Good Source
This was a good resource. I would also suggest checking out takeyourpet.com where you can find thousands of pet-friendly lodging listings and free guides on traveling with your pet.

Execellent
This is an excellent book for those dog lovers out there. I am new to the Bay area, and I had no idea where to take my two dogs. The author is right on target with his doggy rating system. Great reference book. I highly recommend.

Good dictionary for beginning German speakers.
This English/German, German/English dictionary is the perfect aid for the beginning German speaker. It has pronounciation guides tailored for English speakers, sample sentences in English and German, plus gender, plurals, etc. for each word.

Because of the size of each entry, there is not the large number of words that other bilingual dictionaries contain, so it will be less useful for the advanced German speaker.

Overall, an excellent introduction to German.

Wish Intermediate and Advanced editions were available too.
I like the fact that, while decently large, this dictionary keeps its focus on fairly EASY German. With verb conjugations and example sentences to demonstrate the use of each and every word, I find it an easy way to boost my vocabulary without getting too side-tracked by grammar. (I don't mind learning that elsewhere.) I also found that I could use the 2nd half of the book (the English translations for German-speakers) to get a good handle on the pronounciation keys. Seeing how they instruct German-speakers to pronounce words I AM familiar with has been really helpful to me in studying the German half.

Its Just Fantastic.
Loads of Knowledge and observation are pumped in to this wonderful book. Its a blessing to have a copy of this book for the woodduck admirors.

Welcome to the Wood Duck world!
Wood ducks were almost hunted to extinction during the turn of the 20th century - but with dedicated biologists and hunters, the duck survived. This book goes into the ecology and natural history of this magnificent bird. Too bad the pictures are in black and white - but the well written text makes up for that - based on real research and field data from all over the wood duck range. A wildlife manager's library is not complete without this book.

Three very enjoyable stories
I picked this up recently on a whim and was delighted with it. It is a quick but very satisfying read. Each story has a female lead and an element of romance, but the stories are driven more by character than love. It reminded me of Colleen McCollouh's Ladies of Missalonghi.

A Pleasant Surprize
Most of the books by O'Rourke in my library are old westerns. I was drawn into the book and read it in one day. Wonderful narration and characters, I felt like I was in the Depression era Midwest.

Very good diplomatic history of a key neutral country in WW2
Book examines Turkey's relations with the major powers during WWII. It includes historical background on the 20s and 30s. Shows how Turkey swayed from Axis to Allies depending on events and avoided Nazi invasion. Some of the more interesting parts of book are not on Turkey but about events in Syria and Iraq and rest of mideast. Extensive Japanese intrigues in Baghdad, for example, sometimes at crosspurposes with German designs. Japan considered Iraq in their sphere

WWII Diplomacy Standards.
It deals with diplomacy throughout the Second World War when Turkey was a non-belligerent but not an ineffective bystander. Though she bound to Great Britain and France in mutual assisatance treaty since October 1939 broke her pledge to them and to all allied forces and declared war against Germany and Italy on February 1945 just before Yalta Conference when the fighting was all but over to be qualified in her inclusion of United Nations Organization. Thirty years later the Turks invaded Cyprus and revealed that, after all they had been dissastisfied with what diplomacy had gained for them. The book is very instructive for policy makers and leaders of the world and should have a reading copy of this outstanding book to better understand that diplomacy in nowadays should observe standards of honesty and integrity.

An Intresting book but doesn't focus on anything.
If you want to see sharks look at eyewitness SHARK. If you want to see Whales look at Eyewitness WHALE. This book has both whales and sharks, but doesn't focus on them. This book is good because it has a little bit of everything from the Ocean, but if really love sharks or whales, for example, then you would proubuly soak up a whole lot more imformation then this book. But that doensn't mean this book is bad. Like I said, this book has a little bit of everything from the ocean. You should buy this book!

Excellent Educationl Text
I'm a teacher and I find the Eyewitness books highly educational. I like the way the concepts are presented in a form without backgrounds. This gives clear facts to the reader without over taxing the attention span. The books are highly informative, presenting difficult concepts in comprehendable chunks that stimulate interest. I have almost the whole collection for my own children and they LOVE them!

Fair, Clear, and Not Terrible at All
Shirley Nelson's _Fair, Clear, and Terrible: The Story of Shiloh_ is one of those rare history books that's plotted and executed more like a mystery novel than a documentary. Nelson, whose parents met at Shiloh, took an interest in the site at a young age, and thus grew up always in its shadow. Through the years she gathered as much information as she could, and reports on it all here. However, this isn't just a regurgitation of the facts. Nelson's family ties to the place give her, it would seem, a reason to write about it with more heart than most historians, coupled with a sardonic, not-quite-suppressed sarcasm that leaves the reader laughing on occasion. And when was the last time you laughed at a HISTORY book?

A wonderful piece of work. Highly recommended.

A great look at a piece of Americana
Shirley Nelson did a great deal of research for this wonderful book! She not only took her own family history, but dug into other sources to put together a complete and fair minded look into a fascinating piece of Americana. The pure faith that took believers to Shiloh comes through as well has the hardships and abuse they endured as they tried to please their leader, Frank Sanford. She did a great service to many who were still in the movement of their forefathers at the time the book was published. Many of the facts of the history of The Kingdom movement were hidden or glossed over so that present members did not understand what the true story was. This book started a lot of questioning of the leaders of the church and helped in bringing to light lies and half truths. I would highly recommend this book, not only to those interested in history, but also to those who are or have been in a cult. So many common threads run through cults. So many innocent people trying to live their faith while the doctrines they are taught to love more than their own families carries consequences down through many generations. Highly reommended reading! For more information on the history of Shiloh and The Kingdom movement see the website fwselijah.com.

Falconry Manual

Excellent Overview
I found this book to be an excellent overview of Falcony. It has a good section describing the different types of raptors suitable for the sport, and some interesting descriptions and drawings relating to training and equipment. However, I would not attempt to use this book as a "how-to" manual. It doesn't have nearly enough detail on any subject. In places it can be a little difficult to follow. I am pleased with my copy and will be happy to add it to my library.

Every Falconier Must Have It!
this is the book for every falconier to own it explains every little thing you need to know through pictures and words.

Field Guide to Birds of Australia: The Graham Pizzey & Frank Knight Field Guide

Comprehensive and easy to use
This in-depth field guide is useful for both beginners and experienced bird-watchers. Wonderfully illustrated. Illustrations make for easy identification, and maps show distributions well. Divided into groups of related birds. Some photographs may have been a good idea, however.

Superb color plates & detailed distributional information
This is Pizzey's second field guide to Australian birds, and it is quite unlike the first. Pizzey I was an excellent reference, but the plates (by Doyle) were mediocre and of limited value for field identification. Pizzey II features superb color plates by Frank Knight, with a reduced facing-plate text by Pizzey that surpasses other current field guides in the amount of distributional information furnished. Unfortunately, the ungraduated distributional maps are clearly inferior to the maps in Michael Morcombe's Field Guide to Australian Birds (Steve Parish Publishing 2000) and the Simpson & Day Field Guide to the Birds of Australia.

Though slightly smaller than Morcombe (6.5" x 9.5"), Pizzey II is a large format book (6" x 9") that is easy to read, but a bit heavy for packing in the field. Nevertheless, foreign birders visiting Australia would be well advised to take both Pizzey II -- for the illustrations -- and Morcombe -- for the huge quantity of useful information and detailed field notes on the (amateurish) plates. For routine use in the field, the guide of choice remains the light and compact (4.5" x 8") Slater Field Guide to Australian Birds (Weldon 1989). The other Australian field guide, Simpson & Day, is a worthy competitor with color plates of comparable quality to those in Pizzey II, though perhaps not as conveniently arranged.

In conclusion, all four current Australian bird guides are five-star books, though each has its strengths and weaknesses. Pizzey II is artistically the most pleasing and would be the guide of greatest interest to book collectors interested in fine bird art.

A Field Guide to the Mammals of Australia

THE field guide
Peter Menkhorst's book is widely regarded as THE field guide to the mammals of Australia. Compact and easy to use, with fantastic illustrations by Frank Knight, its a must for anyone interested in identifying Australia's diverse mammalian fauna.

Mammals from the Down Under
I've been doing alot of research on illustrating various Australian Mammals and found that this book is the most compacted of all reference materials. You get the whole animal to view. So many times when cross researching you find yourself struggling to figure out what the animals feet really looks like, this book I find is really helpful.
