Captivating !
Mr.Carroll's concise research and style of writing was amazing. He not only leads you to the confederate treasure, he actually takes you on a trip back in time. I read this book 2 years ago, and even today I could detail the last hours of this historical treasure's movements. I would like to thank Mr. Carroll for his work. What a touching moment in time this was!

Revealing
The Author's book really gave me insight into some of the history of my hometown. I had often heard rumors of a hidden treasure here, but after reading "Confederate Treasure in Danville" it made me a believer.

All-night page turner
Living in a country where historical artifacts and centuries-old antiquities are treasured, I am not often interested in reading about US history. All this changed when I read Confederate Treasure in Danville by J. Frank Carroll. Although I'll never dig for the treasure, the value was in the intrigue that kept me turning the pages.

stop wasting money on sleazy women and buy this book!
essential reading for all us gehry-freaks...well, i guess it is. i haven't been able to concentrate on the text just yet. the photographs keep distracting me from my attempts at a disciplined study of the works. but who cares, right? if you are devoted to frank gehry you MUST have this book on your shelf. open the covers of this book and become familiar with a genius. in a world dominated by boyzone, mcdonald's, and teletubbies it is a relief to know that the mechanics of the human mind can achieve so much more. frank gehry is a true inspiration for all of mankind. break out of the box and find out what frank is trying to say.

amazing new perspective
i did not have a good impression of gehry until i got this book. i got it because i had to know what this guy is thinking when he comes up with what i thought was "ugly" stuff (i now feel ashamed to admit that). now i see the beauty of his work.
my eyes have been opened. i now have a greater respect for what he is doing.
the photography is amazing...the book provides sketches and insight into what gehry is trying to do.
must have for architectural students/interns

The Master Gehry
This book represents all what Frank Gehry is. With beautiful photos and good texts, you can know all work of this that's one of the best architets of actuality. Frank Gehry's Complete Works must be bought and read, it's like a bible of desconstrutivism architetury. The price is wonderfull and the quality too. I love it.

Excellent resource....
No matter how hard I search, I've yet to find the "perfect" book on herb use and herb growing. This book isn't perfect, but it does have some real strengths.

Rodale's ILLUSTRATED ENCYCLOPEDIA OF HERBS is organized in a strange way--everything, and I mean everything--falls into alphabetical order. For example, "Gardening with Herbs falls between "Foxgloves" and "Garlic" and "Growing Herbs" falls between "Grindellia" and "Hawthorn."

The book is printed on semi-gloss paper so it will stand up to use and not crumble in a few years. Each entry contains line drawing illustrations and a few sections of the book are highlighted with color photos.

The plant profiles are succinct, covering topics such as 'history', 'cultivation' and 'uses.' Many entries contain material from other sources such as Maud Grieves' A MODERN HERBAL Vols. 1-2. Some information is repeated without attribution or verification. I always find "They say" and "It is thought" offputting, while I appreciate direct citations of which there are many in this book.

THE ENCYCLOPEDIA covers some topics not readily found in other books. The most useful of these is a compendium discussing the "Dangers of Herbs" (located between "Dandelion" and "Deadly Nightshade." The editors have compiled the FDA listing of "tricky" herbs (could kill or cure depending on use) from PREVENTION magazine, as well as similar ratings from James Duke's CRC HANDBOOK OF MEDICINAL HERBS, Jean Rose's HERBS AND THINGS, and Varro Tyler's THE HONEST HERBAL. You realize on reading this section that everything is relative.

The biggest problem with the misuse of herbal remedies is the misclassification of plants by the practicioner. To be an herbal healer one simply must understand botany. The second biggest problem is conflicting information about what a plant will or will not do based on singular accounts (which could be the result of a misclassification of plants or a misapplication of the plant extract). The third problem is idiosyncratic plant and human interaction. One man's poison can be another man's elixer. As with synthetic drugs, each individual has a unique chemical compostion and the herb in question may or may not be effective, or in some cases may provoke an allergy. Of course, there are some herbs that are downright deadly as every mystery reader knows.

This wouldn't be a Rodale book with out a section on "Pests" and "Pest Control" or the synergistic and conflicting effects of various plant combinations in the garden. This information and the sections on poisonous attributes make the book worth it's cost. All I can say about plant combinations can be summed up to this...plant catnip. You'll have to read the book to find out which kind.

Excellent for the beginner, and useful for the experienced
This book has *fabulous* illustrations of the plants it details - something usually lacking from herbal books by way of plant identification. The plant descriptions and suggestions for use, as well as the old lore associated with each one are all very useful, and well formatted for easy lookup.

The only thing it doesn't have is the same thing most herbal books lack: complete and comprehensive information on the dangers of certain herbs - although I understand that the reason is that since this isn't a licensed medical text, they're not allowed to present thier information as actual medical advice, and so some of the precautions fall under that umbrella. As with any book on herbs, the reader must remember that the information, especially the warnings, are not necessarily complete.

That said - this is a really useful book with lots of great information, that you'll be glad to add to your herbal library at home.

My Bible
Rodale's Illustrated Encyclopedia of Herbs is the best herb resource I have ever found, and that is saying a lot, since I own over twenty, and have checked many others out from my local library. It is thorough, interesting, more complete than any other text (no herb book can be complete - it would be thicker than a telephone book!), and always enjoyable to read. Reading it as a child was the initial inspiration for my love of herbology. Most entries start with stories about the plant, or a short talk about it's particular history. Some of those stories are better than most I see in print.
If I could, I would give this book a ten star rating. If you are starting out in this field, this is the place to start. This book is my bible

Successful Affiliate Marketing for Merchants

Extremely useful for anyone launching an affiliate program
This book certainly helped me organize my thinking while putting together an affiliate program. Although it seems aimed at larger organizations (the authors envision an entire department running the affiliate program), smaller merchants will find a lot of solid advice. The only negative comment I have is that the book shows signs of hasty writing and editing. But if you need the information, you'll be able to forgive that fault.

This is a definite MUST HAVE for any web site merchant!
I only wish I would have read this book before I put my affiliate program together. This book is so crammed full of valuable information, resources, tips, and help. I took 4 pages worth of notes. This book is excellently written both for the merchant who is thinking about putting an affiliate program together as well as for someone with an existing successful affiliate program. I doubt that there is a more complete and thorough book on successful affliate managment. I would give this book 10 stars if I could!

Merchants & Affiliates Need this Book!
This book is excellent! Merchants need to read this book to learn the options and steps to making their business thrive on the internet. Affiliates will learn from this book as well. Shawn and Frank know what it is like being an Affiliate as well as an Affiliate Manager. Learn why merchants need an affiliate program, how to get started, and how to get the word out. This book is a great resource, a keeper!

This Book Makes You Think!
Audrey Rose was a fabulous book about a girl named Ivy who actually had lived another life and was a little girl named Audrey Rose and when Audrey Rose died she was born again as Ivy, Audrey Rose's soul was reborn into Ivy's body. I liked everything about this book but the only thing that I found unrealistic was that Ivy was about 9 or 10 years old and was 5 feet 9 inces tall and had large fully developed breasts among other things but that's really the only negative thing I can think of about this book and it's a minor complaint and I recommend this book greatly! Oh by the way I don't find reincarnation terrifying, the Hindu religion of India believes in reincarnation and considers it a beautiful thing to be able to live again and they don't find it terrifying, oh I suppose if reincarnation is not part of your religious beliefs you might find it scary because people always fear things that are different or can't easily be explained, my religion doesn't believe in reincarnation but I don't dismiss the idea of it and find the idea of maybe being able to come back and live life all over again interesting, of course it would be cool if you had the choice of whether you would want that or not. Sorry, I guess I am just in a philosophical mood today!

Almost a reverie
This book is one full of pathos and yet with a lot of depth.the child in the book and her natural father are tied together with a tight string which even the fires and ashes could not burn.i would recommend this book to anyone who does not believe in the supernatural as a concept and yet has fears and doubts about its existence.those who believe in reincarnation and those who have doubts.its not a book hurting any religious sentiment and yet it is of the profoundest intensity.

Want to change your view on things?
"Audrey Rose" is not only a great book, of a family torn apart, by what they don't even beleive in, but it also presents a good representation of reincarnation.

When Hoover's own daughter died, he was heart broken, but then he heard from a respected psychic that his daughter was still alive. He made the decision to find her, but how would you feel and how much you would you believe, from a man who is certain you have his daughter, reincarnated in your own child?

And what happens when you start to believe it?

I like Frank Corso, warts and all...

I read a lot of books. I wish there were more writers like G. M. Ford, who take real people and put them into ambiguous situations and let them struggle with the consequences of their decisions and behavior.

Frank Corso is one of those flawed characters who finds himself in the middle of a huge jigsaw puzzle involving corrupt contractors, inspectors, jurors and more than enough bad guys to fill out the mix.

Corso's a Seattle-based writer with some mistakes in his past, a huge financial settlement in his bank account, and a reclusive lifestyle.

Corso is the only invited guest to the murder trial of Nicholas Balagula, a bad-to-the-bone mobster who is responsible for the deaths of 63 people when the hospital he built collapses. This is Balagula's third trial and the prosecution is looking pretty secure. Corso is taking notes and gathering material for his new book when his world is rocked by the savage attack on his former girlfriend, a photojournalist who believes there's a link between the seemingly insignificant death of a school district's maintenance man and the Balagula trial.

After the assault, Corso's thrown into a whirlwind of plot twists, bad guys, and paper trails. There's even some Cambodian culture thrown in for good measure (maybe the beginnings of a new book?).

I like Frank Corso and found myself drawn into the plot lines, even though the tidy Hollywood-like ending was a bit too predictable.

Enjoy!

Another compelling read featuring Frank Corso
The nefarious business practices of crime boss Nicholas Balagula: fraud, extortion, and falsified bids, caused the death of 63 people including 41 children when a minor seismic disturbance collapsed the wall of the Fairmont Hospital. Possible jury tampering, intimidation, and the fortuitous deaths of witnesses have kept Balagula from spending the rest of his notoriously immoral life in prison. But federal prosecutors may have a turned a witness, someone who can testify to Balagula's direct involvement in the disaster. Granted status as the only nonparticipant allowed at the trial, Frank Corso, reclusive author of popular true-crime novels is forced back into the public eye amid media speculation that he is consulting for the prosecution. Then Corso's insulated life is thrown into chaos when his ex-lover Meg Dougherty, while pursuing an investigation of her own, is involved in a car accident that leaves her battered and bloody body hanging to life by a thread. Pursuing justice for his one, best friend while following the course of the trial Corso is pulled into the muck of a black river of deceit, corruption, and murder.
Ford's latest bad guy isn't as reprehensible as Corso's previous foe, the Trashman, but perhaps he just seems less disgusting because we're exposed to reports of unethical business practices in the news so often. Hospitals and homes are lined up along the San Andreas Fault as we read. Balagula's method to find the members of an anonymous, sequestered jury would make a market researcher proud. And even the most competent of employees will have bad days: finding the guy you're to hit already dead, buried bodies floating to the river's surface, taking out the wrong people. I almost felt sorry for these two killers. The flow of the Black River of the title is disrupted by progress, but "it's a river's nature to remain a river." As Balagula proclaims his innocence the progress of his criminal empire continues to flow. But even a criminal empire runs into obstacles now and then.
G. M. Ford has once again provided a compelling journey into the world of crime and fascinating look into the complex personality of one of fiction's newest heroes.

Great new protagonist from GM Ford.
The protagonist in G.M. Ford's Seattle based 'Black River' is Frank Corso, a hard boiled, paradoxical true crime writer. He has a strong sense of right and wrong in the Sam Spade manner.

In 'Black River' the government is trying for the third time to nail known criminal and pedophile Nicholas Belagula for bribery. Witnesses and inspectors keep turning up dead.

After Corso connects seemingly unrelated events (murders) including one that strikes close to home---everything circumstantially points to Belagula.

Corso unearths a paper trail that verifies the connection. Turning an insider is all that's needed to convict Belagula.

G.M. Ford, an excellent storyteller, gives you a nonstop, rapidly moving plot with well-developed characters. Once I got all the players clearly identified, it was impossible to put the book down.

A couple of the bad guys are Elmore Leonardish, and the primary villains are absolutely loathsome.

The appearance of the US Attorney General was a bit much and the ending too neat and tidy---but the ride to the conclusion was thrilling. Do not miss this one.

The problem with any book claiming to be a "Handbook"...
The Handbook attempts to be all things to all people, and thus tries to cover many too many topics with uneven results. The Handbook provides good institutional knowledge about fixed income markets and the basics of pricing and portfolio management (including some international portfolio management issues). This is sufficient to learn basic fixed income intuition, which may be enough for people not heavily involved in fixed income markets (i.e. MBA students, consultants, CFA candidates, etc.). The greatest fault (to me) is the book does not address the biggest assumption of basic fixed income pricing theory (i.e. interest rates are assumed to be constant or at least know functions of time). This is obviously unrealistic. The Handbook does not help practitioners interested in advanced pricing theory and requires consultation with more advanced texts.

However, I must admit the Handbook does look impressive sitting on your desk. In a pinch, it also makes for a good, albeit expensive, paperweight or doorstop. :-)

The sine qua non
This book has been around for years and new editions are lapped up by fresh generations of bond geeks. You will find a copy on pretty much every fixed income desk in the industry (including mine). Why all the hoopla? Because there is simply no other book like it. Because it is simply the most comprehensive survey of the various fixed income markets in print. For a basic understanding of the structure and institutional aspects fixed income securities, Fabozzi is the inevitable first stop. All this being said, it is important to understand the book's weaknesses. There is relatively little depth in terms of analytics and if you want formulae you will have to look elsewhere. But for basic overviews, structural details and the orientation that is a precondition for deeper study, the Handbook is in a class by itelf.

Comprehensive, Detailed & Thorough
This book contains everything a beginner could care to know and everything a professional needs to know. This book is a study in fixed income securities from the basic to the complex and should be a source of information and reference for anyone studying or practicing.

The making of Wolverine!
The Weapon X TPB shows the story of one of Marvel Comics most popular characters, Wolverine. The plot details one of the most integral points in the characters life; when he was used as a human weapon by the orginization Weapon X and how he recieved the adamantium metal bonded to his skeleton. An excellent story and an interesting period of the characters life, its a great read for those not only interested in the character, but comic history as well.

ONE OF THE BEST
hey dont listen to those guys who said this story doesnt deliver I have been reading comics for about fifteen years now and The Weapon-X story was one of the most creative and best written story's I have ever read, It leaves you in awe when you finish reading it. And one reviewer said it doesent tell you about his orgin, whatever dude. It tells you how and why he got his andamentium claws, NUFF SAID!! Barry Winsdor Smith is one of the pioneer's of modern comic book art and I still see a lot of his influence, and a whole lot of rip offs from the Weapon-X story line to this day. Well all of them pale in comparison to the original this is a truly classic work of art and anyone who likes Wolverine or the X-men or comics in general should have this collection. I have about 400 comics more or less(but ive owned way more)and most of them are good but I cant keep them all in my room so I have separated about 40 comics in a little box in my room from the 400 I keep in my basement and Weapon-X is in my room.

An awesome Wolverine graphic novel that is a must for fans!!
As I've said before in my other Wolverine graphic novel reviews, I am a true, hardcore fan of Wolverine. So is my sister, and when she bought this graphic novel and I read it, I was utterly blown away! This tells the origin of Wolverine and how he was turned into Weapon-X, the ultimate killing machine for the Canadian government. There is plenty of action in this graphic novel when Wolverine breaks out and takes out his feral and berserker rage on his experimentators. There's only one thing that puzzled me in this story, and that was the ending. Nevertheless, this was a great read with awesome action, suspense, and great comic art as well. It is essential to any Wolverine fan to read this!!!

Great suspense
After reading the first book, I couldn't wait for the second one to be published. When it finally was, I was not disappointed. The suspense that King is weaving in this series is astounding. It makes you want more at the end. In this book, King adds a new personality to the mouse that Delacroix has taken for a pet. King involves you so deeply, that it seems that the life on the Green Mile is linked to this mouse. It's down right creepy

Part 2 in The Green Mile Serialization
Even though "The Mouse on the Mile" is an entertaining second addition to The Green Mile serialization, it backtracks a bit in time, before John Coffey came to the E Block. The mouse (Steamboat Willy, later known as Mr. Jingles) is spotlighted a little more, as well the electrocution of one of the inmates, known as The Chief. I didn't mind either topics, but I was more interested in John Coffey's story, since it had just started to unravel in the first book, "The Two Dead Girls", then was all but skipped in this one. Great cliffhanger at the end, though, which will make readers eager to read the next book and the next--"Coffey's Hands" (#3), "The Bad Death of Eduard Delacroix" (#4), "Night Journey" (#5), and "Coffey on the Mile" (#6).

Totally Electric, can't wait to start Coffey's Hands.
From a 13 y/o perspective. The Mouse on the Mile continues Stephen King's look into life of people on death row through the memories of prison guard Paul Edgecombe. This book introduces many new characters. There's a mouse that gets the name Steamboat Willie from one of the guards and Mr. Jingle's from one of the new prisoners. There's a really mean new prisoner William Wharton, who gives the bad guard Percy Whetmore, something to remember at the end of the book and makes me want to start reading the next book to find out what happens to Percy. A french man, Eduard Delacroix, and a gentle black man John Coffey. They are all waiting their turn for the electric chair, and finally the electric chair itself with the execution of the Cheif. This book is more exciting than the first. As always King leaves you hanging on the edge of your seat at the end of the book and you are racing to pick the next one up and get your nose in it. This book is not for those weak in the stomach. It is graphic in language and the description of many things that happen in a death row. I would recommend it to adults and others my age if they remember it's just a book and not to let it bother them. Off to start reading Coffey's Hands, Book #3 of the Green Mile Series.

"Love is a Choice" is one of the best choices I've ever made
In a state of depression and desparation I felt an overwhelming urge to drive to [a bookstore] in search of help. I didn't even know what I was looking for. I did know my search would defintely begin in the "Self-help" section. I picked up several books on relationships and read the backs of them. The third one I picked up was "Love is a Choice", and when I read the back I started to cry. It was like divine intervention because I had only heard the term "codependent - I didn't know exactly what it meant and certainly didn't know that it applied to me. Boy, did it ever. This book was such an eye opener for me and truly has changed my life. I know I have a long way to go in the healing process (maybe a lifetime), but now I have hope and the power of knowledge on my side. The greatest (and most unexpected) benefit of reading this book was that it helped me to get to know God - someone I didn't think knew me or loved me. I am so thankful that this book was written, and that there are people with the knowledge, experience, and expertise out there willing to work hard to make a happy and healthy life a reality for so many of us. Thank you!

Changed my life!
I can honestly say that this book changed my life. I first read a page of it during a boring sermon at church, at a time when my marriage was going downhill. It sucked me in so fast I couldn't put it down. It was a shocking experience to read my entire life story written by complete strangers . It has a very straightforward style, but I think it's also easy enough reading that a teenager could understand it. The mix of psychology and scripture was exactly what I needed, and I don't know if I could have accomplished effective healing without it. The book is effective alone or in a group setting. My church even used it in place of a Sabbath School class: While everyone else was in groups studying Daniel and Revelation, I was in a group studying codependancy from a biblical perspective. I would also recommend this book to pastors looking to meet the emotional needs of their congregation.

This book started the upswing!
After finally realizing that I was this thing called "codependent," I began to read all the well known titles so that I could be "codependent no more." They were helpful in that they oriented me to this new concept and defined it...gave me something to think about. Then one day five years ago I happened on "Love is a Choice." I read it voraciously! I put it inside other books as I sat through classes in nursing school. I underlined, I highlighted, I read passages over and over that set fire alarms off in my head! I came to Amazon to see if I could still buy it because I have physically worn mine out. This book was life changing, and gave me a foundation to make profound progress in my recovery. Now I go back and read my journal from years ago and can't believe I was ever that person.
