A book on equity derivatives for portfolio managers
The authors provide the reader an excellent overview of equity derivatives and how they can be integrated into portfolio management. A great book for the novice and as a reference book for the more experienced professional. I find the way the authors describe the investment process and the derivatives process particularly useful and insightful.
The book is also easy to read and can be easily digested by the reader.

Design and Application of Small Standardized Components Data Book 757

Supurb referenc for anyone interested in designing mechnisms
Learning how to design mechanisms with small mechanical drivecomponents has become easier with a new 784 page technical data bookpublished by Stock Drive Products, New Hyde Park, New York. The Book features a 51 page section on robotic component design which includes a detailed specification guide that compares 42 performance features for 147 industrial and teaching class robots.

The book, entitled "Design and Application of Small Standardized Components, Data Book 757 Volume 2" took three years to prepare and is considered comprehensive enough to be used as a textbook in machine design and related courses at the vocational-technical and higher educational levels. At a surprisingly low list price of under $8.00, the list of textbook adoption by colleges continues to grow. According to Bill Malone, Coordinator of Engineering Technology at Murray State College in Oklahoma the Data Book is "the most comprehensive text for mechanism design available anyhwhere".

This comprehensive technical guide was written and compiled by an editorial board comprising: Frank Buchsbaum, D.Eng.Sc., President of Stock Drive Products; Ferdinand Freudenstein, Professor of Mechanical Engineering, Columbia University; and Peter J. Thornton, P.E. Engineering Consultant.

Major sections in the book concern design procedure, selection and application data for designing with small gears, belt and chain drives, speed reducers, gear trains, ac motors, miniature dc motors, stepper motors, constant force springs, couplings, universal joints, shafts, bearings and vibration mounts. Highlighted in the text is a Designers Data Section which includes over 50 useful tables in the following classifications: mathematical formulas; conversion and units; properties of materials; useful shop data; and fasteners. Under Shop Data, for instance, related subjects such as the proper dimensions of shafting, bore diameters and hub fasteners are covered. Yet another section on Practical Design Hints illustrates how to design parts ! and minimize tooling costs, machining and assembly time. Areas covered include: turning and boring: drilling, milling, broaching, grinding and tapping. The Vibration an Shock Isolation Section includes a series of 21 practical design problems and their solutions.

The Data Book was written as a non-commercial design reference and is the second of a three part series. END

Desperate Men: The James Gang and the Wild Bunch: Revised and Enlarged

Excellent overview!
I first read Horan's 1958 book The Wild Bunch, which is now kind of difficult to find. This book includes some interesting facts which have been unearthed since the time of the first book. The photographs that are reproduced here really add to the book as well - the photos reproduced in the old paperback I had were grainy, but these are great. The book gives a good description of the facts, and I was surprised at how fast I finished it. Definitely of interest to those who love the stories of the Old West.

Mid Life vinettes of humor, depth and wisdom
This book was a quick and enjoyable read. It consists of several short essay-style chapters which recount the authors inner observations as she experiences mid life. Her writing is witty, crisp and poignant, and her style almost conversational. I finished the book in a day, and thirsted for more.

Wright's genius in all its amazing detail.
As a builder, I'm in awe at what this man did with materials. Why are we not all living in houses that inspire like these do? Have we forgotten that life lived fully is about beauty and adventure? Wright didn't. This is an exceptional book.

A clear point-by-point analysis of religious insanity
I constantly find myself taking this book down from the shelf to re-read particularly inspiring passages, such as the section on Jesus as a historical person - the evidence that he is a mythological character is overwhelming - and the section that takes on the ten commandments. Among other things, the ten commandments gave great comfort to those who owned slaves in America prior to the civil war - they go on and on about how to treat one's slaves, but never suggest that it is a bad idea for one person to own another. A remarkable book, and one that you will treasure.

A Dialogue of Comfort Against Tribulation
Published in Hardcover by Yale Univ Pr (December, 1977)
Authors: Thomas More and Frank Manley
Amazon base price: $75.00
Average review score:

One of More's Last Works
Among More's last works, "A Dialogue of Comfort Against Tribulation" is one of his most important. There are scholarly editions, from Yale and the University of Indiana Press, and there are popular editions from Everyman and Septer that are available. More wrote this book in the Tower of London as he awaited execution, but the style is not the raging virtupretive one he used when confuting Tyndale. There are "merry tales" such as the one about the German who was never satiate his own praise, in Book Three Chapter 10, but most of the book is given over to meditation on death. More has two characters, Anthony a young man, and Vincent, his aged Uncle. They are placed in Budapest and they are fearful of an impending invasion by the Turks. More's story has been read as thinly veiled alagory of his own situation. Anthony standing in for More's son-in-law William Roper, and Vincent for More himself. That may be putting it too simplistically, but it is a good starting point. Unlike More's best known work "Utopia," "A Dialogue of Comfort" was not written in Latin, but in English. I doubt one in a thousand readers have read More's classic in the original Latin, but everyone who reads English can read More's "Dialogue of Comfort" without the aid of translation. This is a spiritual book. In this book More asks where shall comfort come from. More answers his own question: "For God is and must be your comfort, and not I."

The Diary of Anne Frank (Cliffs Notes)

Most influential book in my life
This is the most influential book in my life. I am deeply touched by the talent of Anne. You couldn't guess that this diary was writen by a 13 years old girl. The life in the annex was well illustrated. Anne's mind is opened before us by this great diary. However, you couldn't say that this was not writen by a 13 years old girl. The thoughts are what a teenage girls should have. But, very little teenage or even adult can describ his/her feeling and thoughts in such detail. I feel deeply sorry for Anne's suffering. I felt so frighten when I was reading near the end of the diary. I don't want the diary stop there. Why was the annex was discovered??
