I don't recomend it
Badly written, this is the only book in the series which I found lacking in structural effectiveness and valuable content. Get a different book. Use the outline proceedure from the other in the series to develop your workshops.

coaching
i would rate this one of the best books i have read on coaching. it is both inspiring and practical. i have also listened to frank speaking on the subject at a recent conference. it was electric.

The Diary of Anne Frank (Teachers Guide)
This is an 8-page teachers guide which gives ideas for activities associated with using the actual book. As such, it would be useful. But if you're looking for the actual diary, keep looking.

The book was good.
I liked how Anne Frank went into hiding and learned to coperate ith people she didn't like. I tell about how horrible the Nazis were and it was very emotional. Overall the book was good, but it wasn't the best. I would read it again, If I had the chance.

Junk dictionary
The only redeeming feature of this book is the cheap pulp paper it is printed on, at least that would be useful in the outhouse. The information is shallow and limited but shored up with, for instance, the multiplication tables of 13 thru 19. Then, too, there are all the capitols of the world. Definitely not worth owning or even giving away.

A Great Dictionary!
The Oxford American Desk Dictionary is the perfect dictionary for the home or office. With over 100,000 entries, this will give a good, compact definition to anybody in need of the meaning of a word. It also has very useful appendixes like the meausurement tables, multiplication tables, capitols, Presidents of the U.S. and science and mathematical facts. So, the Oxford American Desk Dictionary is perfect for your home or office. Buy this great reference. Enjoy!

Not up to date edition
I recently purchased this book followed its instructions, and tried to file the correct paperwork with the courts when I was informed that the format is no longer acceptable as of 1/1/99. This book should not be sold anymore, being that it is not current. I then contacted Nolo Press, and they informed me that the new edition would not be out until June. THIS BOOK SHOULD NOT BE ON THE MARKET IF IT IS NOT CURRENT!

An easy and at times fun way to save thousands on adopting
This book is wonderful for anyone who wants to adopt their spouse's child and has the consent of the other bio-parent (or other stipulation such as the death of the bio-parent, etc.). It not only provides needed forms, but also has word-by-word examples of the documents you will need to type yourself (for me, that was actually fun!) Additionally, if you live in Los Angeles as I did during the process, it gives you special instructions for filing in L.A. county - very helpful! I had to pay only a $700 assessment fee and 2 or 3 small filing fees and the whole process, from filing the initial petition to the final hearing (which is especially enjoyable) was completed in under 4 months! And the experience brought me even closer to our 5 year old little girl as well as my wife! A lawyer quoted me legal fees of "$2,500 to $3,000, not including filing and assessment fees" before I found this book. You will not only save money, but come away with an amazing sense of accomplishment and a renewed appreciation for your family. I highly recommend this book!

The Encyclopedia of Stock Car Racing

Not an encyclopedia, more a book of biographical snippets
I prefer the Stock Car Racing Encyclopedia to this book. This one simple goes through, alphabetically, most things associated with stock car racing. Very short bios and stories are included, but precious few statistics. None, really. So go with the other title and leave this one on the shelf.

Very informative
I was doing research on "Champion Raceway" in Fayetteville, N.C. in the early "50s", and using this book I found that the (Then) Grand National Series raced some races there. It was quite exciting to uncover some of our racing heritage using this book

For beginners only!
Very short on the fundamentals of stance, movement and punches. Really limited on information for the reader, but a starting point before other books. My overall option is not to bother and go with Boxer's Start-Up : A Beginner's Guide to Boxing (Start-Up Sports, No 9).

Boxing at its best
The book was pretty decent, it was able to discuss some of the key points of upper jabs. What I liked most about the book was that it gave good analogies. Over all I would say it is worth your buy.

Ford Flathead Builders Handbook
I believe that the Title of this book should be "Ford Flathead Builders Handbook 1932-1953" not 1932-1958. Jay Smith

Ford Flathead V-8 Builder's Handbook 1932-1953
Book is fully illustrated, shows stock & high performance rebuilds; finding the perfect block, selecting the correct components; manifolds, heads, camshafts, crankshafts, pistons, ignitions, exhaust, boring, stroking, porting & relieving & cooling. Very well put together book.

Come up for AIR
Derek Jewell's style of writing may be appealing to some, but to me he leaves much to be desired.
Pros:
-Almost no detail was overlooked
-1/4 of the book is an index
-useful for book reports
-well arranged
Cons:
-Written in a breathy style where there is no good place to stop
-hard to concentrate on, hard to keep reading
-facts were boring
-could have used more opinions or quotes
-hard to pick out information for projects
-small print

AMERICA'S SINGER OF THE CENTURY
FRANK SINATRA was one of the greatest entertainer of the previous century. While he made many movies, it's the singer that will be remembered best. The skinny guy who caused riots at the PARAMOUNT theater had a legendary career spanning more than fifty years. The story of his ascension is well documented;it's interesting to hear of the way his three arrangers each worked with him in a different way in his great CAPITOL days ,who with the new compact editions will remain big sellers for many years to come. While DEREK JEWELL talks about the controversy always associated with FRANK, he manages to keep in perspective the important facts and let aside the gossip which can get unpleasant ,since we all know FRANK was not an angel. It might not be the best book about him (there are so many available now),but it does the job accurately.Anyway, the legacy of THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD are the records. We are now fortunate us music lovers to choose in the collection what we like best about him ,and there are many treasures.

ideology of capitalism
The only thing this book is really good for is as a source of references and websites related to the topic. otherwise it is highly annoying as it's main purpose is to present to the reader the virtues of capitalism and the irreversible death of socialism. ellis manages to weave into his book his contempt for feminism and other movements in side sentences, despite the fact that these issues are far removed from the topic he is supposedly discussing. next time ellis writes a book i would wish that he would make his intentions more explicit, so people don't have to waste time sifting through ideological texts when they are in search of academic analysis.

State use and abuse of information.
Professor Ellis' "From Glasnost to the Internet" is a brillant work of political and philosophical analysis of how and why information has been used and abused by states and their bureaucracies in recent history. He traces the advent and the impact of the internet on states controled by ideologial systems, like the former Soviet Union, as well as the responses by western bureaucracies to the manifold changes being wrought by new information technologies. Professor Ellis' work is a masterful exegesis of human nature in all its' political guises and an intellectual defense of the most elemental of human freedoms: free and open communication. Worth the read.

Great Christmas Movies

A disappointing rush job
In the acknowledgments, the author admits that this book was rushed to print, apparently to be timed with an AMC special, and the rushing shows, both in the production--several typos, a rather poor selection of photos (too many photos from the MGM "Christmas Carol" and none at all from the silent versions or the Seymour Hicks version, all of which get several pages of text attention)-- and in the odd imbalance of film coverage. Imagine a book on Christmas movies that gives 11 pages over to "National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, but only 4 1/2 pages to "It's a Wonderful Life"!! Because the author interviewed people like June Lockhart, Margaret O'Brien, and Chevy Chase, he apparently felt the need to include almost every word they said, even though most of the interviews have little light to shed on the movies under discussion. This is especially wasteful when 15 pages are devoted to an "oral history" of "A Christmas Story"; some judicious editing would have helped greatly. The space would have been much more wisely used for some deeper analysis of the Christmas movies. As it is, the author settles mostly for plot summary and the odd production detail and, despite mentioning the interesting fact that Fred Astaire bowed out of "White Christmas" because he hated the script, the author doesn't even get around to summarizing the plot at all, not even noting that it's basically a remake of "Holiday Inn." The chapters on silent films and the various "Christmas Carol" films are interesting, and he justly notes some overlooked gems like "Remember the Night" and "Come to the Stable." Still, my advice is to skip the book and wait for the TV special.

THE compilation of Christmas Movies -- more than just a list
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Thanks Frank Thompson, for a starting place for a thorough listing of Christmas Movies.

This book is a REFERENCE book in that you can breeze through it rather quickly.

It's critiques and reviews are the reason you picked it up, but background stories and personal rememberances of the actors are the true backbone of the book.

Lots of picutres, well designed, all the classics (except SCROOGED, THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS and CHARLIE BROWN'S CHRISTMAS) are listed and given coverage including Jesus films, the Monty Python LIFE OF BRIAN and the Christmas Horror classics.

A VALUABLE ASSET FOR CHRISTMAS CELEBRATORS!
