. Envisioning a society based on reciprocity, collaboration and spontaneous free association, Proudhon based this model of society on the ethical concept of self-respect - self-respect begets respect for oneĀfs neighbour. Remarkable in its depth of understanding, "Selected writings of Pierre-Joseph Proudhon" is a must read for anyone interested in anarchist thought and its implications in the development of a truly democratic society.

Brian Wayne Wells, Esquire, reviews "Selected Writings"
In just 264 pages this book effectively conveys the essence of the philosophy of the founder of modern anarchism. Writing in the mid-nineteenth century, Proudhon's views still have relevance today.

His mutualism or anarcho-syndicalist style of anarchism attempts to fit into the realities of the industrial age rather than submerge itself in dreams of the pastoral agrarian past.

During the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939) the followers of Proudhon's style of anarcho-syndicalism were a major political party which controlled the city goverment of Barcelona and the Catelonian province in Spain. From this base they fought against Franco's fascists on the side of the Spanish Republic.

Great Real-World Advice
As an MBA candidate who spends far too much time reading textbooks, I found Seven Keys a welcome change in my business reading. It's readable, well-organized, full of real-world examples, and it lets me quickly know how I can ready an organization for effective strategic account management. These authors clearly have busy people in mind. I read the chapters that were of particular interest and then I read the remainder. Time well-spent.

Common-Sense Guidance Just in Time!
We just launched what we thought was a
strategic account program for our largest
customers last year, but I just learned
from this book that it's actually a key
account program in disguise.

Now we can use the authors' common-sense
guidance to focus on the customers who
truly have strategic potential, align our
entire company behind the initiative instead
of just the sales force, and set up an
account manager development program that
really works. Great job!

Compelling story!
I highly recommend this compelling story about a man's quest to find his niche in life, amid numerous trials and tribulations. Only the end of the story will tell you if our hero finds acceptance and love or if he climbs naked to the top of the factory and picks off his coworkers with a shotgun one by one! This story kept this reader engaged from Chapter One til the last word, a real page turner! I eagerly await the arrival of this author's next work!

Establish a life-long enthusiasm for nature
Joseph Cornell is the author of Sharing Nature With Children (1883220734, $9.95) and Sharing Nature With Children II (1883220874, $9.95). This two volume set showcase nature studies and appreciation activities that any parent, teacher, or child care provider can readily engage in with children. Ann appreciation for the complex and interrelated life forms that comprise the exosphere of their environments is a solid basis to establish a life-long enthusiasm for nature and the out-of-doors, as well as a lasting commitment to environmental issues and concerns. Each volume is available independently, but school and community libraries are urged to acquire them both for the nature activities and environmental reference collections.

Good to Have Around
This is a good book to have around when looking for ideas on how to increase our enjoyment and appreciation of nature. While the title says the book is for Sharing Nature with _Children_, the ideas are fun for adults too.

I like how the author provides a four-part framework for the activities described in the book, classifying them as awakening enthusiasm, focusing attention, directing experience, or sharing inspiration.

I also like the stories the author tells about his experiences in environmental education. I could feel his enthusiasm coming through in the stories. Plus, the quotations that open various sections of the book added to my enjoyment.

I found the directions for each activity to be adequate, with a nice range of activities to suit different people and interests. The original Sharing Nature with Children provides more of the same, and the revised edition of the original book incorporates the four-part framework.

I hope you enjoy the book and will use it to not only spend more time enjoying nature but also will be inspired by it to spend more time protecting nature so that future generations can share in this enjoyment.

Shattering The Darkness Indeed!
Don't read this book if you are not willing to be heart-wrenchingly challenged. Foreman effectively makes the distinction between committing to a social cause and picking up one's cross. They are not necessarily one and the same thing. It will not be rallies or political strategies or demonstrations alone that will deliver the death blow to abortion. The call is to the church to embrace the cross. It is the power of the cross that revolutionizes the culture and transforms every facet of life from marriage to business to politics and so on, rescuing those areas from darkness.

This book should be in every Christian's library.

Shattering the Darkness Indeed!
I give you fair warning - don't read this book if you are not willing to be heart-wrenchingly challenged. Foreman makes an effective distinction between committing to a social cause and picking up one's cross. They are not necessarily one and the same thing. It will not be rallies, political strategies or demonstrations alone that will deliver the death blow to the evil of abortion. The call is for the church to embrace the cross. It is the power of the cross that rescues and transforms every facet of life, from marriage to business to politics and so on. Joseph Foreman says this:

"When we get to the heart of it, Rescue is putting God first by obeying Him when He tells us to put others first. Rescue is doing it in a way which sacrifices our benefit and comfort for another's, whether on the mission field, in our churches, in our marriages, in our careers, or at the abortion factories. Rescue is when we physically intervene to protect someone in a way which does not hurt anyone and which causes us to throw in our lot, our reputation, and our future with the one whose life has been declared refuse: we become refuse with him in the name of Christ who became refuse for us."

Shattering the Darkness is one of the most penetrating and relevant messages on the cross that I've read. It draws me back again and again.

An eye opening read
This is an amazing book about lies, double lives and secret sexuality. If you have not already, buy it - read it!

In this book, Joseph has tapped into a world foreign to most of us. This world is one where married men actively seek out sex from other men at beats and other places.

Joseph advertised in a local paper asking men to contact her if they were in a married or defacto relationship who are (or want to) have sex with other men.

The book then goes on to detail excerpts of the stories and interviews Joseph had with these anonymous men. Many of the men tell Joseph that they love their wives, but they need sex with other men. Others tell Joseph that they do not identify as homosexual. Joseph's amazement and intrigue in what she is discovering is evident in what she writes.

To complete the picture, Joseph includes interviews with women who have found out after years of marriage to men they love (and have children with) that their husbands have been procuring sex in this way. Joseph has included informationand interviews with counsellors, health workers and people who work on beats.

The perspectives shed light on this world - a world that is bigger than I would ever have imagined.

I read this book on an aeroplane trip, and kept looking around thinking 'I wonder if that man does that,' 'Or him', or 'her husband'!

The book is well written and readable - but what makes the book incredible is the unknown world it unclothes. An amazing read.

Fantastic
After seeing Dr. Stowell at a conference, I was excited to get this book. If you are a Christian, just getting by ... read this book! It will challenge you, and make you re-think about your walk with Jesus. It is top notch, and lists many verses to study in the bible.

Get it, read it, and get closer to Christ!

It's All ABOUT JESUS
A very popular catch-phrase used in our day is "It's not about you" often accompanied by "It's all about you.." and whatever claims the speaker wants to enunciate. However, as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we are learning that it is "All About Jesus." And "Simply Jesus" by Joseph M Stowell, President of the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago helps to clarify just that position.

In his own warm, inimitable, and engaging way, Stowell helps to paint the portray as it should be painted...God's Son, Jesus Christ our Lord as the main object and center of all the Universe. In nine short chapters, the author describes his own personal journey into the heart of God in loving relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ through many illustrations from his own life (being invited to the White House, dining with Billy and Ruth Graham, and growing up in his dad's church) and that of friends and family. This is done with great humor which is both candid and sensitive to those being illustrated, as well as his target audience.

Just because this is an easy read doesn't mean that it is either boring, cliche-ish, or shallow. It is none of those. What it is will be many things to each different reader.

For me, it was a clear, inviting, and compassionate call to know Christ more...and not just more about Him. But to know and love Him more, and to let Him love me as only He can.

After all, it is "simply Jesus."

Get this book...give it away after you read it!

Montgomery 1, Fletcher 0
This transcribed debate is between John Warwick Montgomery, Lutheran theologian, and Joseph Fletcher, situation ethicist. Fletcher actually founded the particular school of thought of situation ethics, which argues that anything evil a person can do is morally acceptable provided it is done for the "right" reasons and because of love. Obviously, Fletcher does not characterize these acts as evil, but some people who can see that the emperor has no clothes will readily pick up on the subterfuge. Montgomery, on the other hand, is a man who says he was "dragged kicking and screaming to the foot of the cross." As a young adult and an atheist, Montgomery set out to disprove Christianity and ended up being a believer. A brilliant man, he hold eight earned degrees, five of them on the doctoral level. He has also written at least 50 books, many of them very scholarly, is an accomplished French chef and connoisseur of French wines, and speaks French fluently. He has taught at the Sorbonne and more recently, he has been the dean of the Simon Greenleaf School of Law.

With grace, wit, and good humor, Montgomery tears Fletcher's philosophy to smithereens. He shows how ethically bankrupt Fletcher's philosophy is, and the consequences of its acceptance. Its impact on our society has been very destructive; this book couldn't be more timely. Even if you agree with Fletcher, read this book to enjoy a good intellectual dissection. Yet, this book is accessible to the average reader. Too many lives have been destroyed by the likes of Fletcher, and it is a pleasure to meet someone who can show the foolishness of this point of view. Make no mistake: those who support situation ethics will disagree with me and take comfort in what Fletcher has to say. But for those of us with discernment, it will be a pleasure to read Montgomery's treatment. This book needs to be widely circulated and read.

GREAT BOOK FOR THE BELIEVERS
I am a person that believes in the malleability of ethics...this book has permitted me to defend my points of view. i highly recommend it for anyone interested in the topic of ethics and how they change in different situations.
