Excellent reference book
An excellent reference book on the chart activity of albums ranked on the Country LP charts in Cash Box Magazine. Entries include artist, title, catalog no., chart date, and week-by-week position on the chart. A section at the back shows the number one LPs for each week. You won't find any information on the artists themselves, but this is nevertheless an excellent resource for record collectors, discographers, and chart fanatics. Recommended as an addition to the Joel Whitburn Billboard books but not necessarily as a substitute.

Celestial Burn
Published in Paperback by The Sacred Beverage Press (01 April, 1999)
Authors: Jeanette Marie Clough, Amélie Frank, and Matthew Niblock
Amazon base price: $10.00
Used price: $8.99

Excellent Poetry
Her writing is delicate- almost brittle, like a glass sculpture, yet burns with a power that can only be achieved by one who is speaking the absolute truth. In her poem "Jury Selection," she describes herself standing in front of a judge and being asked if she's "ever had reason/ to doubt the integrity/ of a police officer." She proceeds into a simple and sparse narrative, describing a tense encounter between her sister and a sheriff on the side of an empty stretch of highway. In the space of a stanza, Clough creates a picture of absolute fear and helplessness before authority- all the stronger for the fact that the reader never finds out exactly what happened. You just learn that Clough is "excused with cause." This would be the metaphor that best fits this talented writer. She speaks her truth plainly, unflinchingly, and emerges victorious.

Heartwarming...
A heartwarming story of six generations of one family on farm in Michigan. Follow a farm family's dreams and use of technologies from horse powered days to the present. I particularly enjoyed "82 Reasons Why Farming is the Best Way of Life."

Changes in American Morality of the People, by the People, for the Self
Published in Paperback by iUniverse.com (August, 2001)
Author: Frank S. Farello
Amazon base price: $19.95
Average review score:

WE HAVE LOST OURSELVES
Frank S. Farello has "hit the nail on the head" when he states that America's moral fiber has deteriorated due to a combination of the removal of God and religion from the public forum, and an over-arching preoccupation with the needs of the self. Yes, the "common good" we Americans once so vigorously sought to attain is mostly on the wane, as we continue to seek ever greater levels of self-satisfaction at the expense of the greater whole of our society.
For those Americans seeking to understand and then begin to return this country to a moral, religious, and selfless collective - then read CHANGES IN AMERICAN MORALITY: OF THE PEOPLE; BY THE PEOPLE; FOR THE SELF.

Analytical summaries of the best of the literature
The Frontier Issues in Economic Thought summaries, along with the overview essays, provide a markedly different service from the standard collection of abstracts. The series will benefit not only scholarly work but the application of our best thinking to the problems of the times.

"Charisma" has it!
This is my first look at Jo Bannister's "Castlemere" police procedural series and I was very impressed with the quality of the writing as well as the overall plot; the authors characterizations are excellent instead of being the usual caricatures; based on this one book I would rate the "Castlemere" series as "don't miss it!!" It's a distinct pleasure to be introduced to a new series by a book this good, one of the best of the 300 plus mysteries I read each year.

Cheap Thrills, Florida: Florida (The Bottom Half)
Published in Paperback by Pineapple Pr (August, 1998)
Author: Frank Zoretich
Amazon base price: $9.95
Used price: $8.50
Average review score:

From the genius of curiosity comes opportunities for fun!
Mr. Zoretich is a master sleuth at finding and putting into the words the best of the out-of-the-way, the forgotten, the overlooked, the by-passed, yes, sometimes even downtrodden museum or a million other affordable places (and faces) that make up a great time for you to spend weeks of curious afternoons beating about in Florida.

The Sunshine State is a land full of extraordinary attractions, no doubt, but worthless if you don't know about them outside the gates of the themeparks. This book is a guide to seeing the side of Florida real people hope to see, the kind of people who like road side diners and listening to local dialects.

This book saves you from that nagging feeling that there is more to Florida (the bottom half) and your vacation than can be seen out the car window or discovered from the travel brochures, giving you answers AND directions to find the funky, the zany, the outrageous, the unbelievable, the cool.

Mr. Zoretich, in real life, is a quintessential journalist who lives to tell you about it, as zany as the zaniest just this side of Hunter Thompson (not really, he is from Cleveland but he is a character). He finds and writes about Americana in a way deserving of a Pulitzer. He writes about these people and their hidden places with wit, charm, and respect.

Buy this book and save your vacation if you are looking for more than the canned Disney or Miami Vice Floridian experience. Heck, buy the book and read it even if you are not going to Florida (or if you already live there--you'll learn something new about your state for sure).
