Outstanding!
Simply put...this is THE best book for introducing Anne Frank and the Holocaust to the youngest readers. I disagree with the Horn Book that the folk-style art doesn't fit. Instead, it makes Anne seem like a little kid to the youngest readers/listeners. Buy this book to teach about Anne Frank and the Holocaust..it's perfect!

brilliant for children
This is a wonderful book for young children to read to introduce them to the holocaust. i am 22years old, an di had to read it for a childrens literature class, and it had me spellbound! the pictures are a great attention grabber for children and help them follow along. this would be a wonderful teachers aid in a classroom! the illustrations are wonderful, colorful and cheery. yes, the cheery pictures do not fit with the plot, but it is perfect in a childrens story. keep up the good work Yona

This book was the best I ever read!!!!
This book is sooooo GOOD! The author really does a MARVELOUS job! The book is so FANTASIC that I couldn't put it down, even when my parents told me to go to bed(I read it under the covers)! I recomend this book to ANYONE interested in the Holocaust!

A must-have for architecture students
This is a great resource for learning how to produce good architectural drawings. It is oriented around hand drafting, but the concepts and ideas are important for good, readable CAD drawings as well. My first year studio professor made everyone buy this book. It was money well spent!!

A visual guide to Architectural Drafting.
Architectural Graphics covers a huge range of fields within Architectural Drafting, and Presentation. From perspective to plans, this book has it all. Excellent for beginners, it is a visual, easy to understand guide to Drafting.

essential for any architect or student
A fabulous survey of the conventions of architectural drawing in an easily referenced, concise format. Adequately covers the basics of orthographic, paraline, perspective, and rendering techniques. Good for the first time student just learning, or the experienced architect looking for a brush up.

Excellent ! An honest, insightful examination into love
I am a former student of Professor Andrews, both in his chemistry courses and his class on understanding human values. His outstanding personable qualities made learning from him a joy. This book reflects these wonderful attributes in a subject that should be dear to everyone. As one of his teaching assistants for chemistry, I remember discussing triumphs with him and my fellow students (his definition of a triumph was anything you consider to be a triumph). Nearly 20 years later, I still vividly recall this! Professor Andrews first wrote a text titled, "Willing to Love" for his course on problem solving. The book examines love and relationships, integrating it with his personal feelings. Likewise, this book shares such feelings and is a must-read by those wanting to better understand their own self-worth (and more importantly, realize they do have it).

Wow! Transforms your whole attitude toward life!
This book is amazing! It has 144 practices that completely transform how you think about your life, other people, loving, and spirituality. It is extremely clear and full of really unique insights. I think both deeply religious people and atheists will be comfortable reading it and will gain from it. Its probing insights will change how you approach all the relationships in your life. I especially liked his inquiry into whether it is more important to be loved or to be loving. I also found his practice of working to love people you don't think you like to be very eye opening!

A wonderful, straight forward coach for growing with life.
Very positive coaching within reality. Not too deep, not rightous, just open and honest. I have to constantly order this book as I give it to so many of my friends and I hope I don't get it back, that it's out there being read by many. I re-read this book every other year or so to keep on track with personal growth and to stay a positive influence in the world.

Shamefully underrated
The best cover artist of all time. No exaggeration. Some of the later work becomes, unfortunately, exceedingly literal--it's as if someone forced Powers to put Boris-Vallejo-like human figures into his abstract scenes in order to satisfy some PR/marketing goal. They don't make 'em like this anymore.

120 of the artist's fantasy images
This highly recommended introduction covering the life of the artist Richard Power opens to a full-page color-embellished survey of 120 of the artist's fantasy images and contributions to the world of paperback illustrative art. An outstanding survey of images is created in an excellent keepsake edition for fans of science fiction and fantasy art.

Great artist, great book, great price!
Finally, a book dedicated solely to the works of the late Richard Powers... a dream come true. I was tired of always seeing him presented as one of many entries in books of sci-fi artists, shoved between others who were obviously not as talented as he. This is a true deal.... page after page of his beautiful/haunting/otherworldly art (yes, all 3 adjectives, and more, exist in each painting!). The reproductions are of a very high quality and clarity, some taking up 2 pages, allowing you to see the textures within the images. The text gives some very good insight on Powers' inspirations and personality, with some very funny stories. My only objections are - 1. There are a number of works produced in a fairly small format (4" x 4" or less) , and I would've gladly paid more if the publisher had enlarged them and expanded the page count. 2. No photos of Powers at work, just two self-portraits. 3. The text tends to ramble a bit, especially the first chapter, and I would have loved to see more art in place of it.

My son loves this book
I picked it up at the library because it has a cute cover, but what is inside is even better! It's a very cute book about a bear who tries to get rid of his shadow and the things he tries will fill the room with laughter. We also read Bear's Bargain and it's very good, too!

Very Cute, Holds Interest
My son loved this book! He even knew what would happen next and laughed and enjoyed seeing how silly bear was by trying to bury his own shadow. This was an excellent book, not too long, not too short and he will look forward to reading it by himself this year when he learns to read.

Fantastic book! Holds interest. Covers shadows for science.
Frank Asch has come to be one of my favorite children's authors

Endless entertainment
A wonderful collection of stories that you'll dip into over and over. Russell's social and political concerns (freedom, equality, social justice) are combined with clever, witty stories that use the SF genre without getting bogged down in science.

Wonderfully unique style Russell is a reading feast!
Russell has a wonderful and unique sense of humor. This is a priceless picture of one of the special authors of the "Golden Age". These stories will stay with you for many years.

Golden Age Classic SF Short Stories

A keeper
I am usually a bit hesitant to read teen books, being not a teen, and having read teen lit, as a teen. However, someone suggested this book for a lit circle I am running online, and I figured i'd give it a try.
What I found was that I was instantly drawn into Ellie's world. Some books just captivate you and this is one. I couldn't put it down! The whole art school thing is nicely balanced with her "romantic" life as the story flickers back and forth between the various things she does and spurts ahead in increments of time.
The author is very capable and uses words well to convey her ideas. I like that the author seems to be only about 25 years old. She is likely writing with a freshness and insight that can be directly linked to her experiences not so long ago as a young college student.
Nate turns out to be quite the gameplayer. But, hey, I think it would have been corny and very unrealistic to think that Ellie, as a naive freshman, changes this unruly, experienced man, he commits to her and they live happily ever after. So, big points for hitting the core reality of early college relationships!
Also, I was a bit perturbed at first when Sam had another girlfriend after Ellie sort of became interested. Then, I came to the conclusion that it's a good thing, because she wasn't truly interested in him anyway.

Overall, a deep and somewhat profound read. As a 23 year old soon -to- be teacher I didn't relate to much more than the humanity of it all, and that was powerful enough to make it work!

I loved this book!
I usually only buy books that I really really love and this the best book I have read in a really long time! I really identified with Ellie, an art student with a lousy boyfriend. I felt like Hilary Frank wrote about MY freshman year at college. I highly recommend this story if you're an art student, a girl or had a crummy no-good boyfriend and didn't know how to deal with it!

A new orginal YA novel
Ellie Yelinsky is away from home for the first time in her life at art school in New England. She wants to concentrate on improving her art, all which show a grim out look on life, but before she can even start classes her usually slow and isolated life gets changed. She dances with the devil at a costume party, and makes out with him as well. She later learns the devil's name is Nate and as she gets to know him she has a hard time finding out if he's more of a devil or an Angel. Her father thinks the only way he can bond with her is to give her the things he enjoyed as a teenager, mostly meaning drugs. The classes Ellie starts are much different from she had ever expected. Her teacher only speaks in one tone, yell, and he has her focusing on things she doesn't think are important. But as it turns out her teacher may be the only one that can teach her about art, and maybe something more than that.

This is the only book that's ever inspired me to join a school club, art club that is. If your in the mood for an original YA novel that can be read by adults as well, this is for you. The author, Hillary Frank, writes in a very artistic manner. She doesn't tend to spell everything out for you but trusts the intelligence of the reader to figure some things out for themselves. The cast of characters manages to be original while realistic at the same time. Whether it's the loud and obnoxious art teacher, the shy stoner Sam, or the sometimes good, sometimes evil Nate. This is a great book for people that are fans of books such as Sloppy Firsts and Love and other Four Letter Words.

An eye-opener
This beautiful book is a lovely elegy to an artist who, sadly, we lost to AIDS earlier this year. Though the pages don't quite do justice to the art itself, you can see the pieces themselves, for a short time only, at Buffalo's Albright-Knox Museum through the spring of 2003. If you can't experience the art, this sumptuously produced book, using his farm in western New York as an inspiration, is nearly as good. My prediction is that Frank Moore's star will be in the ascendant for many years to come. Though he is no longer with us, his talent and joy of surprise will delight us for many years to come. And isn't that what art's about after all?

Filled with images of species
Full-page color photos of Frank Moore's paintings are especially strong in Between Life And Death: images of nature drawn from a folk art influence. From cameos of large insects and flowers and diminutive humans to folk art cards and a closeup of book titles, this is filled with images of species and interactions between objects and man.

Breatkthrough work
I consider myself fairly knowledgeable about the current art scene, but I was not familiar with Frank Moore's amazing work. I just came from DisneyWorld with my parents and happily discovered a show at the Orlando Art Museum of these beautiful and haunting images. Though on first glance these paintings and drawings seem direct and quite simple, it becomes obvious upon closer inspection that they were actually highly planned and worked out. The balance between science, medicine, and nature itself is beautifully maintained and the introduction of death metaphors seems quite appropriate given the state of our current health-care system. I am truly sorry to hear of the loss of this supremely gifted artist but glad to have stumbled upon this beautifully done work and book about it.

The Blue Willow
This is a book that has been in my mind since the first time I read it over 30 years ago. I have been trying to find a copy of for my own. I read it for the first time in grammer school. I have always felt sorry for the little girl in it. It always made me feel bad that all she felt she had in the world of any value was that plate. And I loved how proud she was of it.

A Must Have For Blue Willow Collectors
This is a wonderful book for the casual and serious collector of Blue Willow. The graphics are clear and the number of manufacturer marks listed makes for easy referencing.

I find this book to be very informative and helpful.
I was very glad to find this book. It has help me in so many way about buying and selling of plates. I was surpise ot find out how much some of the plates I had purchased were worth. I recommend this book very highly, the graphics are clear and colorful.
