concise and readable
Borrowed from library, but was not enough. This book packs more real information in clear English, well organized and actually interesting to read. The price for a paperback is too much, but I can't do without it for a constant reference. B/W Pictures throughout. I have 34 history books on and around the 20th C. Yet I am buying this one for sure! Exerp (with picture) "Protest at Wounded Knee - white Americans were shocked in 1973 by pictures such as this one of the Indian occupation of the town of Wounded Knee, SD. This member of the Sioux tribe stands guard in a newly constructed bunker, a row of loaded rifles close at hand and an American flag contemptuously displayed upside down.." Exerp (picture) "Demonstrators lie down in front of the Pacific Gas and Electric building in San Francisco to protest the company's use of nuclear power...the antinuclear movement became the most widespred popular protest since the end of the war in Vietnam, and it illustrated the changing nature of dissident politics in the 1970s" Suggested readings at chapter endings. Full index. Medium size of book with stiff cover make it 'almost' hardback.

Interesting
This book was interesting and helpful. Not only does it contain many tips and strategies concerning top college admission, but it is funny and insightful too. I have read it over and over, not only because of its information, but because of its interesting segments detailing everything from your personality type to what admissions officers are actually seeing while they read your application.

America's Master Dam Builder: The Engineering Genius of Frank T. Crowe

Best dam book I ever read!
An interesting biography of a man dedicated to the agricultural independence of the West. I also enjoyed reading about the details of dam building coupled with the sacrifice of the workers to acomplish these magnificent feats of engineering. Reading about the life and hardships of the workers on Hoover Dam, during the Great Depression, was very educational. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a good biography or learn about the engineering challenges of dam building.

American Bull Terriers: A Legacy in Gameness

A Legacy In Gameness
I have read nearly all available literature on the American Pit Bull Terrier, as it is my favorite breed of choice. It not only has interesting data, facts, and photographs, but also includes a unique "bulldog" and "gameness" related short story. This used to be my personal favorite breed book...that is, until Mr. Rocca outdid himself with his last book "Fighting For Life". Both books are packed full of useful and interesting information about the American Bull Terrier. Unfortunately, Legacy In Gameness is out of print, and my copy is now truly a collector's find. I wouldn't part with it for any price. Both books are a MUST for any "bulldog" enthusiast interested in all aspects of the breed-- from the show ring to fantastic feats of strength and heroism from this much misunderstood breed.

The One and Only Dobie
Texas' most original historian and storyteller is the focus of this fine biography. Born in 1888, this giant of a man grew up in the bleak South Texas brush country that he would later immortalize in his many books. This volume chronicles his youth, his years at the University of Texas, and his devotion to his beloved subject matter. The photos of Dobie and his family are true treasures. Any Dobie collector will want this book.

unknown genius
this is the only book available in print so grab it while you can. His use of paint is up there with Sargent's work. This book has a great collection of work from Duveneck. It also has Duveneck's masterpiece, "The Cobbler's apprentice." Any true art lover or painting students cannot miss this book. No regrets, this book is worth every cent.

Great book for a different take on Folk and Outsider Art
This is an awesome book for the person interested in a fresh approach to the standard canon of traditional folk art. Although this features some of the old standbys like decoys and weathervanes, the true spirit of this book, and a reflection of the aesthetic sensibilities of its authors, Roger Ricco and Frank Maresca, is in the celebration of the variety of sculptural forms that occur in folk, outsider and self-taught art. The writing is a bit dry and a little academic, but the real reason to get this book is for the great photographs that come at you page after page. For any one interested in art and how it can occur in the most interesting ways, this is an incredible reference book that you must have. One other note: this book is a sort of continuation of an earlier book by Ricco/Maresca titled "American Primitive" that is, sadly, out-of-print.
