I like it
This book does a good job of discussing why groundwater extraction (pump and treat or whatever else you want to call it) is not useful for cleanup of petroleum contaminated sites, rendering it best suited for hydraulic control of plumes.

The author also has a pretty good discussion regarding lifecycle design considerations and the various steps to go through/questions to ask with regard to effluent treatment and equipment sizing.

Some of the technology descriptions appears to be taken from design of remediation systems by suthersan, but both books were published by the same company so i guess that shouldn't really be a surprise. Both books offer different perspectives, so I find them both to be pretty useful, however, I like this one a little more because the author seems to be more of a practical guy whereas suthersan is more theoretical.

I would recommend this book to anyone interested in expanding their knowledge of the design and correct application of remediation technologies.

Incompressible Flow and the Finite Element Method, Volume 1, Advection-Diffusion and Isothermal Laminar Flow
Published in Paperback by John Wiley & Sons (11 May, 1998)
Authors: Bingham, Gresho, Horan, Frank Mucklich, and Joachim Ohser
Amazon base price: $79.95

Strange but useful
This book comprises a very thorough introduction to the Finite Element Method for diffusion-advection problems and the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The authors' style is strange and often very bizarre but the subject is presented with full details. Many different weak forms of the Navier-Stokes equations are presented and compared. From a practical point of view one will find a great deal of recipes on what elements to use, different strategies on mesh generation, time integration, etc. One will also find a useful discussion on the advantages/disadvantages of FEM compared to some well established finite diffrences and finite volume methods for incompressible flows.

A Wonderful Book for Teachers!
This story is about a young boy named Ned. When Ned was oneyear old, his parents discovered that he had a special talent. Everytime Ned said a word that named a thing, the "thing" appeared over his head. When he said the word "gorilla", a gorilla would appear. This became a problem when Ned started to school. Classmates would yell, "WE CAN SEE WHAT YOU SAY!" The teacher became upset because very little work was being done in the classroom. In hopes of finding a solution to this problem, Ned was sent to the school nurse, band teacher, French teacher, and to the principal . As a last resort, the principal gave Ned a choice. He could stand in the hall or say nothing at all. It seemed as though no one understood Ned, until the art teacher came on her usual day. She knew why those things had shown over Ned's head. Do you?

A Note to Teachers: This book can be used to incorporate community within your classroom. This book reminds us that every child is different and has special talents. In order to meet the needs of every child, we must remember to include the arts in our teaching.

Strolling through France
Just an extraordinary and concise grouping of apparently easy hikes of short duration, the majority of which can be handled by anyone. Perhaps they make more sense if you have visited France before. The choice of areas is extensive and probably putting half a dozen together would make for a most interesting vacation. Extemely easy to read. Just hope the trails are still there - wasn't there some sort of EU protest recently about abandoning such trails? Better get going, soon!

great book for casual walker
I really enjoyed reading this book, full of wonderful descriptions of easy, scenic walks. It gives lots of arguments for why you should try walking in Britain and lots of information for how to prepare. I decided I wanted to do mostly more strenuous hikes than what's covered here, but this book was my inspiration to think about seeing Britain on foot.

great for background, good for planning
The background information on Indian culture and history is great. The idea of organizing the book into a collection of regional tours is great. The book is a bit weak on how to get from stop to stop on each tour. It would also be nice to have some photos. But the writing is good and the author is an expert on the country and culture.

if you need help for the exam
I ordered this book because i needed help understanding the calculations for the IHIT exam. since i did not know a lot of the calculations, and didnt want to waste the time trying to find all the information, i bought this book. the book spells out what each letter and number stands for. its very easy to read and the layout of the book is not confusing. The book also gives some background information. The book is bound with a plastic spiral and a some-what plastic cover. I found this a little awkward. Over all the information is great and it must have taken some time to put it together, but i think the price is a little high. But i guess you pay that for the convenience.

Inside Argentina from Peron to Menem: 1950-2000 From an American Point of View
Published in Hardcover by Edwin House Pub Inc (June, 2001)
Authors: Lawrence W. Levine, Kathleen Quinn, Laurence W. Levine, and Frank Ortiz
Amazon base price: $25.00

Good background
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book full of enlightening and memorable anecdotes. The book makes the sources of Argentina's instability and anti-Americanism very clear. However, it would be more accurately entitled "Inside My Career in Argentina." Don't expect to learn much of the inner workings of Argentina's government. This is really the memoir of an international corporate lawyer who had business dealings with Argentina. Foreign policy flare ups affected the deals he worked on, and he tells Argentina's history through that lens. As important as Peron was to Argentina's history, Levine only met the man once and covers that in less than a page. Nor will you get much insight into Menem. It's an enjoyable read as Levine had a rare opportunity as a Harvard Law grad representing Argentinian companies at that time. (No doubt today Argentina's elite sends its own kids to Harvard to later represent them in the U.S.) It's a career experience worth recounting, but it isn't truly an insider's view of Argentina.

If you're planning a trip to northwest Montana, this is the book to buy! This became my bible planning my family's vacation, and included all the information I needed including accommodations, activities for kids, area events and recreation.
