A lot of important things to know
This is probably the most enlightening book I've ever read about urine. Quite honestly, I thought the bladder was just a bag for holding water--but this book taught me that it had all kinds of ties to society and other things. I always wondered why I could never pee if some guy was talking to me in the men's room, and--indirectly--this book explains that phenomenon. It also explains why women always have a harder time peeing in the forest if they think somebody is coming, though it doesn't say that directly. You have to extrapolate (sp) it. The book is really a must-read for anyone who likes to know the inner workings of his or her own system. My brother was a big bed-wetter as a child, and I had something of a healthy interest in his progress as well, since he slept on the top bunk. He has also read the book, and feels that this knowledge is--as they say--a kind of power. A wonderful book, with lucid descriptions--understandable to laymen (like me) and probably to other doctors. Buy this book!

Groove City
If you're interested in developing your groove and time, this is the book! I am a serious hobbyist and have dabbled in many books. There is no other book that I've found has built my ability to lay down a solid and interesting groove more than this masterpiece by Briggs. Fellow drummer and friend, Brian Anderson, and I talk about "drummer's brain;" This phenomenon occurs when a drummer listens to the subtle, solid grooves of the James Brown drummers, Jeff Porcaro, David Garibaldi, or Frank Briggs and thinks: "That's just 2 & 4 stuff; I could play that!" Yet when that drummer sits down to play to "Roseanna"...yeah...not quite the same.

The good news is that this book will gently lead you to develop a sweet groove. Briggs' systematic exercises, adding one element at a time, plus the accompanying CD make this an invaluable learning tool. If you are able to internalize just a quarter of this book, you will notice a marked improvement in your ability lay it down. Every wonder how to use ghost notes effectively? It's right here. No Joke! This is, by far, the most valuable and immediately effective drumming book I've purchased. Incidentally, if you get an opportunity to see Frank play, bring kleenex!

A must
"Portrait in Motion," essentially a diary kept by Arthur Ashe in 1973 and 1974, captures life on the pro tennis circuit better than any other book I've read. The tour has changed a lot since then, of course, but his description of week-to-week ups and downs (most weeks, of course, end with a loss) holds up well. There are plenty of flashes of Ashe's political consciousness as well, but his frank discussion of his agnosticism doesn't quite match the spirituality he describes in later books.

John
Most of what we know of the conducting of Arturo Toscanini comes from his recordings with the NBC Symphony, an orchestra formed by RCA for radio broadcasts and recordings from 1937-1954. As Frank points out in this excellent book, most of these recordings were made when Toscanini was in his 80's, and therefore perhaps not representative of his best work. This book tries to put these recordings in perspective by detailing and describing the NBC Broadcasts season by season. As Frank points out, some of Toscanini's best performances occured when the conductor was in front of an audience, where he was more relaxed. Frank gives a detailed season by season description of the NBC years, as well as complete program information. Also included is a complete (as possible) discography of both official and unoffical recordings. There is also a balanced discussion of the criticism and "hero worship" of the conductor in the intervening years. Other goodies: A complete list of NBC Symphony Personnel, a list of guest conductors and broadcasts, and a very interesting discussion about the "deconstructing" of the Toscanini image. After reading this book, I wanted to hear more of Toscanini's broadcast performances (and how about some of Guido Cantelli's broadcasts, also)!

Great for an introductory assembly book
The author is excellent at explaining confusing concepts and allows you to work at some examples at a resonable pace. Although the 370 is sort of out of date, a lot of the fudementals for assembly programming are discussed in this book.

A helpful book !
This book is focusing on saliva assessment especially on determination of corticosteroides, cortisol and cortisone.

A variety of sampling techniques are present and many testing methods, like R.I.A., are simply predesribed.

For detailed descriptions of these methods the necessary reference informations are given.

Normal or excess value levels of the corticosteroides are given, also their presence is well explained depending to the syndrom.

It is a useful reference book and starting point for researchers focusing on saliva.
