The Apocalyptic Kid
Published in Paperback by The Sacred Beverage Press (01 August, 1998)
Authors: Erica Erdman, Randee Z. Griffin, Amelie Frank, and Matthew Niblock
Amazon base price: $10.00

So Good it's Spooky!
There's an eerie, somewhat supernatural tone to Erdman's writing, hidden beneath the tough veneer of hard, modernist imagery. "he/is gargoyled," she writes of Kevin Spacey in the imminently disturbing movie, "Seven," "has mastered/the architecture of faith-/the language of churches./As his locks are picked,/he prays:/'...through me,/enter into the City." Certainly, her lines capture the moment of tension and anticipation of the frightening film. I adore Erica Erdman, adore her startlingly original poetry and wicked sense of humor. I marvel at her commanding presence and captivating voice. But perhaps the most remarkable thing about her is illustrated by her poem "Epiphany For Amphibians Abandoned By Their God," where she writes, "we are left in shallows/with cracked wheat and whalebones/short of breath, scavenging/for scrapmetal and hearsay." Erdman has the ability to suggest that the world is other than we think it is, and from tales told by fireside, to the Blair Witch Project, THAT is the soul of horror.

Appealling photos, excellent recipies, new apple lore.
We just finished Frank Browning's Apple and Country Ham Risotto. Improbable as it seems, the flavors blend beautifully. My husband declared it the best risotto he's ever had--and risotto is his favorite food.

Superbly written
Edgar Tafel has truly written his Masterpiece! I was rivetted to the story and found it almost impossible to put down. I can only imagine what it was like to be an apprentice to a genius and Edgar has enlightened me. I very highly recommend this book for some enjoyed reading.

Superb collection.
An excellent, must-have collection for all who study Norris, this collection of early work has an informative introduction. It should be read in conjunction with McElrath's _Frank Norris and 'The Wave'_. Readers would appreciate an index (there isn't one) but the book is well worth the price just as it is.

The Architect
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (December, 1981)
Author: Meyer Levin
Amazon base price: $15.50
Used price: $1.95
Collectible price: $5.76

Biography
Mr. Levin knew Wright for over twenty years and had a considerable amount of first hand knowledge of the man and his personality as well as his history and background. This enabled him to write a compelling fictionalized, first hand account of an important part of Wright's life. It remains one of the truest pocitures of what Wright may have been like at this time.

Levin is one of the great literary figures of modern times bringing us Frankie & Johnnie, Complusion and the staging of the Diary of Anne Frank among many others.

Levin had just completed the proofs of The Architect when he died in Israel.

The Architecture of Frank Williams (Architecture Today)

Skylines and deadlines
Standing in the middle of Central Park's Sheep Meadow is the best place to appreciate some of Mr. William's works- at least 6 can be seen from this vantage point. Architecture has many styles; much like the Fashion industry. In a search for a more permanent vocabulary of design, Mr. Williams has combined a strong philosophical approach to urbanism and design with the pragmatic concerns of actually getting something built. His designs try to transcend the "fashions" of the day, hoping to serve the profits of Trumps, Zeckendorfs and other Princes of Finance, while paying respect to the quintessential New York eyries that his buildings thrust themselves into the company of. Less known than some of the darlings of the Architecture magazine paparazzi, his work has made a major statement on the New York skyline, and will be appreciated long after the trendy lobby boutiques have morphed dozens of times. -Bryan Winter AIA 11.1.97

Some stuff I knew already, but some really great study info!
I picked this book up with the intension of just skimming it but I read every page! I also recommended this book to several of my friends that are going back to college. The author gives you some really interesting and effective strategies for studying(I've tried them - and got 104% on the next test I took), writing papers, scheduling your time. It was really helpful and I would recommend it to any college student not only older ones!

Concert Band Arranging Made Clear
Frank Erickson has a rich history of writing music for concert band at all ability levels. Any one in the music education field knows of the wonderful pieces he composed. The book uses ilistrations of his own work to explain basic scoring concepts. The book is well arranged and easy to understand. If you combine this book with the CD of his music from Walking Frog Records, you have a good combination of resources for arranging for band.
