Frank Frick's "Journey Through the Hebrew Scriptures" is one of the best textbook-guides to the Hebrew Bible/Old Testament I have seen yet. It is well written, informative and up-to-date on (almost) the latest theories. Frick's chapters on the geography and the archaeology of the Holy Land, subjects in which the author is well versed himself, are especially useful to the average non-Israeli student.
Unfortunately, the book's high hardcover price and the lack of a soft cover edition make it impractical to use as a college textbook. I do hope that the effort is made to produce an updated soft cover edition soon!

I have always had a hard time finding books for boys between the ages of 8 - 12 years of age. Journey to Terezor is a winner! This creative Science Fiction book is hard to put down. Frank Asch really knows how to reach children of many different age groups. His sense of adventure is always exciting. I sure wish he would write more for the preteen group. Pearl's Promise is another must read for children.

Mr. Gallagher has given a concise and well researched lecture on the topic of Early's place in the inception and perpetuation of the idolization of Gen. R. E. Lee that began as early as a matter of weeks before Appomattox CH. Students of the "Lost Cause" will find this a good starting point because the author has provided an exceptional bibliography of source material. I am looking forward to the release of Mr. Gallagher's biography of "Lee's Bad Old Man," as I am sure that it will be the best yet to date.

Many works about Jubal Early's 1864 Valley Campaign have been produced, but none come close to this one. Frank Vandiver's JUBAL'S RAID stands out as, by far, the most lively and insightful of all the 1864 Valley histories, keeping the reader riveted throughout. This is a superb book that should be on every Civil War library shelf.

Sikora's biography of Federal Judge Frank Johnson, who's court rulings helped desegregate Alabama, is by far the best told story of the judge. Sikora is an impeccable researcher and a poignant storyteller. Through extensive interviews with Johnson, Sikora was able to include lengthy quotes by the Judge, which make up at least 1/4 of the book. Sikora has captured Frank Johnson as both a judge and a man. This is a must-read for anyone interested in civil rights history.

Iris, in trying to purchase her first bra-an item she needs desperately-starts a business called "Just ask Iris." Unfortunately the elevator in her building is out of order so she uses the fire escape instead. She not only meets the inhabitants of her new Manhattan apartment building, but also, she manages to pull you into the story. A very fast paced read. I'm a middle school teacher and find this a fun resource to discuss landlord laws and living conditions in the city.

I thought this book was very well written. The poems have a good mixture of folklore, cowboy poetry, song lyrics, and Immigrant Trail and yarns. While reading these poems you feel like you are there. They reveal a little part of everyboby's life experiences. On quiet days I enjoy curling up by the fireplace and reading these enjoyable poems. Thanks for the opportunity for me to expose the life and energy that this book gives one and I recommend that all who love poetry in rhyme read "Just Like Being There".

The Karate Clue is a really great book. It's exactly how I pictured the Hardy's as kids, especially Joe. I highly recommend this book!

I do a lot of cooking, and this is my very favorite cookbook. Ken Frank is an excellent cook, and his restaurant, La Toque (which is now in Rutherford, CA) is my favorite in this country! His food is exquisite, the presentation splendid, and best of all, anyone really interested in good cooking can replicate the recipes in this book. It is a book for anyone truly interested in creating wonderful dishes using first rate ingredients!
