Tranquility
Wet Land Voices is truly a masterpiece. I believe the author to be a modern day Transcendentalist. Seldom is nature shown in such a natural and exquisite state as it is in this book. Viewing the beautiful pictures one can escape into a world of peace and tranquility.
Wet Land Voices
Captivating. In reviewing this book I felt like I was transported to the scene being depicted and reveled in the splendor and majesty of mother nature.

one of our favorite children's books!
When my girls were growing up, this was one of their most favorite books - they never tired of hearing it or reading it themselves when they were able. The story of the puppy trying to find its own identity plus the wonderful illustrations make for delightful reading.
Immense fun for all ages
I have recently discovered my childhood copies of Frank Muir's What-a-mess. Flipping through the pages I was amazed by the wit and the intricate detail in the pictures. Unlike numerous children stories What-a-Mess actually has an imaginative story line. As a child and an adult I have found it impossibly not to fall in love with the adventurous, adorable afghan puppy. Unfortunately What-a-Mess is now out of print but if you find a copy in a book shop it is a purchase you certainly won't regret. Due to the intricity of the pictures the book is suitable and holds interest to all ages.

Awesome book!
My 2 1/2 year old adores this book (and Lester's other books) She knows all the characters by heart, and identifies with several of them. The illustrations are fun, and the writing style is unique. Hats off to Lester!!!
Lester makes the most BEAUTIFULE children's books
Alison Lester would be one of the best children's author/illustrators about. All her books are wonderful! I particularly wanted to comment on this one as we used it to wean our 3 year old son off his dummy (pacificer). For in the book 'at 3, Clive gave away his dummy' - we read the book quite a few times (without making an issue of that particular bit), and lo and behold young son decides it's time to give up his dummy! Thanks Alison. Beautiful illustrations, fun text. Kids and adults all love Lester's work.

iT IS JUST LIKE ANY BOOK THAT DIXON WRITES: FANTASTIC
IT IS A GREAT MYSTERY, I HAVE THROUGHLY ENJOYED THIS BOOK I HAVE ALWAYS PICTURE MYSELF GOING ON THESE MYSTERIES WITH THEM
Really good
This book was funny. I got it 6 days ago. Here's the big question: IS FRANK HARDY A THIEF?? No way! But somebody's making it look as if he is. A really cool book on baseball statistics was stolen from the school library. Now it's made a sudden and surprising comeback-in Frank's backpack! Frank and Joe have a pretty good batting average when it comes to solving mysteries. But this one is no fun, because if Frank gets the blame, he'll miss his basketball team's first game of the season! The ending is funny when Wendy, the thief, and also the girl who has a crush on Joe, says she won't wear Love Is in the Air perfume anymore and Joe tells her not to have a crush on him until they were in high school. I think that's weird. How come in The Hardy Boys series she wasn't mentioned? I mean they are in high school! Everyone else was mentioned except for the bullies.

"The Happiest Who's Who Ever Written"
The above phrase was Reilly & Lee's advertising slogan for this book when it was published in the 1950's, and it's still true today. This is one of the best books ever written about Oz, and represents a herculean effort on Jack Snow's part. It contains listings describing nearly every character who appeared in the first 39 Oz books (from "Wizard" through "Hidden Valley") and stating on which page of which book each character first appeared. It also contains brief biographical sketches of all the authors and illustrators of the first 39 Oz books and short blurbs describing the plots of those books. It is illustrated with pictures taken from all of the books (except, if I remember correctly, "Wizard," since Reilly & Lee were not publishing that book at the time and did not have the rights to the Denslow illustrations). This book is simply a joy to browse through, especially since if one has not read all the books it covers it offers tantalizing hints about them...

Charming fabrication with real southwest flavor
Flavor of the region near Taos in the time of transition of Los Alamos from an isolated boys' school to a nuclear weapons lab. Charming, gripping mysticism and sociology of local Indian mentality. Very good reading. Fabrication based on history, the real story (The House at Otowi Bridge) is less romantic and less gripping but equally interesting. I read both with pleasure.
One of the best books I have ever read.
The Woman at Otowi Crossing is about a white woman in a mostly Indian and Hispanic community in northern New Mexico who experiences an epiphany which confounds her family and friends. It's hard to explain it in a few words here, but basically she experiences a sudden, shocking insight that all things in the universe are connected in one big whole.
When she tries to relate this experience to her boyfriend, her daughter, and the scientific community at Los Alamos, they have a hard time grasping what she's trying to express. As time goes by, however, she becomes a mythic figure to many people.
This book is written with a lot of detail about places and atmospheres, but doesn't get bogged down in it. The development of the atom bomb is a central metaphor relating directly to the main characters' lives. I could not put the book down.

Better Than Harry Potter In My Opinion
It's been a while since I last read a book in the Oz series but I just couldn't get enough of them as a child. I can't think of a more underrated series of books than those set in the wonderful land of Oz. There is so much more to Oz than the movie that we have all seen. Don't make a huge mistake and think that since you've seen the movie that you know what the books are about because I guarantee that you have no idea. These fantastic books are filled with adventure, danger and excitement and each unique book seems better than the last. This set is a great way to introduce yourself or your child to Oz. I promise you that once you start reading the Oz books, your bookshelf will soon be lined many, many more of Frank L. Baum's masterpieces. Harry Potter may be all the rage with kids these days but as someone who has read both the Harry Potter books and just about every Oz book there is I honestly believe that there is no doubt which series is better. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the Harry Potter books a great deal but they fail to compare to these absolutely delightful works of art.
The Oz Book Set - a great buy!
Each time I read the story of the little girl named Dorothy and her dog Toto being swept off to the land of oz, I fall in love. These books are great for younger readers because they are easy to understand and are even better for the adult who is young at heart. Through the words of L.Frank Baum I get transported into the wonderful land of oz, which is full of excitement, friendship and good times. Not only is this boxed set at a great price it is also a beautiful collection. The covers and drawings are all original and all truly reflect the amazing story it accompanies. If you haven't yet read an Oz book, you are missing out.
These books are timeless classics.

A necessary evil for every medical practice
I knew going into this book that we had to do something to prepare our practice for Y2K but thought that the majority of problems were isolated to our internal systems. After reading through this manual, my eyes were opened to the real problems that we face. Sure, our own computers and systems still need to be tested but it is our ability to respond to issues that develop with outside dependecies that will make the difference between success and failure next year. I never considered many of the ideas or solutions that are offered in this book. I am grateful for reading it and feel much more confident in our ability to move ahead. This is not a technical manual but rather a common sense business approach to an unavoidable problem.
The only book to address the real problem in the practice
My initial thought when I bought the book was this was going to be another 'big picture' view of the whole crisis. I was wrong, and glad I was. This is not a book, but rather a complete operational manual for getting to the heart of the solution, not the problem. It addresses areas that I never considered, such as the infra-structural and operational component of the practice. I really thought that since we had our computers Y2K ready, our practice was ready, too. This was far from the truth and I am grateful I found out the facts and the solutions before I put the whole issue to bed. I highly recommend this 'manual' for every medical practice. I learned two very important points that every practice should realize. First, no medical practice will be free of the possible problems and second, lack of proper preparation is the only disaster waiting to happen.
