How to Draw Horses and Ponies
Published in Paperback by Scholastic (December, 1986)
Author: Frank C. Smith
Amazon base price: $1.50
Used price: $2.50
Average review score:

Very detailed and certainly not plain.
This instructional manual of how to draw horses is presented in what appears to be an easy, almost 1-2-3 stepwise organized plan. However, it is confusing and, I think, offers too much as a "given" in the user's ability and drawing process.

I would not recommend using this guide.

How to Get Started With the 'Cello
Published in Paperback by Crystal Pub (May, 1994)
Author: Frank Leanza

Waste of Money
So general, it offered NO help what so ever, and at least once said to ask the instructor for help and to pay close attention to him. No help at all in beginning posture, positioning of instrument, or bow, or fingering.

NOT a Good Start
Frank Leanza's "How to Get Started With the Clarinet" is, in fact, precisely NOT what the title suggests. No fingering chart(!), shabby, garage-publishing-style photographs, few exercises, fewer instances of worthwhile advice for the beginner, and still FEWER points of interest for anyone who isn't quite literally just getting started with the clarinet.

Not a good choice.

I recommend instead Bruce Pearson's Comprehensive Band Method series, "Best in Class."

How to Get Started with the Tuba
This book is a complete waste of money. It isn't really a book. It is a cheap home-made copy of 26 pages of wasted space. Don't bother.

Not worth it's price
I have not learned anything from reading this book. I couldn't see why the Publisher considered this book for publication.

not a very helpful start, if you want to learn statistics
I am sorry if this review may happen to hurt the feelings of people concerned. But this book really is not helpful for someone looking to be introduced to statitics. Throughout the book, important concepts are introduced randomly, in disorganized way. The definitions are generally unclear and mathematics proofs hard to follow, the exercises excruciatingly boring. Is this statitics? No, this represents math teaching at its worst!

It's full of misinformation
As a member of the Kiowa Tribe I am aware of the fact that this book was published without the imput of the Kiowa Tribe or any of its leaders. Our tribal leaders reviewed the manuscript and made the proper corrections, but never submitted the corrections to the publisher therefore, this book went into publication full of errors about the Kiowa Tribe. I have read the published copy and the errors which should have been corrected are still shown in the finished book. I feel this book is not a good research source

Mande Potters & Leatherworkers: Art and Heritage in West Africa

Surprise
As a MENDE from West Africa, I was pleasantly surprised to find a book about my tribe.....until I realized that the author wrote MANDE instead of MENDE. I have tried in vain to find information on the MANDE tribe (as we are referred to by the author). I can't believe that in the author's quest, the name of the tribe is incorrect. I only hope it is my error!

The Mask

The Mask
I read "The Mask" in its newest published version under the title of "Alias Dr. Webber". The book had great descriptions of surgical technique. It was the best part. However, I found Dr. Webber, formerly Richard Petersen, to be an unlikeable character. I was apathetic to what happened to him, or why. I found the author insulting to women in his portrayal of female characters. I found the story line somewhat interesting, but unbelievable. If you love mystery books, you probably won't care for this one. It is far too predictable. If you don't read much, you'll probably like this book alright.

Measuring and Controlling Interest Rate and Credit Risk

Disappointing Value For Money
In the beginning of the previous decade,
not that many books on interest rate risk
were around. There was Das' "Swap Financing"
and Hull's "Options, Futures and other Derivative Securities",
so there was still room for valid contributions
servicing interest rate risk managers.

However, the content of the book is a meager subset
of those books. The author needs a phletora of pages
to explain simple notions such as duration and convexity,
without adding any useful insights.

In the chapter on Mortgage Backed Securities he
employs the same boring style giving the reader
the false impression that this is an accurate
description of the pricing of different MBS components.

The publicity pages are infuriating and do not
belong in a serious publication.

To summarize, if you are not capable of understanding
the first 6 chapters of Hull without Fabozzi's extensive
tables, mind boggling diagrams and paragraphs of blah blah,
you shouldn't be working with interest rate derivatives
in the first place.

And if you just want a description of fixed income products,
without or with limited pricing/hedging calculations, you
better go with Das or with Fabozzi's (ed.) "Handbook of Fixed
Income Securities". Don't waste...on this one.
