detailed, useful guide to Providence
There's nothing like a guide that gives you interesting info that other guides don't: helpful restaurant reviews and guides to ethnic (and non-ethnic) neighborhoods, parking info, funny comments about our favorite city and its mayor, and general how-to-survive-in-Providence tidbits. Especially good for prospective Brown students. The bible for Brown students regarding restaurants, transportation, and everything else. If you are going to Providence for anything (to live, to visit) buy this book. It;s fun just to read, too... a great way to procrastinate.

Excellent guide to small, up-and-coming city
This guidebook provides great restaurant reviews and hordes of information about the city. It may lack information about surrounding New England but for the short or long trip to Providence, this book will serve all of your needs. For the person interested in Brown University, this is ideal, providing info about student activities. With Providence coming out of its shell and this the only guidebook I could find, I highly recommend it.

Art Glass Details : Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House
Published in Spiral-bound by Prairie Designs of California (10 April, 2000)
Author: Dennis Casey
Amazon base price: $19.50
Average review score:

Hollyhocks are summer flowers, but of lasting memory...
just as Frank Lloyd Wright reflected on the environment in every situation, it was as though he were consulting a calendar, very much the Feng Shui master of homes and high-rises, and in the case of this home he uses two old concepts to great effect, making the situation one of effortless variabilty, or timeless change as we'd call it today. The only comparison I wuold make here is in the area of travel memoirs; compare Dennis Casey's aestethic views with Carleton Beals "Glass House", an auot-biographical imprint that visits Mexico, Spain, and Italy, etc.
and you get the general idea. There used to be a proverbial saying for Architecture students at Universities; accredited to 'Old Frosty' (whether correctly, we've yet to ascertain) "There is a 'WRIGHT' way... and then there is the 'Other Guys' way!" But by any yardstick-this book is great!

Casey nails down Hollyhock widows
I've been buying FLLW glass patterns from Dennis Casey for years. I own all his other books and this is his best yet! For those who follow Wright's designs and his display of truth through art, accuracy and explanation are very important. Dennis Casey was allowed to take his micrometer into the Hollyhock house. Reading this book is like walking through the house. Each step is beautifully detailed: "...with surrounding glass, is exciting in the true since of the word. It is as if you walked into a room with a full symphony orchestra playing."

Three quarters of the book is detailed drawings, which will satisfy even the most picayune artisan among us. I'll continue to stare at these pages until I understand.

The art of sexual lovemaking, a guide to a happier sex-love life for married couples

First-rate
I found this book much more useful than the previous guide I read on the subject, "The Art of Non-Sexual Lovemaking: A Guide to Platonic Relationships," by Ima Prude, which wasn't nearly as effective for me and my partner in helping us work through our sexual issues.

Superb
A fascinating eye-opener and a book which has transformed the way I view lovemaking. Quite frankly something needed to be done to resurrect the physical side of my marriage which has been blighted in the main by my PE, and Caprio's guide seemed the perfect start. As the author makes clear, lovemaking is an art - an art whose media are the body AND the mind, with the lover as artist. I have every confidence that reading this guide will lead to a happier love life for my wife me, and will help me move on from my frustratingly Pollockesque form of abstract expressionism.

More Voidship
Unlike Dune, this series has been out of print for some time. Shame! No one does it better than Herbert but Dune-Mania has left too much of his best work unread and unknown. Dune was a masterpiece, no question. But the series devolved into action novels - the work of creating his universe did not have to be re-done so the rest was just what happens next (and as Brian continues the series, what happened before). The Voidship series is different. Beginning with Destination: Void, which establishes the premise, each novel must reestablish the world in which it is set. Each set of characters has very new hurdles and new forms of intelligent life(? at least self-awareness) to deal with, each with their own world view. A good marketing bet would be to reintroduce these novels in paperback, capitalizing on the popularity of the Dune series. Let the new generation of sf readers discover the other worlds of Frank Herbert. This review refers to the series - Destination: Void, The Jesus Incident, The Lazarus Effect, and The Ascension Factor

Ascension Factor -- Frank Herbert's other sci-fi world
This is not a story of empire, such as in his great classic series, "Dune; but rather, Herbert and Ransom tell the story of an ill-fated interstellar colonial expedition gone horribly wrong. I am looking for a hard copy of this work because I believe that the general theme of the mega-hit Strategy software game, "Alpha Centauri" is inspired by some of the vicious alien creatures described in Herbert's story of the adaptation of humanity to a brutal alien world. Characterization is a lot deeper than most sci-fi, and the "run around the fortress" scene is something I've remembered for more than two decades since I last read the book. In our world of animated feature films, this would make an incredible movie.

Very good coverage of China
Professor Haley has edited an excellent compilation of chapters on Asian business -- I thought the chapters on China, its business environments, problems and opportunities, and industrial restructuring were particularly useful. A valuable addition to the genre.

Excellent and practical insights
Very good review of the major Asian economies and business concerns in these regions. Especially useful as businesses enter China after its WTO entry and ponder new relationships with post-crisis SE Asia.

Awesome
This was one of the best books I have read in the course of my dissertation work. I'd say it is a must read for anyone in the health care profession, as well as patients battling chronic symptoms. The book is a reminder that we need to remember the PERSON who is the patient.

He gave me the courage to risk hangin in there for others..
Arthur Frank doesn't deny any aspect of his experience, and through his demonstration of bare-bones honesty and self acceptance, I connected with myself, which is where the answers, if there are any, are to be found. I saw my own fear of cancer patients played out on these pages, and I recalled with anguish the number of times I disappeared from the lives of people I cared about because I was so afraid of their disease, their pain and the possibility that they'd die. ...and I also saw the ways in which I've protected myself from my own fear of cancer by wondering what it was in their psyches that caused them to be stricken by this terrible disease. ... and I saw how frightened I've been to be present in my own body. His honesty gave me the courage to change, and I'm incredibly grateful. Patti Harada, Tucson, AZ.

Excellent
Athletic Forever is an excellent health reference book because it doesn't simplify things, as so many new "fitness plans" do. Dr. Jobe & his colleagues simply present good factual information and excellent tips to help people maintain a healthy lifestyle. I found the back section of exercises particularly useful and authoritative.

A great book for all athletes and health professionals!
It was a great pleasure to read and learn from "Athletic Forever. The Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic Plan for Lifetime Fitness." Dr. Frank Jobe et al have taken on an interesting, contemporary subject in a most timely manner. The glowing forwards from Tommy Lasorda and Magic Johnson illustrate the tremndous respect that professional sports celebrities have for Dr. Jobe and "Athletic Forever." The text is formatted in a logical, concise manner and explores anatomy, injuries and treatment protocol without getting bogged down in needless detail. The KJ facts and closeups clearly add a new dimension to the body of knowlege regarding lifetime fitness. I especially enjoyed the insights with regards to diagnosing the cause of back pain. It is very refreshing to hear from the experts that high tech and costly imaging methods such as MRI's are in many cases unrelated to a patient's back pain. The section on stregthening and flexibility exercises is presented in a straight forward manner yet provides exceedingly valuable information in a refreshingly "low tech" appearance. Perhaps it is beyond the scope of the text, but it may have been useful to discuss 1 or 2 of the Kerlan-Jobe innovations in the field of sports medicine (For example, I would have been extremely interested in the story of Tommy John and the procedures and rehabilitation used in the "rebuilding of his pitcher's arm.") I would highly reccomend "Athletic Forever" to all athletes and health professionals!

Atlantis in Wisconsin: New Revelations About the Lost Sunken City

Enhanced with copious notes
Atlantis In Wisconsin by Frank Joseph is thoughtful and iconoclastic blend of metaphysics and archaeology, contemplating the possible former existence of the Atlantean civilization and a direct association with the area now known as the state of Wisconsin. From hints of Atlantean legend found in Native American folklore, to the mineralogical and archaeological mysteries hidden in Wisconsin's earth, Atlantis in Wisconsin offers an engaging and challenging hypothesis. Of particular note is a chronology described in a three page appendices called "A Rock Lake Time Line". Enhanced with copious notes, Atlantis In Wisconsin is provocative and thoroughly engaging reading. Also very highly recommended is Frank Joseph's earlier work iconoclastic work, Lost Pyramids Of Rock Lake: Wisconsin's Sunken Civilization.

Real Evidence
If you don't believe the real evidence presented in this book, then you don't have a logical and accepting mind.
