This is a strange little book which offers no insight into the way Marconi thought about the technical aspects of radio or about many of the interesting issues associated with the early history of the Marconi Company. There are several photographs of early radio equipment but there is no discussion of what functions the devices have. There are no circuit diagrams. There are many pictures of Marconi and various notables; none of these are of archival value. If the reader wishes to learn more about how Marconi lost his eye, or about his extensive sexual adventures I recommend this book. If however the reader is a serious student of the history of radio I suggest the two volumes by Hugh G.J.Aitken or the History of the Marconi Company are much more valuable and interesting.

I love the idea, but it falls short. My kids were bored by the whole book. Sadly. I really was hoping that it could be done. But if you want to tie your beliefs into the kids education the teach it separate from math. this book does not work. From a homeschooling Mom of eight.

A worthless book from the perspective of actually doing image reconstruction from projections.

I was expecting to get some up-to-date information about this interesting subject, but was disappointed as most of the information is "old hat". I suppose I have only myself to blame, as on second look, the web page where this book is reviewed in the "At a Glance" section clearly states, "Second Edition-1995". My last of this kind of mistake, as one does not need a virtual bookstore to order 5 year old books

Frank Smith was truly a man with ideas before his time! He fought and sacrificed to ensure everyone had the same rights that are guaranteed all under our Constitution. This was unheard of in the segregated South in the '50 and '60s. "Mississippi Liberal" is an excellent history of the Mississippi Delta and the environment that shaped the ideas and life of the Congressman from Mississippi--Frank E. Smith. A man who worked hard to make a difference for all races... and he did! A very comprehensive work by Dr. Dennis J. Mitchell--A superb job!

this book was a disappointment. it would have been much more interesting had it concentrated on cryptozoological aspects ot ocean mysteries...with most of the planet's ocean depths averaging two miles, much remains to be discovered and i think this book could have capitalized on this theme instead of including sensational and unbelievable accounts of ghost ships and the bermuda triangle, subjects that have been convincingly debunked for a long time. the middle chapters are worth the nine dollars you'll spend on this book but, while original, the material covered is sadly not studied in more depth and the lack of a bibliography makes it difficult to find further reading (especially on the giant jellyfish that could exist). the editing and grammar are second rate and the book reads at a second grade level. given the tantalizing information (i.e. the giant salmon of lake hanan in a chinese province)included, it's a shame that the editor doesn't feature photos of some of the purported creatures, such as the claim that clear pictures of the above-mentioned salmon were taken by field biologists. it was just enough to leave one frustrated and wondering from what issue of The Globe this story and probably most in this book were sourced from.

There are other places for the information in this book. I was disappointed and would recommend other references over this one. More detailed information in softener operation, RO operation, etc. would make this book a definite plus. I won't call it useless, but, it could be improved. Handbooks should provide detailed information in a ready format. On a few occassions, I found water treatment data in this book. But, not in any depth. I found myself going to vendor data which defeats the purpose of a handbook. Also, detailed worked out examples would be highly useful in the next edition. Needs improvement.

I found the dictionary to be very well organized and clear to read for high school students. But, there are numerous typographical and spelling errors as well as misuse of vocabulary. I urge the publishers to demand for higher quality in their publications.

This title has an excellent overview of the fundamental physical principles of NMR with many of the formulae and facts essential for understanding this topic at an introductory level. However, the applications section of this title is out of date. The book maybe useful for the organic and inorganic chemist interested in structure determination research. It is not aimed for the biomedical scientist interested in protein and enzyme or whole tissue analysis. References are adequately listed.
