A Few Nice Things, Mostly Not
There are a few nice pieces in this book but not enough to warrant a whole book. There is one picture I spotted as being identical to a picture on another page. Many of the items one could see by going to a Copper and Brass store that sells new items. I now have the book, "Metalwork in Early America : Copper and It's Alloys from the Winterthur Collection,". If you want in-depth information on antique copper and brass, I'm afraid you're going to have to go the money. This is what I was looking for when I bought this other book. Save your money.

Excellent Referral Source
This paperback with glossy cover is a must for collectors inthe metalware field. It's strongest points are in the excellent and numerous photos presented (all of which are in color). ... Most people would find the prices paid for identical pieces to be much lower, but it is still a worthy effort.

The author also devotes the last chapter to discussing forgeries, fakes, and reproductions which is also a must for a novice or anyone who hasn't had years of hands on collecting in the field.

If you had only one guide for the field, although I would never recommend only using one reference source, this could be it.

The only weakness with the book is that the text and background surrounding the various pieces is seriously lacking. But taking into consideration the price and the superb pictures, it is money well spent.

At the same time I would also recommend "Collecting Antique Metalware" copyright 1974 by Evan Perry. It has a mixture of both color and b/w photos in a hardback, but it much superior in explanatory text. I would whole heartedly give each book 5 stars.

Tedious for those not reading the Bible daily
Your view of this book is likely to depend on your religious outlook on life. The book is full of Bible-Quotes. It uses biblical personalities and settings as examples for burnout and the things that bring burnout about. Of those examples that do not figure biblical personalities, at least half have some strong connection to the church.

Personally, I feel that a book that deals with a clinical psychological issue, such as burnout, should rely on academic research and reasoning. That is missing here. Time and again the bible is taken as the source of all truth and the author's interpretation as our guiding line for doing things in life. Especially the latter makes it very difficult reading for people with academic training who are used to take a critical view of unsubstantiated statements.

For Christians facing burnout, this is must reading.
This book is practical, readable, and worthwhile. Even if you're so burned out you can hardly face another book, this one is worth the time! Lots of case histories and real life examples, so you know the authors have dealt with real people. Very solid biblical foundation. Non-technical explanations make it easy reading for anyone. Solid, practical suggestions for avoiding or escaping burnout. This is two books put together in one volume. Reading this book helped me identify the strengths and weaknesses, as well as the potential hazards of my own personality type. Best book on the subject I've seen.

Okay Book, Totally Misleading Title
I was really disappointed upon receiving this book, because it just does not deliver what the title promises, e.g. "definitive programs for runners of all ages and levels". And that promise is the only reason I bought it: like so many intermediate runners, I don't have a personal trainer and have lots of questions about my training routine. In the beginning, you just run; but after a year or so, you start wondering: am I training enough, what's the best combination of workouts (slow/fast; long/short etc.)in a given week, what types of workouts that make sense are there... So you can imagine how happy I was when I discovered a book with this title. But there is NOTHING in here to answer that type of question. It's a well-written how-to book, mainly for beginners with lots of injury tips and motivational stuff - but hey, that's in EVERY running book. So I guess it's okay - if you don't have the wrong expectations.

Excellent book. Especially the pages for masters runners.
Since, like the author, I am a runner over the age of 50, I felt this book really provided valuable information on training. I especially liked the discussion on weight training. Bill encourages a moderate approach to lifting, which I agree is better than the more intensive weight training that seems to be the norm these days. I highly recommend this book to runners of all levels.

Not what I expected

Don't get me wrong, I am a great fan of William F. Buckley, and have read most of his published books. In addition, I have read his columns and subscribed to his magazine, National Review.

Nevertheless, this is not what I expected.

This book is a compilation of several characters, drawn from his Blackford Oakes series of stories. The characterizations are good, of course, and the writing is up to Buckley's standard, which is high. But, there is nothing original in the book. It is simply a collection of characters.

The book was scanned from originally published material. Some of the scanning was faulty, resulting in mistakes like 'War College' being translated into 'Wan College'. Every 'r' is not changed to an 'n'; just often enough to irritate the reader.

For Buckley, who is a perfectionist, it must be cause for great annoyance.

William Buckley is a good, if not a great writer, who has spent his lifetime worshipping the English language. Buy the original stories, wherein you will get all of these characterizations, and the rest of the story to boot. This book is only an appetizer.

Joseph Pierre,
Author of THE ROAD TO DAMASCUS: Our Journey Through Eternity

Trenchant Conservative Insight
I'd been looking for this book for years and was most happy to find it reissued last year. It's a very fine distillation of Buckley's Cold War archetypes, entertaining, thoughtful and in its way inspring.

A Not So Complete History
This book does cover the history from the start, but it lacks the details to call itself "The Complete Story". I don't know if it's been updated (I believe mine is a first printing) but it only covers to the mid 90's

Falls short of being a good coffee table book due to size (small) and limited amount of photos. And, it falls short of being a good reference book due to limited technical information, organization, and completeness.

This book is acceptable overall, but I'd like to find a large format book with color photos of every model, and thorough technical and historical information.

A general history
A very nice book about the general history of BMW. Most types are described, without being to technical. There is a tabel with specifications for every model since 1923

Plodding police and steroetypical characters run amok.
This is my first Jo Bannister and I am very disappointed. These characters are steroetypically drawn and strain credulity. The plot borders on witless, and the setting (with which I am familiar) lacks resonance. My disappointment is tempered by the fact that I borrowed this from the library, saving my money to purchase new titles from credible successors to P.D. James et al.

Well done police procedural

In the rural back roads outside Castlemere, Detective Sergeant Cal Donovan rides his motorcycle before stopping for gas. However, Cal steps into the middle of an armed robbery at the gas station. The culprit slams a gun into Cal's face before driving away from the scene of the crime. Cal pursues only to watch the culprit crash into another vehicle. The crash shakes up the other car's occupant, but she turns out all right. Cal rescues the robbery suspect from the burning wreck.

The armed robber turns out to be Mikey Dickens, the youngest son of the local crime family. The sure shot case unravels because of Mikey's clever solicitor and the sudden loss of substantial evidence. When Mikey turns up nearly dead, all the physical evidence points towards an avenging Cal as the suspect. This leaves it up to other members of the police force to prove his innocence before Cal's reputation and that of the department is destroyed forever.

Many fans of police procedurals hold Jo Bannister in high esteem for her charming Castlemere series. Books like A TASTE FOR BURNING and CHARISMA are some of the sub-genre's top novels. Her current Castlemere tale, BROKEN LINES, may be her best novel to date. The author cleverly employs an elaborate who-done-it filled with suspense. She then fills that story line with an in-depth look at the various connections between the characters, leaving readers to ponder the meaning of relationships. Ms. Bannister provides the audience with a unique story that will cause a mass desire for the next book in this series to appear quickly.

Disappointing
Collector Books did not live up to its generally fine quality of productions in this guide to English ceramics. The text is awkwardly written, confusing or contradictory in places, and colorless, lacking enthusiasm. Worse, a very large number of the illustrations are seriously shadowed, a most annoying flaw in an identification guide. On the plus side, the range and selection of objects discussed is ample, and the illustrations of marks are helpful.

The color photos prove an invaluable aid
Mary Frank Gaston's English China provides identification and values for enamel, oriental themes, and other decorative themed china works. The color photos prove an invaluable aid in the identification process.

Off the subject.
It gives some partially effective forms of meditation and healing, but goes to deep on just one stone and is way to complicated and confusing for the beginner it is made out to be for. It gives long and hard ways to complete simple tasks.

Very Surprising
I very rarely review a book. However, in this case, I felt I should offer a forewarning to those who may consider purchasing this book. If you are like me, after receiving it, you will wonder why it cost as much as it does! There is nothing in this book that can not be obtained online and elsewhere in very little time. The bulk of the book is a listing of the companies included in various indexes (e.g., S&P 100) and companies sorted by industry sector. There's nothing wrong with the book; I just don't understand how the content supports the price. Personally, I would be embarrassed to sell this book at this price.

An excellent reference resource!
Mr. Carroll has put together an extremely helpful stock trading reference resource geared toward the day trader, yet useful to even casual investors. The guide is compact, easy to carry around and organized by industry which allows the user to obtain information quickly and easily. If you are a frequent trader or simply "in the market", this is an invaluable resource.

The Devil's Captain

Not what I expected
My perception buying this book was of a historical fiction. This is just fiction, only the names are real. If you like Errol Flynn movies this'll make you happy, but is otherwise rather boring and uniformative.

High Seas Adventure
This is one of my favorite pirate books. I have read many and collect pirate and seafaring tales. For a recently written pirate story this is a fun, fast, and an exciting read. Not many pirate books are written any more, which is a shame.
It starts on the coast of Africa with slaves and voodoo and rapidly moves across the Atlantic to the Caribbean. The main character, Bart Roberts, only becomes a pirate when captured and he sets certain morals for himself and crew (similar to the Flynn movies).
If you like action, sailing, pirates, ship to ship combat, and yes a little romance. Then this is one of the best more recent pirate stories.
A funny foot note: I orignally purchased this book by an author named Philp Shea with the same title. I wonder if Frank Sherry and Shea are the same person. Because these are the exact same books.
Another Recommendation: On Stranger Tides, by Tim Powers. Another great pirate adventure with voodoo and ghosts.
