An insightful look at a problem thats on everyone's mind.
Though published a few years ago, this collection of articles provides readers with a basic understanding of the roots of terrorism, and how it has spread around the world. Excellent for students or anyone who wants to brush up on this topic. Skillfully edited, this book is very pertinent at this point in history.

Useful US Government Resource but Not Updated Since 1988
Originally published when George HW Bush was vice president, this U.S. Department of Defense publication is now quite dated - no information after 1988. The reference book breaks down groups by region (Middle East, Europe, etc.) and provides info on group size, leadership, origins, targets, and even a selected chronology of attacks (only by month and year). The volume covers many of the red, socialist, and liberation movements that subsequently dissolved after the Cold War but sadly lacks data on North American movements. For yearly updates in a similar format, see the State Department's _Patters of Global Terrorism_ published by the GPO and online every May.

A Texas Ranger
It should be of little wonder that A Texas Ranger, originally printed in 1899, has been through several reprints. This small book remains one of the most readable and compelling accounts of life on the rough and rugged Texas frontier among the famed Texas Rangers in the 1870's. With a foreword by the noted western writer J. Frank Dobie, and an introduction by current day historian Stephen L. Harding, author N.A. Jennings recounts with clarity and intensity his first-hand experiences as a young easterner who comes to Texas to find his fortune. What Jennings actually finds is adventure beyond description in a land that abounds in beauty and majesty while frought with danger and hardship. The author's depictions of real-life events along the Texas-Mexico border are told in first person and include his recollections of fights at Las Cuevas and run-ins with such outlaws as King Fisher, John Wesley Hardin, and Sam Bass. The reader, through the eyes of this talented writer, is offered a look into the action-packed old West. The book serves to accentuate the impact that the daring and hearty young Rangers had in ridding the frontier of Mexican raiders and the lawless riffraff that found its way to Texas in the mid-nineteenth century. While A Texas Ranger makes an interesting read, the book itself is not without controversy. Famed Texas historian Walter Prescott Webb characterized the book as one that "abounds in errors and misrepresentations." However, Jennings fully acknowledges that his book, written some twenty-five years after his experiences in Texas, is based largely upon his recollections of events at the time and is adequately footnoted throughout. From this reviewer's perspective, A Texas Ranger is an interesting and engaging story, one that most readers will have a difficult time in putting down.

Excellent Introductory Text
This book was required for the Physical Therapy course at my Chiropractic college. I found it easy to read and informative. One of its strongest points is the redundancy of information. Though some might not agree, the fact that the authors reintroduced the same information in different contexts throughout the book reinforced learning without constant backtracking.

An excellent text for the library of any helth professional interested in PT and a good primer for those who refer patients out.

A must read for VW enthusiasts and advertising students
The only book I'm aware of on the behind-the-scenes story of the classic Volkswagen ads that those of us who grew up in the 60's came to love. A special treat includes copies of many of the old VW ads. If you can read this book and not smile, you have no heart. . . .

Full of fascinating stories when two people are separated
Chapters alternate with each telling stories of their time of separation. It's an interesting technique that keeps you wanting to read more and ends far too quickly.

A Legend Writes About Legends ...
This is one of those books that is long overdue. I was just beginning in radio when I first met Tillman Franks. It was through this legendary bass-fiddle player, personal manager of super stars, songwriter and country music promoter ... all-in-one ... that I met most of those mentioned in this book. Tillman was not only "there when it happened" ... in many instances, he was responsible for many good things in country music "happening" in the first place! It was through Tillman that I first met Elvis. I would appear on several show with 'Old El'. It was also Tillman who introduced me to Johnny Horton, David Houston and so many others. Although I never met my idol, Hank Williams, Sr., Tillman Franks was also responsible for much of Hank's super stardom. This book, written in the easy, Louisiana speaking style of the author, not only takes you backstage with so many legends, it takes you to the dressing rooms! Yes, Tillman was there when it happened ... and I'm glad he was. You don't have to be a fan of country music to enjoy this very good book. It's musical history, told by a man who belongs in our Country Music Hall-of-Fame ... which will eventually "happen", of course.

A mixed collection, but a must-have for Stoppard fans
Let's face it; if you're looking at Volume Two of a collection, you're already a fan. This is a collection of short radio plays, mainly from early in Stoppard's career. Some are minor classics (Dominic Boot, Albert's Bridge) and others are forgettable. However, all of them show the true Stoppard spark, wit and intellect. Don't expect work of the same quality as the major plays, and you'll be happy.
