Although you have to wonder just how much of this story was inflated by Joe Dogs, it still made for a great read. Joe makes no attempts to cover up the fact that he isn't a very good person but just tells his story like it is (with a few possible embellishments) in a way that can only pass for Joe Dogs' style. I have his "Mafia Cookbook" which includes some stories from his life as well.

companion for donnie brasco
this book is one of the funniest i've read since donnie brasco, not for the fan of shoot em up chop em up mob book.but funny the way joe dogs talks about "empty suits" when refering to FBI agents. The same incompetence donnie brasco found in his undercover work in the bonanno famiglia.good reading, couldn't put it down.

Greatest book on Fly Fishing
I have met Joe and he is the greatest teacher and most helpful person you will meet in learning fly fishing. The book will give you insight and knowlege beyond your years as a fly fisherman. Whether you just started fly fishing or are a seasoned veteran, this book will teach you some thing new and practical for fly fishing. If there was only one fly fishing book I could put on my shelf, this would be it.

Wonderful!
I have read many books on fly fishing but none as wonderfully informative and hard to put down as this one. Along with info. it is packed w/stories about the old times. Its really neat. I definitely recommend this to a beginner to get a great start. Or anyone, it teaches a lot. The techniques also work very well. Get this book!

This book is amazing. The art and architecture were the most inspiring thing I have seen or read in my entire life. Joe Valerio is one hell of an architect and if I were a large, up-and-coming corporation looking for a way to jump into the fast lane, I would say that having a building by Mr. Valerio would be #1 on my list.

This Book is a Collectable all by itself!
Josef Originals were figurines from my childhood and are a wonderful collectable to pass down through generations. This well illustrated book will delight any Josef collector. It begins with a short written history and jumps into many pages of clear pictures. Each page is a delight to view. This guide has a price listing in the back. Collect all three "Josef" books by the Authors Jim & K Whitaker. These books are indeed collectibles in themselves.

A wonderful pictorial guide to Josef Original figurines
I love this book. The photos are very clear and sharp. It has a great and easy to read price guide and background on the artist. Invaluable book if you collect Josef Original figurines!

WONDERFUL!
This book was fantastically written. I just finished reading it in two nights (couldn't put it down) and am ready to pick it up and read it again!

Excellent book!
This book was extremely well written. You actually feel as if you are in Egypt with Joseph. A great deal of reseach must have been done for this novel, the details and the historical elements were fantastic. This is a great read for everybody, even non-religious readers. Be sure you reserve time to read this, because you won't be able to put it down!

Mr. Osborn has done a tremendous amount of research in creating this well written and organized book. Documents the pioneer families Brunner/Bruner, Ramsburg, Getzendanner, and many others. Completely indexed and all source information is included. Case bound with glossy pages, this volume can be passed on to your descendants and will last for generations. It contains fascinating stories from original documents about the Brunner family line and their many descendents, along with extensive listings of lineage and current contacts of descendents. great photos and text
This work on Cornell is one of the best out there. The author gives a thorough history on the artist and delves into his motivations for making art. The works selected are comprehensive. Quite impressive are the quality of the photos, very clear and detailed.

Shadow Boxing with Cornell
While having a cohesive collection of photographs of Cornell's multiform works is a plus for any book, Hauptman gets out her microscope and unscrews his shadow boxes, exposing the seam attached to feminist and psychoanalytical critiques. In the process of her research, she delves into Cornell's research as obsession; obsession as research, illuminating his aesthetic and politicizing his seemingly-anti political sexuality. The photographs in this substantial book are excellent and well-chosen and the stills from Cornell's films add a cinematic dimension, often over-looked by Cornell scholars. This book, through close readings of many of Cornell's works, examines his obsession with childhood (& that great goddess of time), Lauren Bacall, Jennifer Jones, and the elusive Garbo (whose disapproval of one of Cornell's boxes, inspired him to destroy it [lucky for you a photo of it is included in this book]). Hauptman avoids the pitfall of falling into an oppositional critique along the lines of gender, yet brightens the sexual politics blurred in the shadow of the boxes. By the final chapter (dealing with Cornell's dedication to Marilyn Monroe (a most-unlikely sensual/sexual subject for a Cornell project), in which Hauptman very astutely identifies the problematics of Cornell's desire to be both master and guardian, I was watery in the eyes. This is a touching critique and underscoring of Cornell, who, for many reasons, some addressed in this book and some not, was both a failed and successful master and guardian--an artist collapsed in a paradox.

Joseph Stalin : man and legend
Published in Unknown Binding by Hutchinson ()
Author: Ronald Hingley

Average review score:

Stalin-man or beast?
This is a wonderful introduction into the life of Stalin and the history of the Russian Revolution. The author explains the difficulties involved with writing about a person like Stalin. The prejudices of writers, both within and without the Soviet Union, Communists and Non-Communists, believers and non-believers make for an interesting biography. Many questions will be unanwered for years to come. Highly recommended.

My Favorite Book on the Man of Steel
New books are still being written about Stalin, of course, incorporating new and interesting material from the newly opened files of the old Soviet Union. But none that I know of can compare with Hingley's.

Significantly, Hingley's most important facts concerning the dictator are still basically correct, while his judgment remains absolutely sterling. By all means read Volkogonov's new book - it's excellent - but there's not much in the newly discovered facts which renders Hingley's opinions and verdict wrong or obsolete. Don't forget, some of the mysteries surrounding Stalin's career, like the question of who really killed Kirov - probably Stalin did - will always remain unsolved because Stalin had all those involved put to death in the nick of time, while what files we may still have are merely those he had not destroyed. With his clerk-like mania for files, and his vampire-like bloodthirstiness, Stalin was very thorough in eliminating ALL evidence, whether in the form of paper.......or flesh and blood. So there's a real limit to how much new we can ever know.

I have most of the most important books ever written on Stalin in the English language, and none I know has managed to be so detached and objective on the one hand, and so devastatingly, gut-splittingly funny on the other, as Hingley's. Stalin's life is a deadly serious story if there ever was one, and Hingley manages to be humorous and scholarly at the same time - no mean feat. This book is a gem.

I think the three important things to remember about the little (he was 5'3", shorter than Napoleon) Georgian-turned-Russian Bolshevik is that he rose (contrary to his own and everyone's expectations) from nothing to become THE most powerful person who EVER lived in ALL human history, by far; that this murderous TYRANT played a key role (unwillingly at first) in the destruction of HITLER and Nazi Germany; and that he assisted (without desiring it) in the resurgence of CHINA. Of course he also gave a bad, bad name to Marxism......not that anyone else could have done any better!!

This is one of the finest books I've ever read and possessed. Finding it was a great stroke of luck.
