In the beginning, I was attracted by the cover image, like a monster with children. The strong visuals are so dramatic, across the contenients of countries with no border.

This is a wonderful book! It consists of black and white line drawing pictures that you move an acetate panel (or some sort of screen) over. This makes the images, amazingly, seem to come alive. Water flows, fire burns. Things move. The images are fascinating, not just for younger children, but perhaps especially for older children. It's truly a book that needs to be seen, because words cannot describe it. The concept of moving pictures with the paper-flat screen is amazing. I've searched everywhere to find this book again that I had as a ten-year-old, and finally found it here, almost a decade later. Still, the images the book presents linger in my mind.
